This thread is not to disrespect any of the careers mentioned.
It is just a spoof.
But, I have noticed lately that I can not be a kindergarden teacher right now as I have a great deal of trouble coloring due to lyme disease.
The next day, I heard the President of our country had lyme disease.
I wondered. Perhaps being President of our Country is an occupation one can do with lyme.
No coloring involved and if there is you can delegate.
Just think about it. Someone else is doing the shopping, cooking, cleaning, balancing the budget was not an issue in the White House for years so that obstacle isn't even a consideration, the laundry is done by others....
in fact...delegation and lyme work really well.
So perhaps that is the type of career us lymies need to look for...
one where where we can do a lot of delegating and get paid for it.
Would I like to be President. No way.

After watching the senate hearings with all the "I don't recalls" and "I have no recollection" and "I don't know"
I think I'm well suited to be the US Attorney General. Failing that, a cabinet member of some prominence.
Plus I hear the health insurance is terrific.

OR, the ever popular:

I mean, after the arthritis in my wrist and neuropathy in my hand, my signature looks as bad as a doctor's...so I'm already one step ahead of the game!!
However, because I am a little too fatigued for the residency and the 18 hour shifts...I guess I'll settle for a Government job, too.

Yup. There was a news article recently (this is not a spoof) about President Bush, and how disappointed alot of Pentagon top folks were in him.
Seems that they had spent many long days working on a 1-page briefing report for Pres. Bush, to describe the situation in Iraq before a major press conference. They had worked hard to synopsize the issues down to just one page.
But when he spoke at the White House press conference, they all realized that he had not even read their important one-page summary!!
So, president seems like a good job for someone with lyme -- you get lots of vacation time, and someone else does all the housework.

Being a pet is probably a nice life too, you're fed and sheltered, but you have to speak dog or cat talk, which lacks of sophistication. I could be a frog pet too... not very sophisticated either!

I think I'd make a rippin' NIH researcher.
Here are the types of projects I'd get funded:
Sickness and stress--is there a correlation?
It could be an 8 or 9 year study. Heck, maybe even open-ended. And periodically, I'd just publish a synoptic update: year 3: sickness seems stressful to many people
year 5: There seems to be a link between sickness and stress
year 9: Important New Finding: Sickness Causes Stress
I could give lectures. I could write papers. I could get more than sufficient monies to conduct this research.
Come to think about it, maybe I'll go in Monday, quit my day job and make a transition.

I'm in bed all day re-reading the same paragraph of my adolescent literature over and over again, and yet he has the mental and physical wherewithal to run the country??

Let's try to remember that Bush has a host of advisors that actually "run" the country.
I have thought really hard about this career thing.
I am not sure what I would/could be good at right now.
The only thing that pops into my head over and over is
That now, since Lyme, I could be the poster child for a "Dumb Blonde".
I've had people remark to me many times in my life that they didn't think I was
As smart as I was----because I have blonde hair.
Nobody says that to me anymore.
Maybe it is because I lose my train of thought in the middle of a conversation.
Maybe it is my inability to find words other than that "thing" or "thingy".
Maybe it is because I lose my balance and run into things.
Who knows? BTW, do you think it is a paying job?

Hi Geneal - same problem here.
I was near the top of my class in high school, but because of my blonde hair I was called an "intelligent airhead". How silly!
Now I can't remember faces or names to save myself. It can get really embarrassing when I remember nothing about people I've come across before and they start talking to me and using my name!
My son's best friend is having a birthday party soon and I've been wracking my brain trying to remember his mother's name. It just won't come!

Since I am struggling and TRYING to find a NEW profession,,,I can handle,,,
I read this topic and think I can jump in here and FIND a job (oops),,,profession,,,I am able to accomplish.
Alas I find MORE reasons I am NOT qualified for said positions.
Saw an ad about an apprentice electric motor rebuilding,,,that sounded plausible,,,till I remebered how sick I get from electric motors running nearby!!
I REALLY want to find something I can do,,,I want to order one of those '2009 Concept Camaros' but alas cant till I get a GREAT job!!
These Cammaros is a copycat type thing like the Mustangs did a while back,,,based on the GREAT 1969 Camaros of which I was once a PROUD owner!!
HAS to be cheaper than a REAL 69 Camaro,,,specially a Z-28 one!!
So IF anyone has ANY off the wall ideas,,what I might do,,flood them over,,,all ideas considered!!
BUT president of the USA,,,dont bother to suggest!! No stomach for politics. I would rather solve problems!!being--just don--

It definitely wouldn't be teaching school. Trust me!! Especially not elementary. Nearly killed me trying to work while ill.

Names?? I was always mixing up names of students even when I KNEW what their names were!!!

Your post reminded me that when I first got sick and was still undx, I was trying to lead a writing workshop with elementary students.
They'd tell me their ideas, and then I'd write them on the board.
But they kept saying: Ms Andie, you left out three words in that last sentence! or you misspelled the word mother.
I tried to bluff, saying it was intentional (yeah, right) and that I'd give a prize at the end of the workshop to the student who could find the most errors.
Geez...
That workshop was my first signal that whatever was going on in my body had moved into my brain. And it wasn't pretty!

I did that too, as a teacher. My worst problems were in math. Lucky for me I was teaching 6th grade by then and always had some students who could tell me how to do it correctly and find all my errors.
I also team taught with the LD teacher. Didn't know that meant Lyme Disease then!
Written work was the most difficult thing for me to grade for years. It took too much concentration and I was always way behind in it.
It's a good thing I used my sense of humor in the classrroom a lot, so I could use it to cover for my mistakes, too!

You mean correcting their compositions?? OH YEAH....That was the worst!! And doing lesson plans were hard for me. Took a lot of planning ahead, concentration, and creativity.
