Does anyone know if there is any relationship to Lyme Disease and Hypothyroidism? I have just been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and am wondering if it could be a consequence of Lyme? I did a search on the lyme site for thyroid problems but didn't come up with anything. Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated!!

My lyme doctor diagnosed me with hyppothyroidism even though my tests were normal, because my hair was falling out and I was so tired. I think it is common with people with Lyme. Hiker

Good question!

I have wondered that myself. Actually I think there are a few things that seem to be co-morbid, but in my dd's case it seems that the lyme makes some worse and brings on others.

My dd's bloodwork has been fine until recently. Although "normal" until recently, I have watched her numbers change, since being ill in January.

I would be interested in answers to this post also.

My lyme doc put me on thyroid meds because of fatigue, weight loss, etc. I have only been on them for a little over 6 wks.

I just was back to see him and he has me taking 2 a day now instead of 1.

Do I think it is related to lyme, I guess so. He seems to think so.

He told me a lot of people with lyme, even though their thyroid panel seems normal, have problems.

What do I know, I'll try anything

Hi Angie.

My tick took out my thyroid, in addition to a few other bodily casualties.

It's a real problem for lymies!

Here's some good threads on the subject.

You'll probably have better luck posting in "Medical" instead of Support for medical questions.

Welcome to LymeNet, by the way!
