what with the fatigue and all, i am not feeling very well. i have jury duty on friday and am going to ask for a note to get out of it.
i'm going to throw myself on my dirty, fat, chubbie little knees and beg for her mercy
if that doesn't work, i'm going to plead major PMS and lyme rages and irresponsible behavior. if that still doesn't work, i'll tell the judge to "kill them all and let God sort them out." then i'll casually mention that i am a card carrying member of NRA, married to an ex-marine force recon, and an extreme right winger.
my idols are rush limbaugh, general swartzkauf, barbara bush, and i watch fox news 24 hours a day. my son is a cop and my daughter is a lawyer. my father, grandfather, and great grand father were all military. i was raised as a base brat.
don't tell me anything cause i already know it and i believe in the death penalty for rapists, murderers, child abusers, pornos, pimps and wife beaters.
graduated from texas A&M, am an aggie and proud of it.
i don't give to any charity unless it involves fur, fin or feathers.....
i am a devoted southern baptist and follow rev. john hagee.....
i get violent if i don't eat and panic if i can't go the bathroom every 20 minutes!! have hearing problems (what did you say?) and cry at the slightest, or even implied, insult or affront.
anything i left out????
LOL.......well i've got to try, ya'll
sorry, i know this isn't medically related, but in my temporary lyme induced rage, it most certainly is............

I think jury duty would be an honor. I've never been able to serve [except as a teen in a special program].
I was called once and had to get a dr's note because I had been dxd with IC. That means that I WOULD have to go to the bathroom about every 20 minutes.

Some years ago in some famous court case or other, a potential juror showed up in her Star Trek uniform. The judge let her go....

I am SO with Tutu here.
I am always WATCHING jurors, but never get to BE one.
I have been called many times.
Until they ask my profession, after which I am SO gone.
(Paralegal, Criminal Defense trial attorney.)
Bye-bye.

I'm with TuTu on this. It is an honor to serve on a jury. Imagine if we weren't allowed to have juries.
I've done it in the past.....yeah, I had other things I would have liked to be doing.....but it wasn't bad and I have lifelong friends from the experience.

I can "identify".
I have had 2 back surgeries and virtually have no disc left between L4-5 which makes sitting for long periods of time without standing and walking around very painful for me - swelling happens. I have to "keep moving" and nerves sent me to the "little girls' room" too.
I sent them (court response to summons) a copy of my MRI and PRN pain meds (which I ONLY use when I'm absolutely brought to my knees, as I try not to give into the pain. I still will go out and try to weed my flower beds = ouch later.)
I never heard back from the courts.
I feel differently. I personally do not feel it is an "honor" to stand in judgement of another person. I believe that is for God, not me.
I wish we had a jury system like Great Britain...professional, knowledgeable (law-wise), intelligent, diverse, well-paid jurors, not randomly selected for every trial. I believe it would not only speed up the system and safe costs, but likely would result in faster and perhaps more "just" outcomes.
I LOVE the Star Trek costume idea...LOL.

Honor or not, I know I would not be able to physically handle being on a jury.
My auditory processing is not good, my memory is gone, and I become fatigued quickly and am easily distracted. I have documentation of all of this.
As long as the trial lasted no more than an hour I might be able to handle it, but that would have to include the time for deliberation. Fat chance!

thank you for your comments. i have to admit my sense of humour is "distorted" to say the least.
i have served on a jury duty previously that went 3 weeks and the case was dismissed. i was working at the time and it put a great strain on my work and private life, as i left at 7 and did not get home until 7 or even later in the evening. that and i f3elt afraid walking alone in the parking lots. one night it was so late we had policemen walk the women to their cars.
altho i make fun of trying to "get out" of jury duty, it is indeed an honor.
however, right now with the major fatigue that i feel, going to bed at 10 and sleeping until 11 the next day, severe headaches, and knees that lock up when i stand, feet that feel like i am walking on needles, blurry vision, and the urge to go pee every 20 minutes, i feel that this discomfort would encroach upon my ability to concentrate.
i have a bulging discs in my neck from c2-c-4 and a 2 mm bulge at L5-S1 and sciata in my right leg. i have torn cruciate (forgive spelling here) ligaments in my left knee.
so while i make light of this situation, i honestly feel that i would not make a juror worthy of passing judgment on someone else when all i wanted to do was be comfortable and go home. it would cause me to not listen and i'm, unfortunately, not one of those strong, honorable people who can put pain to the back of their mind and focus on what needs to be done.

Well, if you cannot get a doctor's note, show up and try to participate.
The courthouse should have a nurse on duty. If you're sick, ask to see the nurse.
They have so many people who try to "get out" of jury duty, that showing up even if you're sick will be in your favor. They can always send you home if they decide you're too ill.
Most of the time is spent sitting around, waiting. I doubt if I could even manage that.

Everyone who is able should serve. I was once on a 3 month trial. Someone needs to be on the jury because its the way our legal system works.
If people dont do their part then we will have to go to another system.
That being said the last time I was called I got a note from my gp saying I couldnt serve. This was when I was still running my small business but it was going downhill fast cuz of my physical and mental fatigue.
I had been complaining to my doc for sometime about my diminished mental capacity and I & he knew I didnt have any business deciding the fate of another human being.
