I just thought I would share some nice news for a change.
My LLMD appt. was about 2 weeks ago. This afternoon I answered the phone and it was my doctors wife..who works at his practice..just calling to see if I was feeling okay on my new med and to chat.
We talked for about 25 minutes. Most of it wasn't even about lyme. It was nice to feel cared for. She even said hello to my 3 year old who was begging me to let her talk on the phone.
I just thought I would share this nice gesture that made me feel cared for.

There are some good docs out there! Perhaps we should start a thread about good deeds done by docs.
I'm glad you (and your daughter ) felt cared for. Knowing that your doctor cares about you as a person helps immensely in your healing.
My LLMD is wonderfuly generous in giving his time to patients over the phone. He even takes a day or two off during the week just to return phone calls! His faith in me and my ability to heal sustained me in the early dark hours.

I changed the topic and I hope others will share similar stories. There are so many times that we as lyme patients are treated poorly by the medical community. It's nice to be treated like a human being instead of a hypochondriac or someone with a mental illness.
I would love to read others good experiences.
Another thing my LLMD has done is refill my prescription and let me go another month before seeing him. He will just discuss things over the phone..free of charge. He does this when I call and tell him that I don't have enough money to travel and pay for the office visit. He waits until I call back the next month and they get me in within the week.

Ok, I'll share some stories. My doctor's (alternative LLMD) goodness and humbleness is only matchedd by his brillance.
There are many stories I could recount.
He has returned calls over the weekend to review my treatmend and give me much needed encouragement.
There was a time I have no income, I was fighting diability and barely had enough money for essentials. My LLMD did not charge me during this time. He does this for patients who may be in the midst of treatment but cannot afford to pay. He truly wants his patients to get well.
Last year, I was unable to eat for two weeks. My weight is on the low side to begin with. I called my LLMD regarding an nutritional IV, and casually mentioned that the IVs were helpful as could only eat a few crakers and fruit (wonderful feast for the yeast) due to extreme stomach pain.
He saw me the next day, started treatment and gave me recipies for high protein/fat soups that were cow dairy and wheat free (Nut-milk based vegetable soups). Here was this brillant man with multiple degrees, areas board certification and areas of expertise. But it was not beneath him to give explain to me how to make a good spinich nut based soup.
He meets patients where they are at the moment. At that moment I needed to find food I could eat to keep me above 90lbs. And he was happy to help me.

Kit and Serendipity, both of your stories brought tears to my eyes; so sweet and generous of both these MDs! God bless them both for helping you when you didn't have the money for treatment, etc., and the recipees! WOW.
So glad you changed the heading; I look forward to reading more TEAR-JERKER stories! Thanks for posting this UPPER in this DOWNLER lyme world. Bettyg

My LLMD does good deeds all the time. Recently, my husband was with me and he mentioned something about his eyes as they had been bothering him.
My dr quickly examined him without charging us. He spent several minutes listening to my husband ramble.[ ] He acted like he had all the time in the world to listen!
The next week I was in there to pick up some supplements, and my dr spoke to my husband at length about my husband's jobs as a musician.
I also spoke to his wife once for at least an hour. We were talking mostly about spiritual matters, and how she got Lyme disease herself.
editing to add: Prior to two weeks ago, my husband had only met my LLMD twice....and hadn't seen him in at least a yr. He is not a patient of my dr. {YET!}

I don't have an LLMD yet, but I have a cardiologist/surgeon who did a very good deed. I needed heart surgery but couldn't afford it, and he didn't charge me for the surgery. I still had to pay the hospital charges, but he didn't charge me anything to do the surgery. He has been my biggest supporter for my getting on disability too. I don't know what I would have done without him.

Before I was diagnosed with lyme disease, I was diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia. I ended up contacting, by phone, an iron disorders doctor in another state, to ask him if iron deficiency could cause all of my symptoms.
He called me back that day, and corresponded with me for several months until I figured out I had lyme disease. My iron deficiency is now corrected, and I know a lot about it because of his generosity.
I also have C. difficile along with lyme disease. A GI doctor in another state who specializes in C. diff has been in contact with me. She has been a lifesaver to me and an angel.
I sent her some goodies from Dean and Deluca as a thank you. Today I got a hand written note from her thanking me, and encouraging me to stay in touch for she will continue to help me get over my C. diff.
There are angels in this world. And some of them are doctors. People like the two doctors I've mentioned sure help to make up for all the doctors who are rude to us, huh?
God bless the good doctors! (And may the bad ones experience lyme disease for a week or two!)

Wow-a surgeon who didn't charge you and helped you get on disability. Surgeons spend so little time on paperwork let alone talking to patients (I'm generalizing). Have you seen their notes? A few lines in shorthand after a 14 hour transplant surgery. Very unusual surgeon
Hope these stories keep coming!
Now we just need a name for these non ducks

My Lyme doc is an amazing man. His staff is incredible. I have been having a terrible time with my stomach again and am down to 87 pds. When I called my lyme doc, even though his office was closed...he told me to get in my car and come right away. He examined me, gave me some meds and his staff gave me some fresh fruit, crackers and water. One receptionist even tried to give me her own turkey sandwich that she had brought to the office for lunch. She came out and talked me thru a nasuea "spell" and gave me cold towels to put on my forehead. When I got home, the phone rang and it was her. She wanted to make sure I was ok. She said she was going to pray for me. I also heard that the doctor himself prays for his patients every night. He asks me to get him updated on my condition (in between my monthly visits) via fax. That way I can tell him EVERYTHING (without forgeting). I always get a response by phone either from him or his staff. I have met some truly horrible doctors in the past 3 years. Unspeakable cruelty and lack of concern for your wellbeing. This doctor is a true man and servent of God and I feel blessed to have him in my life right now.
