Called my pedi office and doc will not test the kids because they have no symptoms. I explained how sick I have been, and that Lyme is no joke. I also told him there is no 30 day cure since I have been sick for 3 months and on abx for 6 weeks, 3 of which were IV.
This doc has been good to us and I have never asked for anything before. He said that my son had an ear infection when I was diagnosed and he was on Amoxi for 2 weeks so that would kill any Lyme anyway. ARRRGGHH!
He said even if the test is positive and they had no symptoms he would not treat them anyway. Pretty much dont go looking for problems.
How can this be? We live in an endemic state and an Endemic county. I am so disapointed. Now I have to worry. Maybe my ID doc will test them. I would never test them or poke them with needles and cause pain if I didnt think it was important. I told him this.
Why wait till they get sick? So they can suffer like me. I just want to cry. I am so scared for them. I will get through this (I hope) and it would devastate me to see them go through any of what I have gone through.
Why do I need permission anyway? I could go to my work right now ( I work at an animal hospital)personally draw my dogs blood and send it off for anything I want. What the hell. I swear when I am better I am goig to make a difference.
My dad also told me that a few years ago he had a bad bullseye rash on his leg. I told him needs to be tested and made him swear he would. He has a lot of aches and pains, but he had back surgery too.. I feel like we are under attack by ticks and disease. I am so anxious and freaked out. Posts: 3905 | From USA | Registered: May 2007

Dear Merry,
I had my children tested via Igenex and their pediatrician was not open
To any other discussion other than CDC negative.
They have both been diagnosed with Lyme by a LLMD.
You would be suprised at the myriad of symptoms that children exhibit that can be Lyme.
I posted an exhaustive list of Lyme symptoms for conginital and children with Lyme a while ago.
It was an eye opening experience for me.
Subtle things, like the pinna of the ear turning bright red for no reason.
This happens with my son all the time. However, not since starting on antibiotics.
Check a children's symptom list.
Then present this to your ID doctor. Have him sign for the tests.
My LLMD won't treat either unless you have symptoms.
Both of my children did.
Hugs,
Geneal

Pinna- never heard that word before-but one day I walked into my LLMD's office and she declared "your ears are bright pink!"
So now I have bright pink ears, a purple nose, red spots on my tummy, a white tongue-and the Blues! but I think I'm getting better.
Merrygirl-my daughter's pediatrician's mind is also closed to the possibility of lyme-even with a positive test from Igenex in hand and a long history of unexplained symptoms.(except in the context of lyme disease) She suggested I take her to a shrink.

Merrygirl,
I sadly have no advice for you, but wanted you to know that my heart is going out to you. Our job is to protect our children and when we feel like road blocks are put in our way, it makes us totally insane.
Do keep us posted on how it goes and I definitely can feel your pain. I'm so sorry.

Thanks everyone. I will pursue this further. I just dont want this to happen to anyone especially my kids.
My husband is a mail carrier now I am worried about him walking around in grass allday. I know the ticks are most likely in the taller grass and bushes, But still worried.
My animals are so much safer than my family. I want them to be safe but really something needs to be done.

I have had Lyme since I was 4. In remission when I was 20, but had 6 kids since then and no doctor would ever put me on antibiotics when I was pregnant.
And everytime one of my kids were born, they couldn't figure out why they had to be in the NICU for an infection they couldn't figure out. You'd think they would put two and two together.
I'm pretty sure 5 of my 6 kids have Lyme. The only one who doesn't is the one where I took antibiotics for three months for another reason other than Lyme. He's the healthy kid of the bunch.
I recently asked my kids doc to do the testing. He said without symptoms he wouldn't do it, and he said it can't be transmitted through pregnancy. I guess all those published reports by experts were wrong!
I haven't been able to find a LLMD myself in this area, so I can't go that road. I just don't want my kids to suffer like I am suffer, like I suffered growing up. It's horrible!

Gosh Allison. i am so sorry. It must be hard having it so long and having your kids get it too. I feel pretty sure that My kids were not infected while I was preg. I was also on a lot of abx during my son and my preterm labor, so I feel good about him being ok. I worry about my daughter.
She complains about headaches and her legs hurt, but she did grow 4.5 inches in one year. I dunno

Children are the gems of our world....we need to to do what we can for them.
The biggest problem with children is this.... They don't know what normal is..and will just accept most of the neuro symptoms as "just weird" or they will compensate until it is TOO late.
Be vigilant. Be strong...and live by my motto below, for you are the first and maybe the last hope of those young ones that you love SO much.
