Hey,

As I have posted about somewhat endlessly, we are getting a new piccline for my teen because she can't take orals with bad stomach.

Took 1 month break to clear up yeast and help get depression under control.

Has been OK...she got a virus and has been sick for 2wks which I have heard has taken a long time for folks with seemingly same virus to recover around here.

Insurance troubles just came up and are causing a delay. Will start IV abx next wk, which is about 6wks off.

She last 2 days is extremely exhausted, bad back pain, insomnia back.

Last night, she told me she feels she is losing her will to live. That sick. She is 14 and it seemed more accurate than depression, if that makes sense.

We tried orals for 3 days during this IV vacation and her stomach got all messed up. GB removed last yr and and is only recently enjoying decent stomach. I was starting to cut prilosec to every other day before we tried orals, which I regret in hindsight, but was trying to help get yeast down and she has been on it for a yr...

Anyway,
I am struggling whether to give some orals while we wait to get this pic rolling. Looks like it will take till next Thursday as insurance just gave out and we are shopping for abx to avoid the $1,200 a week our clinic is going to charge.

Have paid out of pocket before and have done IV abx for about $100 a day and she only infuses 4 days.

Is it worth it to put her through the stomach pain to try to slow the relapse?

Maybe low dose? Rx is for Dioxy 200mg day and Amox 1000 day divided.

Especially would like to hear from those of you with tummy problems.

I am very overwhelmed about getting through this wk!

Thanks,
char

Hey char

I am so sorry to hear you about your daughter. It must be really nerve racking.

Sounds like she could use an anti-dression drug.
Have you talked about this to your doctor. Because when she gets on IV < my experiences have been I was never more depressed in my whole life.

Iv can cross the blood brain barrior really well. And I was having some bad brain herx's,some of which where some dark and depressive thoughts. Never before in my life did I get these.

Not trying to scare you but maybe to perpare you that this may happen to her.

If you where to put her on any oral abx right now to hold her over my last choice as far as the tummie goes would be the doxy.

Doxy is known to be hard on the stoamch. I have been on just about every oral and doxy works the best but has been the hardest on my stomach.

JMPO: be careful of the low doses if she is used to higher. This lead me at one point in life to a doxy resistance.

I waited 3 years and added it again in higher doses and it's working again for me.

Hope this helps. This is just my personal experience and may not be applicable to your daughter

Take care and hope she is feeling better soon.

I'd get her on an antidepressant, Prilosec, and forget about oral abx. While she's depressed, I'd cater to her stomach and psyche.

Aleve helps my back and I take it every day but my pain is not severe.

Have you tried acidophilus, primadophilus or other things to help yeast? Candex and Candida Complex are two products that help. Doesn't yeast cause depression?

Dana and Vitch,

Thanks for your timely responses!

Dana, priceless to hear dioxy is one of worse on stomach. I can't tell from my or my son's experience as we have iron stomachs.

What abx oral was least upsetting for you?

She is taking depression meds. The IV herx is bad, but bearable for both she and I as at least we see improvement and it passes and seems to lessen as she adjusts to next abx in rotation.

Have started with an absolutely wonderful psychologist just 2wks ago. She "gets" chronic illness and is tremendous with teenagers.

Taking Theralac for yeast. Did 10day course of Diflucan...Will talk to LLMD about a maintanace dose.

Her diet is awful. Bad stomach and carbs seem to be easiest to digest. and ice cream -cold helps.

I have to do better. I am so tired with my lyme and she and my son wear me down on what they will eat unless I cook and serve all appetizingly.

Hard to force her to eat it if she says it is grossing her out. Pattern is to not each much during day unless I am all over it; then she goes crazy on carbs at night . I believe that is related to depression, and they help her get to sleep so it is vicious cycle.

My 12yr old is getting better on orals and making himself chicken nuggets constantly and enjoying the lack of supervision because I am so busy with daughter.

Could try to get depression meds adjusted this wk before pic restarted...Does this make sense?

Thank you for your suggestions and listening.

She got up and looks a little better today. Murphy's law for sure!

Char

Hi Char,
Dana and vitch have already said a lot of what I'd suggest. I do agree about the doxy, it's brutal on my stomach.

I pulled out that quote up top because that's just how I am. A lot of food is just too gross to eat. sometimes i even start eating something like a chicken breast and it gets too gross in the middle.

I also have a tendency to not eat until late in the day or eat few meals. I have learned that that only makes me feel worse. (I have a very hard time thinking up things to eat.)

I have also found if I wake up and eat right away and get more meals in so I don't get so over hungry and drop my blood sugar, food isn't gross and my stomach hurts less.

I'm not sure that makes any sense but too me. [Roll Eyes]

My suggestion would be to hold off on orals and focus on getting her to eat more.

Have her start off early in the day. (I have to force myself but it helps.) Just keep up the probiotics and let her eat whatever she wants just to get something in her.

I'm just starting to eat better this week. I have been living on pretzels and almonds, as fall back food, for a long time.

Also almond butter sandwiches have gotten me through a lot of times when I couldn't think of anything to eat. (I am an almond butter addict; there I said it. [Big Grin] )

I don't know if this helps at all but do hope she is doing a little better and things get better for all of you soon.

Hugs

Copy and paste the posts into a new thread, maybe?

Not sure if there's an easier or better way.
