I did this pre-Lyme to my brand new SUV. One of my kids got out and did not close the door when I decided to back out again to let my mother-in-law out of the car more easily.
When I heard the noise, I had no idea what it could be. I got out of the car and looked at in disbelief.
Just one of those days when you want to throw yourself on the floor and have a good cry!

Believe 3, What kind of a car and what door, make model and year?? Maybe you can find a non bent one at salvage yard. If its the same color, its a bonus,,,if different a little paint from a discount midnight body shop would do wonders. IF IT is an older car and its not worth spending too much on have them straighten it out best you can and live with it!! So you dont 'use' that door,,,the pioneers had it alot worse!!
At least count your blessings that 'noone' was under the wheels. Life is SOOOO much MORE improtant than paint and doors. cuz ib--just don--
PS...dont beat yourself up,,,thats why they call them 'accidents',,,remeber those???, before somebody HAS to be guilty of something every time something just 'happens' Old school I know---that statement makes me OLD

I knocked my mirror off my car a couple years ago backing out of a space in a parking garage. Looked right, but didn't look for a pole on the left.

Good thing I am not THAT bad!
Yo Ho- Believe... Not the brightest bulb on the tree now.. are we?
At least I can say one thing for sure...
You won't catch ME wrecking my back car door on the garage wall... cause my kid left the door open.
I am MUCH smarter than that!
Now nobody tell her this... but... I have a pick up truck... and it doesn't have back doors!
And I don't have a garage.. just a farm field with LOTS of wide open spaces!
And I have no little girls here either!
Otherwise.. if ANY of the 3 things were different... I am SURE I could relate to this situation!
Hey Believe... Just joshing with ya.
It's gonna be ok! Who knows.. you might even become fond of the dented up section... some day?
My kid rammed a horse trailor into the back of my new pick up truck years ago... messing it up for life... but every time I see that spot.. I think of him. But then that is the same kid who ran over his own foot with the back tire of his jeep... while he was in the drivers seat! Yep.. one sandwich short of a picnic that one is.
Do you have any friends who are handy with cars? Backyard mechanics? They can be a girl's dream come true sometimes.

Believe, I haven't told anybody this one. But you need to hear it because...
Apparently, I am dumber, lazier and lymier than, even I, thought possible.
A few years ago, with my last car I went to pull out of the garage and saw the hose was in the driveway.
I didn't feel like getting out to move it. So I cut the wheels on the way out to avoid it and ripped off my left mirror and the hydraulic right off the garage screen. It was completely idiotic.
I should probably bleach my hair blonde. Heck it'd hide the gray.
A friend of mine WB welded my mirror back mostly.
I finally got rid of that car and the evidence. Heh, now I just have a car that a giant cactus hit during one of the hurricanes and totally dented up the passenger door. The insurance did give me the money to fix it but need to use it for other stuff. To bad it is a newish car. I try never to look at the passenger door.
Sorry about the car door.

MY point exactly, A rippled door can work just fine for MAny years. IF you need the money for other things,,,dont spend so much fixin the car.
My other reaon for this IS if you make an insurance claim they rate you higher and you pay more. You also get surcharged and end up paying for damage any way. Insurance isnt what it used to be. If they even KNOW you might have a claim,,,they charge you more OR "CANCAL" you.
Same way with homeowners policys,,,they take every opportunity to cancel you now,,,even if your credit is dinged,,,they say there is more likely hood your going to torch your house,,,huh,,,go figure.
Save your insurance for catistrophic losses, pay somebody as little as possible to staighten as well as possible,,,and use it that way.
I have made doors work alot better(in the old days) with a 2X 4 stuck in places and bend the door back in shape,,,to latch and swing right. You would be surprised what body men really do to your cars,,,fixing them!!
Still havent heard make model and year,,,be surprised what some people run into and have access to 'here' these days. There is also aftermarket products a bunch cheaper.
Do you have a picture of damage?? would help a bunch just to see how it really is. IF the skin is just dimpled in you can pop it out from the back and you sometimes never know it was there. Kinked is a different story.
You want US to really help you or just hold your hand and cry with you?? I have seen every possible combo of garage doors and car dings.

