Hi everyone. I am waiting on my Igenex results to come back, but I am currenly taking Diflucan, Theralac, B-12 injections, and another shot called a "vaccine neutralization."
Anyway, I have been trying to do the yeast free/sugar free low carb diet, to help myself fight yeast and the lyme. I stayed on it for about 5 days, but then the weekend came, and I haven't been able to stick to it since then. My sugar cravings are through the roof. I was hoping some of you could help encourage me by telling me WHY I should be following this diet- and also by hearing your stories of how you improved on it.
I really appreciate all of your help!

Hi Jude,
Waiting for the Igenex results. The suspense is hard.
You are doing great with taking the diflucan. There are some protocols that treat lyme with diflucan. Don't think it could be hurting. You are setting yourself up to do better on abx, which is really good.
Be kind to yourself about "falling off the wagon"
The no-yeast diet is an incredible change, even paradigm shift from the American way.
I adhear to the diet overall.
The biggest help to me is to have my house stocked up with things that I CAN eat.
Foods from the East-Indian, Korean, Chinese, etc. are good if you avoid the bread or rice. Also Middle Eastern is good. Something tasty. I love the taste of sweet, but these other tastes are great. I especially go for "hot" and "spicy" which seems to kill off desire for sweets. Interestingly these cultures don't get into the array of deserts that we do...maybe they are more satisfied with all the veggies and all.
In a pinch,I often resort to yogurt and nuts. Separately. The yogurt is calming and the nuts fill me up.
I think I had a yeast problem even before lyme. My tummy feels so good on this diet. kind of like I was uncomfortable, but didn't percieve it since it was baseline.
Take Care. If you use the search function here, you will find lots of good info, suggestions, bemoanings and confessions regarding this diet!

I'll see if I can find "Groovy"....I understand he has a great story to motivate you!!
It's difficult, but to get "back on" gear yourself up for the next day. Get foods and snacks all lined up, pray, read, distract yourself...whatever it takes to get you back on the diet.
If you can follow the diet faithfully for several weeks, the cravings will go down TREMENDOUSLY! THEN you'll be finding it much easier. The trick is getting yourself to that point!
"Successful control and elminiation of a Candida Albicans overgrowth requires a multifaceted program as described below. Failure to follow ALL the steps simultaneously will result in slow progress and will lengthen healing time significantly. The program should be tailored to the individual and must balance the need to eliminate the Candida and deprive it of its food source while insuring proper nutrition for the individual."
Five Steps to Candida Elimination:
1. You must starve it into submission by eliminating its food source.
2. You must kill it with anti-fungal herbs and supplements. [e.g....garlic, onion, caprylic acid, Pau D'Arco capsules or tea, clove, grapefruit seed extract, olive leaf extract, oil of oregano, tea tree oil, Echinacea, Goldenseal, black walnut, MSM, barberry root, uva ursi, neem leaf, biotin]
3. You must reestablish the proper balance and quantity of probiotic bacteria in the digestive tract. [...multi-strain lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus capsules with FOS should be taken between meals to maximize repopulation of the digestive tract by beneficial bacteria.]
4. You must reestablish proper levels of all B vitamins (yeast free) and utilize other immune enhancing supplements to boost immune system function. [e.g ... B complex vitamins (yeast free), biotin, beta 1-3 glucan, colostrum, maitake mushroom, vitamins A, C, E, zinc and selenium]
5. You must cleanse and heal the digestive tract to promote proper elimination of toxins and Candida and assimilation of nutrients. [e.g...chlorophyll, MSM, omega 3 fatty acids found in flax seed and salmon oils, GLA found in borage, evening primrose and black currant oils. Pantothenic acid, digestive enzymes between meals]

Two reasons to follow the diet:
1. Many people have a reduction in symptoms when they cut out sugars and reduce carbs
2. Once on antibiotics, you risk a candida overgrowth because the antibiotics kill the natural flora in your system. Symptoms of a candida overgrowth can include pain, lethargy, fatigue, brain fog, itchiness, and many, many more.
Are you female? If so, then I'll pm you with my bad experience of chronic yeast.

click on candida diet & recipes on the left hand side.
another reason to keep the sugar & carb intake down is not only yeast issues but bb-(the lyme spirokete) thrives on sugar.
hang in there

Yes.. I agree.
It takes me about two weeks to have the horrible cravings stop. WHY?
I think the yeast beasts have tiny brains and they KNOW they are getting killed off.. it's an impending feeling of doom.
They do what any of us would in that circumstance.
Go after any and all partying they can! If they can't find sugar.. they increase the little signals they throw out.. and try to MAKE you feed them!
DON'T LET THE YEAST BEASTS WIN!
You CAN do it!!!
The first two weeks are the worst for the cravings. Then suddenly they calm down.

you are going through with draws. when I had an yeast free diet I got worse then better...Go to an Holestic Dr. they will help you. they gave me drops and I felt better sticking to the diet
yeast weakens the immune system as does sugar. Sugar FEEDS even cancer cells...so it is BAD
I have a sweet tooth and with lyme disease I was told to STOP... go Holestic a good doctor can help you
good luck

What LymeToo said about giving it some time, it gets easier... I find that definitely true.
I started following the yeast-free (or low-yeast) diet last spring, around March/April. At the same time, I also joined a Walking Program in which I'd wear a pedometer from sun-up to sun-down, with the aim to do 10,000+ steps a day.
With my low energy and endurance, it was tough at first; however, I found that with walking or any other form of exercise, my body would pursue a more healthier diet, than if I was sitting around and dreaming about junk cravings.
The number one thing I had to cut out was "Dr. Pepper" which I was quite addicted to drinking 3-5 glasses a day. After sticking with a strict diet of drinking lots of water and avoiding sugary and diet sodas for at least a couple of weeks, I find that sodas are no longer as taste-tempting as it used to be. My craving for it has gone down drastically.
Now and then, I will allow myself to a glass or can of soda once a week, but that's the limit, yet this craving to have one a week has even waned over time as well to the point where I hardly care if I get a soda some weeks or not.
Actually, I think walking or some form of exercise is a big key in helping you pursue and stick with this diet. Since the end of March to now with walking and a low-yeast diet, I have also lost 32 pounds from the excessive weight gain I got when lyme took over my body.
I feel much much better than I have a long time. So keep it up! It will get easier over time!
