I personally have Lyme diease and a few coinfections. Anyways. My question is this. A friend of a Friend has alot of symptoms that bounce off the diagnoses for Lyme diease. I suggested to the sister she go see someone with Lyme. But, they said "HOW COULD WE GET TICKS? WE LIVE IN YUMA, ARIZONA-OUT IN THE DESSERT!" So, is there any type of Tick that can do the same amount of damage or am I way off base here? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

[confused]

Go to pubmed and after the word for type in tick arizona

http://www.pubmed.com

Of special note -- click on the 2 abstracts below

#3 Evidence of tick-borne organisms in mule deer

#10 Occurrence of Ixodes pacificus in Arizona

Definitely sounds like tick-borne diseases are a possibility.

Also need to remember that your friend may have traveled to another state and gotten infected there.

there are mountains and forest in Arizona--does the friend ever go hiking? I am pretty sure I got it in NM--(but maybe UT). My dad grew up on the UT -AZ border and remembers seeing tons of ticks (but I don't think they were so nasty in 1940--but I am sure they are still there and a little more interesting now--that's way more north) but they are here in WEST and the SOUTHWEST.

sad to say

another thought, if she follows up on your advice make sure she DOES NOT get tested at the MAYO in Scottsdale. What a cruel expensive joke.

Does she ever travel?? If it's not from hiking in the forests there, then maybe from traveling.

Does she have pets? The dog or cat could have picked up ticks in the local park.....or on the street.

I saw ALL kinds of deer outside of Tucson last winter, Yuma's not that far away.

It may be desert, but I saw irrigation going on in the cultivated dessert yards closer to Phoenix.

I saw a coyote walking down the street in a Northwestern suburb of Phoenix.

I think the wildlife goes to town to eat and get water.
