I want to raise funds for Dr. J!!

Dr. J has been my son JC's doctor since 2004. JC is now 9 years old. My daughter Julie is also a patient and I also have lyme.

As many may recall, by age 6, JC was so impacted by undiagnosed Lyme (including by an infamous Duck who happens to be an instigator of the present legal action) that he suffered brain, heart and autoimmune damage and we nearly lost him.

Dr. J is our saint and has steadfastly supported our family through the storm. JC, though not completely well, has recovered enough to attend a school for children with special needs.

Lyme has physically, emotionally and financially devastated our family. We have personally, gratefully given so much to Dr. J's defense but we obviously have to think outside the box to generate more.

How can I go about mounting an internet fund raiser for Dr. J? I just started a website that allows visitors to order non-medical, really fun products online. Visitors can identify themselves as wanting proceeds to go to Dr. J's defense.

I don't want to break protocol and advertise. My plan would be to have 100% of the proceeds go to Dr. J's legal defense and all labor, time, etc. would be out of my pocket.

How can we proceed? I am not very technically-inclined but JC's dad can help with that part. I'm happy to have the process overseen by designated 3rd party.

Thanks for all your ideas in advance!!!

Peace and Blessings,
Andie, Julie & JC

Hi Andie, Julie, and JC,

Join the Walk Against Lyme Disease.

We will be walking all during the month of May in teams of 4. Since there are 3 of you, you will only need one more to make a team.

Having teams all over the country helps in your fundraising, because now it's not just you doing it, it is people everywhere! We will keep in touch by email.

I did this last year with my son. He walked to school each day -- 1 mile round trip. I walked my neighborhood most weekdays at lunchtime. Then on weekends, we would do longer walks together. It has been a great way to connect with my kid, and it is easy to do.

I'm now in Maine, but if I were in Weston (I used to be from Ridgefield), I'm sure I'd be walking in Devil's Den some of the time.

You may designate any Lyme cause as your recipient(s). I would suggest two: one for those who want to give to a 501 (C)(3) non-profit for tax deduction purposes, and one for undesignated gifts. Last year, I used LymeAid4Kids of the LDA for non-profit gifts, and Dr. J's Defense Fund for undesignated funds.

For more details on the Walk, check out the posting here in General, and send me a PM.

Take care,
Sharon

Thanks for the info about the walk, Sharon. That's a super idea! I will check out the thread re: same and follow up.

Our property borders Devil's Den and is a wonderland of wilderness creatures...and ticks!!! Yikes. We rarely spend time on the property anymore... [Frown]

But our road is traffic-free so it will be perfect. Thank you- we will definately participate in that!

So, you used to live in Ridgefield...small world! Just curious, is that where you got Lyme? It seems everybody here has it or knows someone with it.

Is the internet idea a complete non-starter? It would be a lot of work/schlepping on my part but I think it might help generate the significant dollars Dr. J needs to keep his legal team going.

I just keep thinking that if there were a win-win process going here it would increase participation. (Same theory as the portion of proceeds from Amazon.)

Maybe even Lymenet itself can come up with another on-site opportunity. I don't know...just trying to come up with ideas.

Thanks for your feedback!

Andie, Julie & JC

Wow, love that enthusiasm and enterprise! Someone also mentioned the posibility of a nap-a-thon as a fund-raising strategy if you are looking for more ideas.
