I sent a letter to Oprah regarding WHY hasn't she done a show about Lyme? Two of her favorite authors (Amy Tan and Alice Walker) both struggle with it...
I sent her lots of info (a copy of the Washington Post article about Amy Tan, my letter that got published in New York Newsday about the Tan article, and Ed Lowe's article from 1999 's newsday about someone that was going thru what I was going through...).
OF course, it's too early to have heard from her people, but I was wondering if I should post my letter here OR/AND ask all of you to write, as well--- I don't know if she'll get ****ed or get amazed at the amount of people that suffer from this disease and are not taken seriously...
I am not on this site a lot--but I will try to check over the next few days to see everyone's opinion....
Thanks, all!
My best,
Cookie Rufino

Way to go! I had the same thought myself-why hasn't Oprah done a show on lyme? It's heart wrenching enough and sure needs attention. So I second that emotion-where do I sign? Count me in. Where do I write? I have plenty of time now that I am unemployed due to this lovely disease. Better respond quickly though before I lose my computer and the roof over our heads, too. I know I lost my mind a long time ago-actually I consider myself lucky-it only took me two years of frustrating referrals to various doctors to finally step outside the health network on my own to go to an LLMD and confirm what I already suspected. Let the treatment begin!!!! Fellow Lyme Warrior, Carol

We've tried this for many years now to no avail....BUT, I was thinking the other day that maybe if at least one person wrote to her EVERYDAY for the next 6 months, that MIGHT get her attention.
We could sign up for which day we're going to write and just blast them out everyday.
Someone posted here over a year ago that she HAS done a show on Lyme....but I don't know if that's true or not.

Oprah did a show on Lyme many years ago. I remember it. It was great...but another one needs to happen . This one aboout the misdiagnosis problems and everything else. It was a family who was diagnosed with who knows. They were all in wheelchairs and then came on the show...walking and MUCH better. She must do another one as too many people. Myself included got misdiagnosed with Fibro and then MS.

Also, to write to:
LARRY KING LIVE show; he puts on excellent medical health issues. I've done this, but NO ONE ANSWERS!
MONTEL WILLIAMS
BARBARA WALTERS - would be excellent for 1 or 2 of her specials.
I just went blank again, but when Larry King live is on, RITA Cosby, CNN?, is also on! She has constant coverage of the Aruba/USA HS student missing/dead coverage weekly since it occurred.
I'll for a email writing campaign to these shows!

I think if everyone that reads this would e-mail her for the next few weeks, then maybe something would happen... I'll figure out how to post my letter here in the next few days...
AND, by-the-way- someone recommended contacting Montell Williams--BAD IDEA!!! Years ago (when I was still trying to get dr's to realize that I DIDN'T have MS, bu LYME DISEASE!!!) he was on the View and said that all the folks that THINK they have LYME, really have MS!!!
Thanks all for the responses...Let's all try to send her e-mails and Let's hope she will answer the call and do another show...especially since now there's gonna be a new center at Columbia-Presbyterian!
Love you all!!!

Can we sign up to write Opray--then we could remind each other when it is our day/week so we don't forget--I think this is a good idea so she gets a drip, drip, drip...effect.
I'm strating to lose respect for Oprah--people who have been in her inner sanctum say she is a witch--but I guess you don't get to her leavel of success without stepping on the little people on your way up!
Give me a day and I will email...

"Hi Cookie", I have written Oprah, Montel, Dr. Phil and the list goes on, more then a couple of times, mentioned Amy Tan ,Alice Walker & others well know that have Lyme, the only one that ever responded was Montel saying they would consider the topic & would contact me if they do (about 1 yr.ago, still waiting)It could be that they just don't to ruffle any feathers. I don't know, but then again I'm sure they have staff (writers) that try to make sure ther butts are covered. I'll just keep trying, Lets all hang in there & keep fighting. Robin

I too have written to Oprah twice in the past year.... and have yet to receive a response.
We can only hope that she'll acknowledge us and keep the letters showering her inbox!!!
Why don't we each write one day next week? Let's start NOW!
I promise to send her another message by Monday.
We need to get the word out about TICKS RIGHT NOW!!!!
People get bitten by ticks during the summer time much more than during any other season of the year.

GEEZ!!! I knew Oprah would be hard, BUT NOT THIS HARD!!! I just sent an e-mail to another LD pal and said, now that Rosie O'Donnell is going to be on THe View, maybe SHE would talk to Barbara Walters about doing a show??? I remember how she had Christie Brinkley on her show one day, talking about having those birds (My Lyme Brain--forgot the name of them) that love to feast on ticks... Maybe we can try to find Rosie and get her to work on it for us...
AND the once a week writing to Oprah is the BEST IDEA THAT I HAVE SEEN!!!! Let's all e-mail her on this Monday---okayt???
All we can do is try!

I've also written Oprah about Lyme disease a couple of times in the past ... without any response.
But I did write her an email about bigamy and the fact that my ex-husband was married to another while married to me. That got the producers calling for days on end. I guess Lyme disease isn't that sexy!!! By the way, they never did do the show because I had lost contact with the "other" wife.
