Don't you think a pain scale of zero to ten is just so arbitrary?
I'm thinking about inventing a new one. Here goes:
A total train wreck Hit by at truck A fall down the stairs Tripping over the legos on the way to the bathroom in the dark
Am I missing any levels?

I'm not sure where "shish kabob" headaches would fall on this scale. Not as bad as a migraine but feels like a skewer going through your head.
Then there's "hit by a truck"- Mack truck or Toyota ?
"A fall down the stairs" -drunk or sober? (a variation of this is tripping over dog at the bottom of the stairs with laundry basket in your hands)
"tripping over legos on the way to the bathroom in the dark"- who feels the most pain-parent or child?
"a total train wreck"-well, totaled is totaled-can't get much worse than that. Unless you're the Little Red Engine that Could, so you keep on keepin' on like we do. I think I can I think I can I think I can-and Lymenet helps me BELIEVE.

Yeah. I sure wish the person with the invsibility cloak and the ice pick would stop following me around an picking random moments to stab me in random places.
I almost thought he/she had gone away when today he/she got me in the right ear drum.
But on the other hand, I sure wish I could get the accupuncturist to teach my husband how to put needles in my head. You wouldn't believe how good I felt on Friday.
I had treatment on Thursday -- she said she'd focus on the fatigue. By the evening I had enough energy to teach my class without trouble.
Friday morning I woke up and it was like waking up for the first time in over a week. I could think! I could start *and* finish something. It was amazing. Too bad it didn't last.

When Nurse K comes tomorrow and asks me what my pain level is I'll ask her "What body part?"
Reminds me of a song: "head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes a-n-d eyes and ears and _______ and nose, head, shoulders, knees and toes."
Somebody help me out here________? Maybe if I can find a pre-schooler they'll know.

Mouth, it's mouth, says my preschooler. But sure, add your own body part in the blank. That works.
My husband has to add some ideas to the sharp shooting pain scale:
A cold kick to the groin A poke in the eye with a sharp stick Fingers in a mouse trap...of course this one brings us back to the scale of one to ten

Okay, I'm going to the doc on Wed (hoping like hell he's a LLMD) and I'm taking this pain scale with me!
I'm going to add "Can't remember where I live" to the list in the #1 slot, because it's mildly painful (er, painfully embarrassing) to pull into your former home's new owners' driveway twice in two weeks (especially if they're outside!).
I'm brand spankin' new here and this was one of the first threads I read - it made me realize I'm just where I need to be now, among positive people laughing their way through pain. So thanks, Cobweb, and keep 'em coming!

I love it! I think I'll take this to my PT. He's always asking the scale questions. How bad has your pain been in the last week. What's the best you've been in the past week. How are you now.....
Just forget the evaluation and get on with it already!

Now that we've got the pain scale pretty much squared away, it sounds like we need a neuro scale. I'm not a doctor, but I'll give it a try:
Trying to introduce your best friend to your next door neighbor, and forgetting their names.
Asking somebody if they know where you can find the um, the um, the um...
Trying to put the car keys in the toaster for breakfast
Answering um-hm to any question, especially, "Can we watch TV and have starburst for dinner?"
Re-reading a really good book to find out what happens
Wondering if you've passed your highway exit, and which state you're in.
Walking into a room and having to walk back out to remember what you walked in for. Of course how many times you have to do this before retrieving the item brings us back to the scale of one to ten.

Trying to make phone calls with the TV remote.
AND VISA Versa or is that vica verca or vica versa-whatever-trying to change channels on the TV with your cell phone.
or having a digital thermometer in your mouth,and wandering around trying to figure out where that beeping noise is coming from? the kitchen timer? no, bedroom alarm clock? no, battery reminder in the smoke alarm? no, trash truck backing up? no. BEEP BEEP BEEP wherever you go. DUH
How can neuros be so smart and so stupid at the same time????
