I posted this in response to the "troll alert" on the "seeking doctor" page. I thought it was probably relevant here, and should be accordingly posted:

Some Thoughts on Keeping "Our" Docs Safe, Etc.

It's a balance, like I always say. we have to be aware of what might be going on; that there might be some unfortunate souls sucked in by the corporate dictaorship who try to ...'expose'.. anything they consider, uh, ...'alternative'..., and make trouble for anyone who discovers that some "alternative" treatments are best.

But we're not going to win by hiding from them- without making it tremendously hard for too many people who are genuinely in trouble, seeking treatment.

I can't help it think that if it had been just a slight bit harder for me to find a lyme- literate doc, I very might not even be here today (seriously, big-time; I had babesia and don't have a spleen!).

The more they try to keep us sick and kill us, the more we have to get what's happening into the open. But this will probably generate some difficulty for a certain amount of time. But it has gotten to the point where the quagmire is so deep we need to start constructing bridges.

Also, freely talking about practitioners and types of treatmentis especially important in alternative- to any degree- medicine. For, all treatments, even in the LLMD category, are not equal, and are not all suited to the same patients.

Of course we need to be careful- there are lots of charlatans about. Most but not all, are in the government and 'regulatory' entities that have gotten out of control. But again- the more info we get out, the better, in many respects; scum does not do well under bright light. But I believe it's still good policy, in the present situation, to generally not directly post doctors' names, except in those case where the docs themselves have totally given the green light to do so.

It's just like everything, folks; it's a delicate balance. And to keep "it" from crashing down we have to move gingerly, but at the same time, quickly and decisively when necessary. All while being sick or recovering from being sick--- Who ever said life was ...'fair'...? But many of us know and I hope all of us can agree, that it's definitely worth it...

Best Wishes to everyone for a wonderful season-of-reNEWal!

DaveS

dave, i've read this several times, and unfortunately i'm not able to make sense to my neuro lyme mind what you are saying.

can you say this in the simpliest words please? thanks for your consideration; i do want to understand what you are saying and where you are coming from since I've taken a stand on trolls and also give out llmd names in need with enough info on them first to justify giving it out. [Big Grin]

I'm alluding to the problems that good lyme docs are facing aa a result of some of the new ada ...'guidelines'... ..., for one thing.

Also, I'm pointing out some undesirable consequences of our reluctance to discuss doc's treatments and names, which is due to this official persecution. and calling for the negation of 'reprimands' good docs might receive for prescribing antibiotics which definitely help one get over lyme. (this may prevent a doc from being availabe to some people at a cruciaL moment.)

In general, we are doing quite well. And it is still important to detect trolls, in order to protect llmds and other lyme-savvy practitioners, as well as to keep the info we present as clear and as helpful as possible. But we should never forget to consider certain very sick indiduals- we must enable them to get to llmds as quickly as possible!

Have they found out who any of these "trolls" are?-- are they agents of the yale ..'university' duck brigade or idsa, or jokers like that? Or have 'insurance'.. connections or some such thing? Or just a more common type of deranged individual? (kind of like certain unhappy computer nerds that surf around the net looking fore trouble, starting viruses, etc...)? It will never cease to amaze me how people could be so nasty as to pester a listserve of people battling lyme disease!

But the main thing is, get well as soon as possible, no matter what. I wish you all the luck in the world, in that. I hope you have a really great doc, and are able to get all the elements of treatment you need! I had a truly great doc for lyme. He is in Hermitage, PA- a couple hundred miles from here, but only 40 miles from my parents' house in Eastern Ohio.

I have to wonder if we're doing exactly what chuckie wants us to do by going after all these "trolls".

I've been accused of being a troll, more than once.

We, definitely have a reason to be paranoid but I wonder how many innocents have been accused or kicked off.

There is to be no "TROLL" name calling on LymeNet. If you suspect someone of being a troll, please EMAIL me. I would appreciate the memeber's name and the web address for the posts.

Thank you for your cooperation,
