Hello, I'm new to the message board. I believe I have lyme disease. I'm guessing I've had it probably 13 years. I've been reading about the connection with autism. I have a 7 yr old high-functioning autistic child. I also have a 4 yr old who has been sick since birth (colic, reflux, frequent high fevers, heat sensitivity, cold sweats/clammy, slow growth, weak immune system, etc....)

So, when I read about the autism connection, I went straight to the chiropractor and had him muscle test me and the 3 kids. We were ALL testing positive for lyme and babesia. He has a rife machine, and put us all on that.

The next day, I had a blood test from Igenex for my 4 yr old. It came back today negative. Now, he had been taking penacillian for 3 weeks -about 3 weeks before the test. He had also had a steroid shot in January (croup -couldn't breath), and was treated on the rife machine the evening before the blood test. So, I know these things may have affected the test. I'm just so discouraged. I was hoping for the "proof" from the blood test, since most of my family and friends don't believe in the muscle testing.

So, is it okay to assume we all have lyme based on symptoms and the muscle testing??

I'm not looking to start a debate here. If you are someone who is VERY against chiropractors and muscle testing, please DO NOT respond to this post, or just send me an email or a PM. I'm not someone who trusts ONLY the medical community for my health.

Just wondering about the symptoms. I hate to ignore them and say "well, I guess we don't have it." Especially since we were all positive with the muscle testing.

I've had MANY MANY symptoms of lyme. In fact, I was SURE that I had lyme even before we went to the chiropractor -just by looking at the symptoms list.

so.........just need a little encouragement right now. We are going to a lyme/autism convention next week. I just hope I'm not going for no reason.

Hi Mary - just wondering who read your Igenex test? Was it someone familiar with interpreting the bands? My son is 4 and he got Lyme from me when I was pregnant with him.

My Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD) periodically does Igenex testing on him and the tests always say he's negative, but upon closer inspection of the bands, he is positive. A Lyme doctor knows how to read the bands properly.

My son, thankfully, has very few symptoms of Lyme and yet I still take no chances with him. As soon as he complains of leg weakness or joint pain he goes right back on antibiotics.

My oldest son had Down syndrome and autism, and I suspect my middle son is on the autistic spectrum.

I assumed I got Lyme disease when pregnant with my third son but my LLMD thinks I may have had it since I was a child. I did have a few symptoms growing up.

I developed thyroid disease in my teens which is very unusual and is often a sign of Lyme. The thyroid disease is the direct cause of my oldest son's Down syndrome. The Lyme may have contributed to his autism.

So, I don't believe you're going to the convention for no reason. I think it's important as you may get a lot of good answers/advice/shoulders to cry on.

My best to you.

Lymelady

Hi Mary, [hi]

My 7 year old grandson, born to my daughter who was being treated for Lyme during her pregnancy, is also high functioning autistic. If you're interested, my daughter's Lyme story is at:
http://www.angelfire.com/nj/lorib/

Tell me more about the chiropractor's "muscle test" for Lyme.

To answer your question(s) ... Lyme disease is a clinical diagnosis and if you or any of your children present with many of the symptoms of Lyme or other tick borne diseases, you/they are very likely to have Lyme or another of the many tick-borne diseases. There is a symptom checklist on this web site ... click on the On-line Library in the menu bar on the upper left of any LymeNet web page ... check it out!

Thanks and good luck,

Hi Mary and welcome,
My initial WB came up with one Lyme specific band. I began treatment based on that and a plethora of symptoms.

Interestingly, my tests became more positive with treatment. My body wasn't producing antibodies much on it's own.

I have had muscle testing for other things and found it helpful. I never thought to have anyone test me for Lyme or coinfections that way. I wonder if the chiro would muscle test me for Bart. I am curious how the question should/could be phrased or if he would need a little vial to do so.

Good luck, I bet the convention will be awesome.

welcome mary to the board where you'll be educated and supported as you/family go thru lyme/autism together!

i'm going to send you a PM, private message, with my 58 pages of newbie links, advise, LONG SYMPTOM LIST, tests by igenex, much more, and TREEPATROL'S newbie link with 1000 sites of GOOD INFO.

when you click on treepatrol's link, do a search for autism/lyme......expecially if you see the name ART DOUGHERTY who compiled outstanding links about all the 300 other illnesses mimicking lyme!!

art's taken down some of his stuff, but much remains, so use his labor of love project to help you/son/dr.

i don't remember putting any link about autism/lyme in unless it was recently and i have short-term memory due to my chronic lyme of 37.5 years! [Frown]

Actually, I have no idea how to read this test result. The Dr. only gave me a copy. He did not interpret it. We ended up with the full lyme panel by mistake ($450 -eekkk!!!), so there is a lot on there.

I'll try to post some of the results:

Interpretation of antibody titers:
less than 1 : 40 Negative

IGM result:
all negative (there are asteriks * in front of some of the numbers. Not sure what that means.)

IGG result:
**41 kDa + (I didn't see that before...I guess there was something positive on there.) everything else on that page is negative.

Multiplex B. Burgdorferi Sample: Whole Blood:
Genomic - negative
Plasmid - negative

Multiplex Sample: serum
genomic - negative
plasmid - negative

That's about it. There is no copy of the bands themselves. Maybe the Dr. has that??

More info about the "muscle testing". My chiropractor also does Kinesiology. He has hundreds of little viles with different bacteria, virus, yeast, etc. He puts a vile up to your shoulder and if he can push your arm down, then you are having an issue with it. If you stay strong, then you have no issue. He was able to detect 7 strains of candida for Peter, and he treated all of them on his rife machine. This is all pretty new to me, but the more I talk to him and research it, the more I'm believing that it really works. I know many people don't believe that it does work, but I've found that some of the things that he has done have been proven true by medical tests.

He did say that he's only had 1 patient that he's treated for lyme that actually tested positive for it on a blood test.

Hope that answers some questions about the chiropractor. I know they don't all do the muscle testing, and they don't all have a rife machine. It's hard to find someone who is really good at it. I feel that I'm fortunate to have found the one we see.
