Maybe someone can fill me in with some questions i have.
As far as i know, i first got the lyme back in May of this year. I thougt i had the flu, but after about 4-5 weeks i went in to the docs and got checked. Immediatley i was put on doxycycline and have been on it since.
Every 4 weeks i feel symptoms of exteme fatigue, rapid heartbeat, anxiety, twitching muscles, brain fog, weakness, and lack of sleep. After about a week i feel normal again except for tiredness in the afternoons. Since being treated i havent noticed a change in this pattern and im getting worried that things arent working. My doc keeps telling me to be paitient that it takes time to heal from this. Is he right or should i be feeling some results by now?

I have heard that if you catch the lyme right away you have a good chance of ridding it, is this true?

I also am taking alternative stuff from a practitioner, stuff like burbar, samento, cumanda.
I also have been off of sugar since mid April because i am on a food program for depression(which im pretty much depression free now, the program is incredible and free). Is there other stuff i should be doing to help myself? I dont excersise cause my job is pretty physically demanding so get plenty of excersise from that.

Tom

Question for you first Mr. Tom,
What 'amount' or should I say 'dosage' are you taking? Good thing your doc still has you ON abx and not the quickie fix!! now IS it strong enough?

Stay right after it, you are doing the right thing, get rid of the load NOW, never later!! You do have excellent prognosis based on time frames, now maybe rotate to a new drug, OR increase doasage till no doubt zone.

With continued issues then reonsider co-infections.
Good luck,
from

Your dose is on the low side. Generally 400 mg a day would be better, at least for most people. Some, who are very small in stature, or who are extremely sensitive to drugs might get by with less. What do you weigh? Wonder if your doc would consider increasing the dose? It is certainly good that he/she has kept you on meds longer, especially as you still are having symptoms.

Hi,

I just wanted to inform you about the herx theory.

This is what a herx is

When alot of lyme dies in you and your system cant clear it out fast enough you become what I consider toxic.

When this happens current symptoms can get worse, old symptoms can return, or new symptoms can emerge.

That week you feel pretty bad is probaly a herx. I know it is terrible to expereince but it means the lyme is dying. so even though you feel worse you are getting better.

I hope you was warned to be careful in the sunlight when you are taking the doxy. While on doxy you can get sunburns really easy.

Oh and your dr is right about being patient with the time it takes. The timeframe varies between people but lyme can be very difficult to treat.

Best wishes

Hi Tom,
Welcome to LymeNet.

Concerning the dose of Doxy per day -
Print "Diag Hints & Treatment Guidelines..." at www.ilads.org/burrascano_0905.html
It's 33 pages of excellent info about Lyme & co-infections; written by one of the best Lyme Literate Med Drs (LLMDs) in the country.

page 17: Antibiotic Choices & Doses
He recommends 200 mg Doxycycline 2 times a day with food.

Antibiotics (abx) kill good bacteria along with the bad bacteria.
You need to be sure to take high-quality acidophilus (probiotics) to replace the good bacteria in your system.

page 25: Supportive Therapy
Probiotics info important.
Take 2 with each meal.
If you're taking abx with meals, then take acidoph 2 hrs later with a snack.

Be sure to have at least 2 hours between acidophilus & abx - before & after - or it won't be able to work for you.

Drink lots of water to wash the toxins out of your body. Some say to put a squeeze of lemon juice in the water (acid balance).

Again, welcome to LymeNet.

If you don't feel better on a higher dosage in the next two months, you need to get checked for babesia....according to the symptoms above.
