Hi Never posted a message before Hope I don't offend anyone by being so sad about my dog. Her name is Maggie and I just found out today that the lyme disease has given her kidney failure. We might only have her a few months yet if that. She is not doing well. We have had her about 5 years we saved her from going to the pound when her other owners no longer wanted her. All she ever wanted is to be loved and able to give love in return. I never thought this was such a terrible disease. How foolish I was to think it was something you take a course of antibiotics and you were good as new. I will say a pray for all who suffer this disease. I feel like I am losing a member of my family. Thank you for having this web site I don't have anyone else to talk to about this.

I am so very sorry to know of Maggie's illness. I do understand your pain as I lost a beloved dog as well to Lyme a few years ago.

I'm a huge dog lover (ok, obsessed is more like it) and it breaks my heart to hear about any furkid suffering.
the past year I lost my two best friends, both retrievers, to different illnesses (one possibly caused or aggravated by lyme). They were both too young to go and it was the hardest thing I've ever gone through. So I truly feel your pain. please dont hesitate to contact me if you need someone to talk to.
You and Maggie are in my thoughts and prayers. I just wish there was something more I could do to help you both. I know it probably wont comfort you too much now, but it had helped me a bit to know that dogs don't fear death the way we do.
I dont know enough about her kidney condition, but is there a possibility she could pull through this? have you gotten a second opinion? maybe from a holistic vet as well? how old is she?
You were both blessed to find each other. She knows you rescued her from the pound and she knows you're doing everything you can for her now. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

i'm sorry you are going thru this.
i lost a dog last oct to something else-but i still have his brother and we are having a hard time-they are schaunzers and tend to have gi probs-so when i do abx tx on them we get into trouble
8 yrs ago i lost a dog to lyme...before they knew much about it in dogs-at least my vet didn't -i had rscued her from the track
anyway-what i want to say here is hard. i don't know if you have lyme or understand how painful it can be. i know the pain well. it saddens me to see so many people who don't want to lose their dogs put off the inevitable...and in the process the dog is in terrible pain in the end.
i've recently moved to southern maine and my new vet told me he was sure something was going on with labs and retrievers...like they have a gene that reacts with the borrelia or something-he said he has to put down 40 of these dogs a year for many years---mostly shows up as kidney failure
so it's just one more thing we're learning about this awful disease.

I'm so sorry! Just love her and hug her lots! I lost my dog to kidney failure and it quite possibly may have been Lyme.
That was way before I was diagnosed with it so we didn't know. He lived a full life and was such a GREAT pet.
I feel your pain.

My heart goes out to you, Maggie and your family. My guy's 11 now and has had health problems all his life. Still, I know he has loved his dog-life...as Maggie surely has, too.
The unconditional love we receive from these dogs is incomparable.
Please don't beat yourself up for underestimating Lyme disease, Hannah. What you've believed is what we have all been taught by the media and by groups like the CDC.
I thought the same thing, until I had firsthand experience wtih this devestating and often debilitating illness.
Cherish whatever time you've got left with Maggie; in the meantime, I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
