Thanks for the update.

Kidney stones are not always easily seen. Hubby has one that at one time we thought it was 9mm and then another imaging technique said it was 4mm and then the doc couldn't even see it.

A year later we now know that the herbal things I did apparently caused it to break in two and he has 2 stones that are each 4mm. I stopped the herbs when the doc said he should be able to pass the 4mm stone but probably need to resume them as obviously the stones are still there.

Generally kidney stones only hurt when they are moving unless they are blocking the flow.

The newest info says that kidney stones are usually caused by nanobacteria. Hubby tested positive for that. Tried the recommended treatment (doxycycline and a proprietary amino acid supplement) but at the time he was having G.I. problems and did not continue with the treatment.

Lithotripsy is the recommended treatment for kidney stones. Hubby had that done in 1997 and his health has never been the same since. It has been one thing after another. So, even though surgery does not sound fun it may actually be the better option, in my opinion.

Trails -- so sorry your trip was cut short. Hoping for a speedy recovery.

Here's feeling a little blue for you, Trails. But thanks for the update Lymemomtoo, I came to the board tonight to see if people knew our pal needed some cheering on.
Trails has been in touch with me and if she's in for extended stay, I'll toodle on up (with some driving help from my spousal-unit-on-vacation - yay!) and drive her nuts with silly hiking stories. [Smile]

Trails, you got my number so let's figure out a way to keep each other smilin' eh?
Hugs all round,
thanks, everyone, for being so loving towards each other. As time goes on and many continue to struggle, well, it means a lot the care that people pass around. Just don't pass me no cooties *tee hee*

I'm really glad you wrote, Trails

Latest from Trails...she's doing good!

Surgery went really well.

She is the "least pukey" post op ever. They didnt find any kidney stone. They coudnt get the camera up very far---too much narrowing.

They put in a stent to drain the kidney and she says she ALREADY feels better, even though it could get uncomfortable soon.

The good news is she gets to continue on her planned trip!

(She's not giving up that trip, by golly.)

Hope we hear more good news from our Trailsey soon.

Michelle

HI EVERYONE!!
[hi]

let me tell ya that I wept as I read all your kind words. I am so friggin sensitive these days and i also am so appreciative of you time, energy and well wishes. It was so nice to read in the hospital after surgery!!!

No stone as my bud Michelley said. Looks like my original theory is holding out----I wish i didnt know my damn body so well sometimes.

Most likely endo, adhesions, fibrosis or the last surgery 6/5/06 caused the ureter to become too narrow to let much of anything pass thru. My kidney got pretty backed up but it wasnt like a stone--it was "chronic" which hurts a LOT less but is much more harmful as you dont know about it--all your blood work and chem panels are fine coz the other kidney works fine and you dont have much pain--just minor pain/fullness sensation.

Anyhow--STENTS STINK!!! It hurts darn it. Feels like just what it is--a plastic tube inserted into my ureter that goes between my kidney and urethra. fun fun. It hurts more than the swollen kidney, but now i know I aint hurting the kidney no more. So that is good.

Vancouver is a BEAUTIFUL city!!! OMG. you can touch the mmountains from the city, the bay and the islands and the NOT being USA---We need to find jobs here. It was sunny and cool yesterday and today is cloudy which is a welcome relief from the CA weather that poor melanie has been stuck in!! Mel---I am soooooo sorry to hear what you have been going thru. I wish i was home only to offer you AC in the hotter than hell valley.

We will continue further north and I will kayak but much less than originally expected. oh well. I am sort of amazed at how well both my partner and i are taking all this. Everyone has been wide eyed when we tell them, yeah, we are on vacation now--just a short stent surgery stint in seattle but nothing that wont ruin the trip. Having dealt with lyme for 16 years now has really taight us some lessons. We lymies are stronger and smarter than we think.

Thanks again for all your emails and posts and thoughts and prayers. They mean so much to me!!

My best to everyone,
Trails [Big Grin]

I'm glad to hear you're back on your way, trails, and that your kidney is safe but wish the pain wasn't so bad.

Take pictures of Vancouver, it sounds awesome. Adn you will get some kayaking in. I'm glad you are finally getting to go even if the trip was more challenging than expected. Ugh! I feel for you kiddo.

Have as much fun as possible and "you go girl!"

Hang in there and thank you for the nice message on my ketek post. I'll keep you posted (pardon the pun) on my progress so we can see what this stuff does.

Happy kayaking! Write more soon.

Hugs and stuff,

Trails, so HAPPY TO SEE YOUR NAME HERE! Glad you are recouping as well as can be.

I don't know my geology anymore ... is VanCouver near LAKE LOUISE up in Canada? If yes, please take the time to see it! My folks were on a bus trip to go there. USA had flooding going on all over, so bus driver took every county/gravel road he could to get out of Idaho I believe.

Bridges were washed out, etc. They'd turn around over & over. They got to Lake Louise at 4 am & had to LEAVE 7 AM; didn't get to enjoy any of the sights there due to their "scheduled" tour. Bettyg

So soory that the stint is painful...hopefully, it is a temporary measure?

My love to you and yours,

hi again everyone!!!!

I had such a freakin blast in canada I almost didnt come back! The sunshine coast is georgeous. Two ferry rides away up to our little cabin and then we spent several days on an island and only got one day of paddling in---and a few short stints of canoeing. I didnt see any deer or ticks, but amazing waters and sea life and mountians. (betty---i took 4 separate ferries and one was in horseshoe bay and it went north to Gibsons...awesome fjords there. nanaimo was also pretty cool--took a ferry from there to twassen)

biggest problemo was no shower for 6 days with only pit toilets too. not a pretty picture, especially with a stent. The stent hurts mostly in the car and in the canoe. So we tried to tay away from those things. and with the way we smelled we tayed away from almost everything and everyone -- [Big Grin]

I had hardly any lyme/co symptoms while i was on 5 days of cipro ---for the stent UTI prophylaxis. Now I have been off it for a few days and LOTS of lyme/bart stuff is creeping back in.

I am in Seattle this week and will have the stent removed on friday---then we need to do LOTS of following up and will see if I need further surgery or what can be done. Itis only a temp solution.... [Frown] I dont know what it takes to get this thing out but it aint gonna be pretty.

Looks like lots of folks here are in much need of TLC. My heart goes out to those of you who are struggling right now, I really can relate to your pain and sorrows. I wish there was some way I could take away your pain.

I hope to write more later,
you all take good care now,
trails

Trails,

Sounds wonderfully relaxing. Are you sure it was the Cipro that made you feel better?

I went to Costa Rica in early summer and felt fantastic the entire time. I only took a pain killer once, before I went kayaking to ensure my arms didn't give up.

I think it's because I was away from stress and all the toxins and pollutions of home. Nature is good [Smile]
