My wife was awarded disability on Sept. 1 of this year! It was a 2 year fight but we finally won! Currently we wait to see how much in benefits we will receive.
Anyone else who is waiting for this keep your head up...It will come.
We wrote a letter to our Senators and they in turn contacted the judge on our behalf. A note was attached to the file saying "Congressional Interest" which sped up the process.

OOOOO- you had to wait two years- how naive I feel. I filed this summer-and was thinking any day now I would be hearing something- or getting a check in the mail. Maybe not.
Well anyway we are selling the house, for more reasons than just needing the money, and moving to a trailer to try to live within our means and afford treatment. Even rent would be out of our reach. Can anyone hear the violins playing ?
But congratulations to you-pitiful isn't it-celebrating disability payments. Good for you for perseverence.

Wow!!! Glad you got it but the wait could bancrupt people.
I wait till I am allmost dead then will apply.
Probably after some disaster caused by falling asleep driving to work.
Well lets hope I run over some SSDI duck refusing people dissability at that point.

whoopie! whoopie! I'm so happy for you; only 2 years to get vs. my 5 yrs. of hell!
Now 2 more years for medicare!
Get out your yearly SS earnings records SS sends out each year; it's very close to the $$ shown on there.
Did you represent yourself or have a LAWYER?
Yes, I contacted both the democrates & republicans in my state. It was democrate Sen. Tom Harkin's rep in Des Moines who gave me monthly reports by letter, email, or phone calls.
Rep. Tom Latham's office NEVER called, wrote, or emailed me but had the gull to say to me later, "I was kept informed every month by DDS"! But SHE NEVER passed any info along to me.
Needlesstosay, I will NOT be voting for Latham in Nov. HARKIN HAS MY VOTE AS USUAL.
Latham's opponent is Dem. Dr. Selden Spencer, neurologist/sleep apnea director! Should be interesting to see who wins.
Again, give your wife an extra hug & kiss for me. Bettyg

Kirstin has been doing better. More good days than bad but August was pretty much a lost month. most of it was spent in bed.
We had to do the bankruptcy thing last year...sold our house as well so we have been there.
We did have a lawyer which was a big help. They only get paid cause we won.
If we can offer any help to those going though it please let us know!

cgooge,
You offered to assist others. Please go to TREEPATROL'S NEWBIE LINKS and look for:
MINOUCAT'S DISABILITY info ... half way down in all the links ok.
Read what she has there, and then compose your own lessons learned, and add to her post on SSDI, disability insurance benefits to HELP OTHERS!
Thanks for offering! That's what helps ALL others coming after we went thru the process. Mine was 5 years of hell; glad yours was NOT! Bettyg

Congratulations! Just to give people some encouragement, my application for diabilty was nine months from application to award. I had good records, a neuropsych report that countered the SSDI psychiatrist, and it went through without needing appeal. It can happen.