Merrie,
Are you a single head of the household??
Or have a husband who is NOT handy so same as sorta?
I have a old friend who is body man by trade,,,all car dealers know him too, cause he can make small repairs cheaper than any one else around.
If neccessary ask a car dealer where you bought the car for the 'least' cost fixer in YOUR area.
Or ask around for other sources. Is it JUST the hinges?? Can they be replaced? Is the door bent on the outside skin(metal surface) Or,,, twisted beyond hope??
IF it just doesnt fit in the hole it is supposed to right try this first. Take care and dont damage further. Take a short 2X4 and put it between where the door hits (too soon) and press easy, then progressively harder(doesnt take soo much as you think it should)
You can lift a door and bend hinges a smidge too to make it fit better. Take your time, Rome wasnt built in a day.
Have your 'dad' help you if he is handy. Or if you use the poor little helpless 'money poor' girl 'look' to a backyard body man he would probably do the major adjustment with a board for VERY little. Like I said,,,wish I could see the door in a pic,,,have a friend who can shoot and send me an e-mail,,,would LOVE to help you out,,,for sure,,,thats what this site and friends are for.
What general area are you from? General NOT specific? You can PM me IF ya like!! Lots more of this goes on behind the scenes and no body knows any better(quick low cost manuvers)
Like I said before,,,will ANY of this pop out where it belongs from the inside?? PICS would be so cool. Take care and do whats best for YOU!!!--just don--
PS IF i had the right door it would be 'yours', VERY quickly. I am thinking a right rear door of a 4 door,,,right??

Don't feel bad... I backed a rental car into a house once... I didn't have the extra insurance and when I turned the car in, the agent didn't notice the huge dent.
The rental car company finally called after months and asked about the damage, to which I responded "what damage?".
I got off scott free...
The worst part of the whole thing was that I rented the car because I had totalled the one I was driving while in town. (my mom's)
I felt like a total putz.
I'm really not a horrible driver.

Want to hear something really stupid? I forgot to hand in a take-home final exam before the Registrar closed for the holidays.
I'll have to hand it in when they re-open later this week, and pray that the ethics committee takes pity on me. They could refuse to accept it.
I don't think I can blame the Lyme. I don't have Lyme fog. Just stress and rushing to buy holiday presents the day the office closed.

I just wanted to let you know you're not alone. During one of my relapses last spring, I was pulling out of my garage and cut the corner too close and ripped off part of the siding. The following week I was driving my husband's car and pulling INTO the garage and hit the siding...so now both bays are messed up!! I tried to tell my husband I shouldn't be driving!!
A few weeks after that I locked my keys in the car at work. I have a keypad on the door, but that wouldn't work so my husband had to come get me. Turns out that my battery was dead...but I think God knew I shouldn't be driving and zapped the battery for everyone's well-being!!
He believes me now when I say I don't think I should be driving today!

Years ago I wanted to get my car out of the drive,my husbands car was behind mine,it was manual trasmission and i didn,t know how to drive it.
He was sleeping and wouldn,t get up to move it. So I thought I would just put it in nuetral and roll it back some so I could get around.
The driveway was level so I stood up half in the car half out, with the door open and started pushing the car backward with my left foot.
Yep it started going fast and I was trying to brake with the clutch! Bent the driver door all the around! Oops! Try waking your husband to tell him that!
That was over twenty years ago, still feel dumb!

decades before lyme, i got into the back seat of a lincoln continental whose back door opened the opposite way than most cars. the driver took off before i could even grab the door handle. he raked the sides of two parked cars, damaging the door in the process, paniced and took off... i got out as soon as i could. i don't know what ever came of this.
i once unloaded a beach chair from the car, standing it against the back bumper, went into house for something i forgot, returned to the car, and backed out of the driveway... Posts: 2708 | Registered: Feb 2005

My kids mother, many years ago, when we used to be married to HER, walked out of the house, my car(brand spanking new) in full view on other side of road from driveway. She backs her car out of driveway all the way across the road and gets my driver door real good,,of course it was ALL my fault cause why in the h*ll would you have to look behind you just to back up???
All the way 'across' a road, more like mostly in the opposite ditch when the proper method would have been cranked right 90* after clearing the driveway,,,BUT I should have known,,,that would take looking again,,,she never did.
30 below zero, jump in cold car, late for work. Reverse, floor it,forward, floor it for 3/4 mile to the first stop sign. Never could convince her to warm it first OR not floor it. (THAT motor lasted but 25,000 miles) After buying her the car for a 'gift' I had to gift a motor overhaul to boot!! AND alot more thru the years!!!
Her theory of car repair is IF the wheels turned till she got where she was going, nothing needs fixed or looked at(no matter HOW bad it ran),,,when the wheels didnt turn,,,just don heard it!!! And when I walked in after a hard day,,,ALL I heard was, oh its "just don"

What a bummer!
Once when I went to a parking lot in NYC to park, I got out of the car and left car running,as you're supposed to to let the guy park it........only I left it running and locked the door before I shut it.....so car was running with keys locked inside!!! Talk about feeling stupid.
That was right at the beginning of my Lyme and I did a lot of stuff like that.

We just saw our daughter off for San Francisco. She drove to the airport with me minding the two little girls.
Just as she was about to disappear through the zapper security arch, we realized that she had the keys to my car. We shouted at her, she found them and threw them about 40 feet across the winding trail to the security check-in,where my husband caught them.
Thank heaven we realized it in time. Though now that I think of it, we do have a key hidden somewhere on that car. I will have to go check and see if it is still there.
Just an example of cooperative stupidity and last minute restitution. Ann - OH
