I don't post much,I was just diagnosed in May. I am on Ceftin and now the Ketek. I had a good response to it and just recently upped the dose to 800 mg. per day. My LLMD was encouraged by the response I have had: less fatigue and a clearer brain. However.....since the dose has been doubled I have been herxing big time. Lots of pain and confusion. So please excuse me if I don't make to much sense.
My LLMD is great and gave me lots of samples of the Ketek, all he had in fact and wrote me a script. Today I was pricing it...and average cost is $400.00 per month. I have checked with all the help sites and we do not qualify for anything. I also called the manufacturer and they do not have a help program for Ketek.
Any ideas? I also checked in Canada and they were cheaper, but still high.
This has me so depressed. I just feel like giving up. I think I may have to call my LLMD and see what I can switch to. But any help would be so gratefully appreciated. Thanks.
Mindy

Hi Mindy, Glad you posted this, or posted anything. Can you trade anything for a couple months of this abx SINCE it is doing so well for you?? Like have a garage sale?? Or something else you dont use so much?
It really sucks that they cant offer help with this type thing. I checked with south of the border once not too long ago and they wont have cheaper Ketek there till it goes generic.
I have 'seen' posts where you get meds from overseas entirely usually from southern asian countries and THAT is supposed to save some money. Cant attest to quality or reliability of delivery . I have heard of others that say thats the ONLY way they get stuff!! Anybody have ANY foreign links for Mindy to pursue??
Otherwise I think since you are so close to Canada, I wouldnt have any problems with saving some bucks and got it there. Every dollar saved is a dollar earned(Thats NOT an original line on my part)
Good luck, --just don--

Maybe your dr can "collect" more samples the next time the sales rep comes by. If he knows you desperately need it, he may save them for you.
You have no insurance at all??

Mindy, I hear you. I wish I could be of some help.
I'm on Ketek and also taking samples.
I'm also on Malarone and found out the PA program for that only gives 16 pills for the year.
It's cheaper than Ketek but sooner or later I will have to pay for both. Awfully close to the equivalent of my monthly income.
The funny, not very, thing is I chose Ketek patially because I was given samples and also because it was around half the price of Zithromax(even as a generic).
It is very discouraging to have your treatment dictated by ability to get meds. I know, boy do I know. Don't give up, there has to be a way to do this.
I would follow Lymetoo's advice and ask the doc's office to save the samples for you. Perhaps they'll be able to keep you in enough to keep you going and/or you might only have to fill part of the script to get you through.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to call my LLMD today and see what he suggests. I think if I cut back down to one a day, my samples would last longer, but the doc probably won't want me to do that.
I really hate that I have to do this, but hey $400.00 is a lot of money to me. I still have to eat and put gas in my car.
Thanks again.
