My premiums were going to almost $1100 per month.(Just me) I just could not afford that much insurance. So I dont have it any more.

I saw once where you could join this ridiculous low priced group self insurance type . I think it was like 89 bucks or 129 bucks, something like that.

MY question is are these type groups for real?? Has anybody had ANY experience with them?? I will have to search around and find that name again!!And number!!

Any body ELSE have a reasonable priced insurance company one CAN afford?? I am not good at details like this. Cause I am --just don--

Don,

Several years ago, I was in your situation and investigated several of these insurance cos that were significantly below the cost of things like BCBS and Aetna.

The feedback I got from people who had been on these plans was that ever getting reimbursed for anything was almost impossible, making the insurance basically useless. There were all sorts of clauses and sub-clauses not initially evident.

I'd suggest either trying to downgrade policies with your current provider (thats what I did with BCBS). Or try to get under the umbrella of a larger organization.

For instance, here you can get insurance by joining the Chamber of Commerce or a small business association (if you
're self-employed).

Just some thoughts. It's an awful situation. My policy was set to increase about $300 a month before I downgraded.

I too am researching medical insurance policies. I am on medical leave, but my company is less than 20 so no COBRA.

If my SSD gets approved the first time, (doubtful as 80 percent of initial cases are denied and 50% of those should have been approved).

Then in another year I qualify for Medicare.

The important part, is TBRD are not considered pre-existing.

I have several agents who told me they could get me Blue Cross Blue Shield for around 3 c notes a month.

Waiting to read the policies, had a hurts recently, waiting for me poor humble brain to repair.

Which is happening, so by the end of this week I should be able to go over sdaid policies.

Will keep you abreast. I learned not to do anything during or after a hurts.

This last one was the worst... perhaps that is good news

Don...can you get a higher deductible on your policy?? That way, you would be covered in case something really bad happened.

[I know, I know...lyme is the worst.]

I agree that the cheaper policies are hard to collect on. That's what I've heard.

We had a family member several years ago who was able to join the chamber of commerce and purchase insurance through them. You did not have to have your own business to do this. They are able to get group rates because of the number of people who get their insurance through them. This was in NY - don't know if it is an option where you are.

Don,

What about looking into a "student" policy?

Regardless of age, I've heard this can work out. Usually, you can get one by enrolling in 3 or less classes for one semester. You can keep the policy forever, as long as you pay the premium.

Heard about someone doing this over the weekend - the premium dropped from $450 per month to $50, and it's a straight 80/20 traditional policy - no referrals necessary. They did it through State Farm.

I hope you find something reasonable soon.

$300 a month right for BCBS, and does that include RX MEDS? That would be fantastic. Also, please read carefully ALL the disability info I sent you in my newbie's links/advise when you joined us! YOU CAN WIN THE 1ST TIME, 1ST TRY! It didn't happen that way for me, but it could for YOU & OTHERS!

Good luck Don! I don't know if MINOUCAT'S DISABILITY LINKS in Treepatrol's newbie links would have something on that; she's got a lot of OTHER stuff in there besides disability info.
