Just checking in with good news -- my family is safe. We live just 8 miles north of Iowa City and we spent a few hours under the steps of our basement. I think 21 tornados touched down in Iowa City and surrounding areas last night.

Iowa City looks like a war zone. The campus of the U of I is a disaster and the students are just 3 weeks away from final exams. My son's place of employment was affected, but not as bad as those next door and right across the street. Cars are overturned, roofs peeled off, some buildings are mere piles of rubble and all of the trees in a park are simply gone, ripped right out of the ground.

Anyway, I just wanted to check in to say we're all okay.

[hi]

I am glad you are okay! I lived through a couple of Iowa tornados, total chaos! I have a nephew who works at the U of Iowa. It is really a mess there. Here is a good view of what happened.

Thanks Ann! Tornados are frightening, but we learn to live with them, don't we? I guess we don't have a choice, we just accept it as part of living in the midwest. The Press-Citizen URL you posted depicts the disaster well.

Tutu: Parishioners were in the church when the tornado hit and they all made it to the basement in time, no one was injured. It was a beautiful old church.

Sorry to hear about the hail damage to your cars. Just what you need, huh?

My youngest son (9) decided he wanted to be a storm chaser once he overcame his 'autism' . . . I'm not sure how he feels about his tentative career choice at the moment. [Eek!]

Biting Back,

You make sure you keep those tornadoes in Iowa and out of Illinois. We have had quite a few around here lately and are bracing for more tonight. Dandy lightning show last night. Glad you are safe. Hiker

Glad to know you and your family are O.k.! Mother nature can be brutal when she's cleaning house.

I can think of better reasons for hanging out under the basement stairs. [Big Grin] Stay safe .

Glad to know you guys are alright.

I am fortunate. Here in NJ I have never had a tornado.

Best wishes [Smile]
