I have two boys that have been diagnosed with lyme. They both have had some amoxicillan, ceftin for 4-5 weeks and zithromax for 4 weeks..They seem to be doing really well. We have been on zithromax for 5 days then off for 5 days. They have been doing so good. Sleeping all night, no fevers...
We havent noticed anything strange... could they be cured? Could they be at a point where they can be off antibiotics? Their personality's are back to normal.. They have energy now. Seems as if their back to themselves.
There doctor has been treating them working with our LLMD. They are going to see our LLMD Jan 5th so we will see what he has to say.. I just have seen so much improvement with them..
Can children take antibiotics for a couple of months and be done?? Do kids have to go through the list of antibiotics like adults? Sorry with all the questions..
They will be done with there zithromax tomorrow. And there doctor is thinking that they are done with the antibiotics. And then they are going to see LLMD on Jan 5th. There doctor is going to call our LLMD and get his input so we will see.
Any thoughts send them my way! Thanks!

Hi,
Great to hear that the kids are doing so well. Thank goodness that you are catching us early.
My 2cents is better to be cautious. Absolutely see LLMD.
I am sure they will be fine, but those spirochetes are known to hide in tissue and come out later. Also they morph into cyst form which is resistant to abx other than flagyl or tinizadole. So you want to deal with this now, rather than later.
One more thing, have they been tested for co-infections? These, unfortunately are common.
Hope I don't sound negative. I do wish I had done more for mine at beginning.
You can learn a lot quickly here, especially on Newbie links.

My kids have not been ill for long. Last Feb I started to have visual problems, fevers/headaches. I lost function of my right arm/hand and then lost function in my legs. Everything started to happen all at once and of coarse I was diagnosed with everything but lyme. Then I did some research and was tested and was positive on my WB. And I see a LLMD and was diagnosed with it. I had positive western blot and herxed.
So then we started to research lyme and was finding out that my husband had alot of the symptoms. Found out my husband has it then we looked into the kids. We just found out they were positive in August. And that is when they both started treatment.
They both herxed with the medicine. Their symptoms were bad at first. My little one would fall all the time. Had trouble walking. Visual problems. They would have anger outbursts. Total personality change. Poor sleep habits the list is endless..
But this past month they have been doing GREAT! I can actually say they are back to themselves. Thanks for all the info..
I think I will have more answers when I go see there LLMD.

So glad to hear your children were diagnosed, treated, and seem to be getting back to normal.
You asked if children could be done after a couple months antibiotics. I agree with Char and Lymetoo - be cautious, even tho they appear to be well!!
With Lyme, it's always better to err on the side of caution rather than stop antibiotics too soon.
The spirochetes can change form, hide out, go dormant and make you think they are gone, but at some time in the future, they will cause the disease to flare up again. Then it is more complicated to deal with. This happened to my grandson.
The earlier the treatment, the better the results.....but ONLY IF treatment is long enough & strong enough. Generally speaking, LLMDs treat for 6-8 weeks after ALL symptoms are gone.
I don't know who your LLMD is, but I recommend that (s)he consult with the outstanding Lyme Pediatrician in New Haven, CT. You need to be sure treatment is long enough & strong enough!!! To know more about him, go to www.wildernetwork.org/LDpediatricfund.html
He has treated over 8,000 children so he is your best resource!! I'll be glad to send contact info by personal message. My grandson is one of his patients.
Considering the symptoms your children had, you need to be extra sure that treatment is adequate now. Keep in touch & let us know how all of you are doing. We care!
