Hi Everyone, It's been a very long time (ok, 6 months)since I've posted here. I'm back to let you know that there sometimes is a light at the end of the tunnel and to never give up hope.
Briefly- Greg was 14(freshman in hs.) when he became ill. Took almost 2 years for him to be diagnosed with lyme (something we believed he had from the beginning!). Thanks to Dr. J he was treated for almost 2 years with every antibiotic and method possible!
During his 4 h.school years, he only attended 6 months. The rest of the time he was home tutored. Greg was doing - ok, but we could tell he needed something else done, some kind of "push" to bring him to feeling semi-normal.
Last June we saw a new dr. who did a ton of blood tests on Greg. Come to find out, Greg also has celiac disease. Within 2 weeks of going on a gluten free diet, I had a new son.
Greg is currently a freshman in college. Took 5 classes last semester and ended up with a 4.0. He can stay up until midnight and not have to spend the next week in bed. He is driving, he's no longer paranoid about going out in crowds, his anxiety level has dropped, he's like a new person.
No, he's not cured. His legs still ached 24/7. He has to be careful what he eats and he can't pull too many all nighters! He goes into Boston every other week for an IV treatment and is on about 8 suppliments to boost his immune system.
Insurance still isn't covering any of this, but it's worth every penny to see him this way.
I'm sorry this is so long. One year ago I couldn't even imagine Greg having any kind of normal life. I just want to give you hope that you never know what the next day will bring.
This board was my life-line, my lyme-bible!Thank you to all of you. Honestly, without you and your support and ideas, Greg would still be on the couch today.
Hugs to you all,
Kathy (aka mothergoose)

kathy, this is WONDERFUL NEWS for your son/parents!
please copy this also to the SUCCESS stories in the making at top of GENERAL! YOU CAN CONTINUE ADDING TO IT AS HE PROGRESSES!
every day folks come on here for HOPE ... the success stories provide that much needed support and telling how they did it.
i've been trying a new diet; 60-75% now; i'm trying but it's so hard to be limited to so many things especially BREAKFAST foods:
cereal, toast, omelets/eggs, pancakes, etc!
i wish him continued success and to you also. please continue updating as time and his health gets better!

Kathy,
That's the BEST news; I'm so glad to hear about all the progress Greg's made and about his transition out of this horrific disease into a fairly regular life.
That's really great, and I'm so glad you came here to post about it!

Hey there, Kathy!! Tell your son hello for all of us!! I'm so glad he's doing much better!!
I was dxd with celiac in July '06, but have had it a long time.
I think Lyme can easily cause this problem. We have several from the celiac.com board here now. They have recently found out they have Lyme.
Cheers and good luck!!

Subject: Help me reach my goal and raise Lyme awareness
As a survivor of Lyme, I made this site in an attempt to bring about Lyme disease awareness. Lyme disease and other associated tick-borne illnesses have been incorrectly published for many years, and have been down played significantly in the media and by many doctors.
Through this site, I hope to educate and raise the much needed awareness for people to be able to protect themselves. I would appreciate it if you would visit my site and sign the guestbook.
I look forward to reading your feedback and any advice you may have for me.
As you may know, May is Lyme Disease Awareness month. So, by the end of May, I hope to have 1500 signatures in the guestbook. Please be sure to sign it when visiting the site
. I would also appreciate it if you would pass this e-mail on to anyone you think would be interested. Thanks in advance, Devin *********************
i received this today. i checked out his site, and it's quite good for a beginner where he can continue adding things as time permits.
be sure to take the 10 Q/A test! see if you get them all right?
