My son went into our local sports authority on Firday at 9:23 p.m. My son 16 (with lyme) went to walk to the fishing section to get the lure he needed for fishing in the morning. THe one thing that keeps his mind off the pain. The manager of the store approached my son and his 14 year old brother and said you punk *** kids need to get out of this store, we are closing! My son said I have 6 min and need to get one thing. He followed them and got 2 inches from my sons face and continued shouting and saying you are not buying anything and was swearing at my kids. My son got the item and left and he even followed them to his truck. The store closes at 9:30 and the guy was being a jerk. My son came home crying and so upset and scared at what had happened. I know with the lyme he is more emotional but this is ridiculus. I called coporate office today and the police on Friday. It seemed as if cooperate blew it off! I told them I know a lot of people and then thought I tell it on lyme net!

Thanks for listening and do not give them our business they do not deserve it!

Amy

Concerned,

If this was in the evening, it probably was a low level employee that was running the store. Go to the store in the daytime and ask to speak to the manager.

Make note of the day this happened, and name of the person if you have it and let fly to the real manager!

I wouldn't condemn the store/chain (not familiar with this store, here in the West) for what one person did....unless this manager disregards you also.

Good luck, everyone should be able to shop till the store closes!

The corporation has to be reponsible for the manager's behavior.

You need to send a letter to their corporate headquarters. If you don't get any apologetic reply or action from them-like firing this manager, then I will go along with you and boycott the store.

Keep us posted.

Manager , head manager, general manager, store dishwasher- it doesn't matter. What he did does constitute harrasment. I have a 13 year old son and if he was treated like that, I would go in swinging at someone. Although, I don't suggest that [Smile]

What did the police say? I will write them an email telling them I will never let my children go into their store and that I never will, because of what happened.. but I would need your name to do that if you dont mind?

The police said as long as he did not touch my son there was nothing that I could do on their part. I would love people to contact them and let them know this was uncalled for.

Your poor son. How upsetting that must of been.

I would write an editorial in your local newspaper for everyone to read.

I have never even heard of the store you called>
Sports Authority
To bad for your son if what he has told you is exactly what happened then the Store manager needs reprimanded.

Write the corperation head and explain how it went down and if NO reply call the Better Business Bureau.

Maybe the manager has lyme?
Or he's just having a bad day Or He's just a a*shole.

Either way this needs taken care of.

But make sure your son isnt fibbing kids have a way of putting blindfolds on parents but you should know him better than anyone.

My experience is that most corporate offices don't really care. It is so sad that customer service has gone downhill so much and that you can actually abuse customers without repercussion.

I have tackled this issue before with similiar circumstances and it is always the letter to the editor or a newspaper article that gets their attention.

Maybe involving a group that stands against bullying in the schools might help with bullying in the community. Again, get it in the paper even if you write the article.

How about discussing with an attorney? Sports Authority is a HUGE chain so if you keep complaining or have an attorney contact them they might just pay more attention to you.

Oh I have an idea. How about going to the store every evening 15 minutes before closing, for a week and staying until the exact closing time. Do you think the manager would yell at you? Maybe even take your kids again and see what he thinks then. Of course always remain polite if approached.

Your poor son! I hate to see good kids hurt by older people's awful assumptions and bad attitudes. Is he recovering from this okay?

It would be great if you have time to follow up on this, write the articles, letters, get the attorney, just to let your son know this is absolutely NOT okay, and that you value him enough to do everything you can after the fact to hold the victimizer responsible for his abuse.

But also, and I'm sure you're doing this, make sure your son knows YOU love him and trust him and value him, even if this jerk of a manager did not. And maybe make sure he knows how many other perfect strangers here on this board are outraged that he was disrespected and abused by this guy.

Keep us posted. What an awful thing to have happened.

Got a call from central office for sports authority and the district mananger said that it had been handled internally and it is company policy that they do not discuss it with their customers. So I said in other words you did nothing! He said we take this seriously and all we can do is appoligize.
I said unless I see that that store manager is gone then it was not handled! I will not shop there anymore and do not recommended it to anyone! They treat their customers like second class citizens!

Amy

Maybe Iam to soft hearted but what if there is something wrong with the guy that did this following your son around??? What if he has Lyme to??? We all know how this disease effects our thinking [loco] makes all crazy.

Iam not trying to bother you I just have seen this happen before not at this store but around. Time allways plays out the answer.

But if this guy is totally fine then he diserves a as* kickin.

Give us the name of the local newspaper..we can all send a letter concerning this store...also...how do we contact the local paper, etc.....

Time for an onslaught.

Trout [Wink]

PS...They can't tell you what they did to the mgr due to privacy laws concerning employment...if they did...they'd be in HOT water.

Amy--I don't know much about the law, but I think this is wrong; If I'm not mistaken, swearing at another person and using agressive language constitutes as harassment--my dad has people do this at his work and it is in his legal rights to call the police and prosecute, but I don't know if that's different because it's a place that he owns. NOT that I think it should be different, but I'm just not sure--maybe check in to that? So sorry that happened.

IF your son is up to this--try putting a wire on him and taping his onslaught this time.

Then you can replay it for the police verbateum.

Can also send a copy for the head shed to HEAR how he treats the customers.

Then he is either arrested for third degree assault (thats what it really is) .

Or he is looking for a new job. prefferablely BOTH.

Inept managers like this need drummed out of the store world!!

If it IS a disease like lyme or other disorders he needs the shock treatment to get well on his own! TO know he needs help!! I mean!!
