So my husband and I packed up and moved 2,500 miles to be near my Lyme doctor. We left home, friends and family that we loved dearly.
we truly believe that our doc here in Co has a good chance of getting me well...this has been a 10 or 12 year journey of battling my illness.
SO...we get here...and 10 days after moving in (the day after Christmas) we find out that I am pregnant!!! And we were trying to NOT get pregnant.
As happy as I want to be I'm also terrified. I miscarried early in my first pregnancy due to my Lyme. We had decided not to have biological children because of the chance of passing it on to them...and we have been very excited about adopting in the very near future.
God sure has a sense of humor.
We are being very faithful with medications (even though it means 4 abx shots a week) in the hopes that our child will not be born with this terrible disease.
I've been struggling with homesickness and sadness a lot lately. I miss home so much. three of my best girlfriends back in Boston are pregnant right now and I would love to be going through this with them. I know we are in the right place for my health, but it is difficult and lonely right now.
PLUS I'm having morning sickness and am feeling even worse than I was with just the Lyme! crazy, huh?
Have any of you had successful pregnancies while being treated for Lyme? What do I need to know in order to have the healthiest baby possible?

ps. I haven't announced my pregnancy yet on my regular website because of the chance that I could still loose this baby....so I'm changing my website to my pregnancy journal.

Naomi,
First of all, Congratulations!
I asked my LLMD once about the possibility of having children, and whether I would automatically pass Lyme to them in utero.
It is my understanding that there are not yet definitive answers and that even the best researchers disagree.... but my LLMD gave me a very, very encouraging response, in that:
1) since I had *already* been on treatment for Lyme the situation would be much more positive and
2) the abx they would choose to put me on during any pregnancy would be amoxycillin. It can keep the Lyme at bay and yet be tolerated by the baby.
My LLMD's response was overwhelmingly positive and hopeful.
Now, you may hear some different answers from different folks' LLMDs; I just think there are no certainties.
To my knowledge you've been on treatment for Lyme already -- that's good news! So (without my being a doctor) I would ask your LLMD about amoxycillin.
(In my case the relationship didn't work out in the end, so the question of my future role as a mother at that point became irrelevant, but I was glad to have the info).
Warmest good wishes making new friends in your new home. Boston's weather is really icky right now, and the cost of keeping one's home warm is outrageous around here (as well as the cost of living in general!)
You will have a new community soon.... and will be all the richer in your lives for having the "silver" of new friends and the "gold" of old friends (quoting the song).
Maybe there is a reason this happened just as you are now close to the LLMD you have confidence in.
Let's stay optimistic and hopeful -- and please do keep us posted!

PS
I meant to add that the words they used about amoxy were something like "gentle for the baby but still effective" or something like that.
I also got the idea I might be putting my own recovery on hold, but keeping things at bay... and keeping a baby safe that way.
So do ask about amoxy. I know you'll probably get a lot of differing responses, but I trust my LLMD -- there are just no clear answers w. this disease sometimes.
I will be so praying that there will be no miscarriage this time (and my sympathy on going through what you have.... from friends I know that one never forgets).
You hang in there and let us know how you're doing.
And, hey, I hear that people are friendlier out west than here in Beantown.
Not that I minimize the pain of leaving dear friends.
((((hugs))) and prayers coming your way
