Okay, no real ticks involved here - just his coloration.

I am fostering a super dog right now and I wanted to get the word out that he is available for adoption.

His name is Harpo and he is a 2-3 year old bluetick coonhound. He weighs about 75lbs. He is housebroken, crate trained and wonderful with other dogs, cats and children. He is neutered, up to date on all of his shots and he is on monthly heartworm preventive and Frontline. He walks nicely on the leash and we are working on basic obedience (sit, stay, etc.) - he is a quick learner! He is very sweet and cuddly and just wants to be loved.

He would love a home with a fenced yard but if you are pretty active and like to go for walks that would be ok with him too. Harpo is very laid back (a big couch potato) in the house but still has lots of energy to play, hike, etc.

You can see pictures here: http://tinyurl.com/2xlttv

He is available for adoption through the Maine Coonhound Rescue but he is being fostered in Massachusetts. Please pass the word along if you know of someone looking for a great family dog.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about him. Thanks!

oh man, I should not have opened this post!!! I have a little addiction problem with petfinder.com and rescuing dogs [Smile]

Harpo would have so much fun with the Weimaraners I'm taking care of right now! They would certainly get him in shape, chasing all the woodchucks and rabbits around here..

But...can't do it [Frown] These guys are sooo high energy and since i'm really sick, my boyfriend is the one who has to take them out running. (I give all the affection, cuddling on the couch) [Smile]

Harpo is adorable though and I'll say a prayer that he finds a caring home soon.

Hi SunRa,

I used to be peachsc but lymenet ate my information so I had to make a new name. You hitched a ride with us (me and my now husband) to CT a few years ago. I just wanted to say hi and I hope you are well.

Still in MA? It's coooold here. Yuck. Thanks for the kind words about Harpo. I get in trouble with petfinder too - probably why I have 5 cats and now 2 dogs!

If you know anyone looking for a great dog, please pass the message about Harpo along.

I hope that you are well and warm!

Hi!! nice to "see" you again! thanks for the well wishes.

how are you feeling?

unfortunately it's been a particularly rough year for me...desperately needing a breakthrough. In the meantime my dogs never cease to make me smile! we've since moved, but still in MA. how about you?

If I hear of someone looking for a dog, I'll be sure to mention Harpo. good luck with the adoption.

oh and congrats on your marriage!!! [Smile]

Aren't pets amazing? If not for the 5 cats and now 2 dogs, I don't know if I would have a reason to get out of bed on some mornings.

I am hanging in - some good days, some bad days. I still see Dr. P. - pulsing Mino and Diflucan now...Please let me know if you need any rec's for MD's in the Boston area. I have been lucky to put together quite a list of LL or lyme friendly MDs in most specialties.

We still live in the Boston area.

We currently have two adoption applications pending on Harpo - fingers crossed that one will be his forever home.

Keep in touch!

Reminds me of my old dog years and years ago,,,his name Old Blue(wonder why) he was a great hunting dog. The 'hugest' blue tick you ever saw.

He only have three good legs when I got him. He could still pull me around on the end of a leash, specially if he got a whiff of the animal he was seeking!!!

One time I was trying to run with him thru knee deep snow banks, I fell and he pulled me right across the top of the snow and I got up and ran with him on the other side.

I always had to keep him on a leash cause he would go to the other side of a creek and I didnt want to swim half frozen water.

I used to lose half of the critters cause would shoot them out of a tall tree, they would hit the ground running and be gone. After I got him,,they NEVER got away. He caught them in mid air.

Sounds like your dog isnt hunting trained, but come about it naturally most times. wish I was a better dog trainer. Thats one thing I am NOT!!!other than being--just don--

I love these dog stories!

Hope he gets a great home!

I have my hands full with 14 to 16 little and big sentient beings to take care of. Most were rescued animals.

There is something different about taking in an animal that has been rescued. It seems somehow they KNOW and are always so sweet!

Now, if I can only figure out how to be 20 years younger...I might keep up with all of them!

Good luck! [Smile]

I've whittled my herd down to 3 dogs and a chinchilla. I have to avoid Petsmart on pet adoption day and have to restrict my time on Petfinder.

Is there a 12 step group for this?

Good luck with placing your dog and bless you. [Big Grin]

My dad always taught me,,,"any more than one dog" and they go 'looking' for trouble and running wild.

Get three together and they start their natural instict to 'pack'. Then they start to roam.

Course thats out here in the wild blue yonder where people dont even tie up their dogs etc.

They all live far enough apart they seldom go 'visiting'

I've been following Harpo's story. I am so glad you found him a good home.

I, myself, have 7 dogs. They are all rescues one way or another.

I have one under 20lbs, but the rest are over 50lbs.

Most are mixed breed, but I have one chocolate brown lab.

Every time we find a dog, we say we are going to bring it to the shelter, but here they will hold it for 3 days and if not claimed, they are put to sleep.

I couldn't stand for that to happen to these poor babies, whose only fault was to get an owner who just didn't care.

Great news!!!!
