Hi everyone, just thought I would post some of my symptoms to get some of your thoughts. Here is my story. In July of 2005 I found a live tick on my scalp. I saved it went to the doctor and had the
tick tested.

The test came back negative for lyme. I didnt take any antibiotics because I was about five weeks pregnant and I was afraid too.

So during my prenancy I was very tired, I just attributted it to being pregnant, but I was also getting heart palpitations up to 150 beats/minute at rest, doctors didn't know why.

ok so after the birth of my baby I felt great tons of energy until about 3 weeks after she was born. literally over night I felt like I had gotten run over by a truck, extremely tired and achey from head to toe, over the past year and a half I have had the following symptoms.

Head to toe body ache, sore throat, swollen neck glands and underarm glands, stiff neck, pain at my joints, fingers, elbows and knee, lower back(flank area) ache especially when i wake up,numbness, tingling, decrease in sensation of face, hands, feet, legs, extreme irritability, rage and anxiety, and also a full feeling in my chest, eye floaters and some memory loss, and I know this sounds weird but I felt like my insides hurt.

I am currently awaiting blood test results for lyme, RH,Lupus...etc. I also have been hypothyroid for the past ten years.

Do you think that possibly I could have lyme and it didn't surface until my baby was born????? I don't know, I am just trying to get to the bottom of this. Thanks in advance, kate

Dear Kate,

Given your symptoms and history of tick bite, it is entirely possible

That you may have Lyme disease and/or co-infections.

I think I may have been infected the month I got pregnant with my son (5 years ago).

They actually thought I had West Nile Virus that month, but didn't hospitalize me or

Do any specific blood work.

Did fine through the pregnancy until week 36.

Developed pancreatitis out of the blue.

Was hospitalized for over a week. They never figured that out.

My son was born with a VSD (hole in heart), had difficulties breathing at birth,

And basically was "slow" with respect to reaching physical milestones,

Such as holding up head, sitting up alone, crawling and walking.

He didn't walk until he was 15 months old.

As I am a Speech Pathologist working with birth to 3 year olds, I knew that he was "slow".

I was 37, with a newborn and an 18 month old.

Breastfeeding around the clock. Was I tired? Oh yeah.

I put symptoms down to this. Stayed with sinus for over 3 years.

My son and I had continued problems with thrush and mastitis due to yeast.

However, I should mention that it is only in the past 8 months,

That I have been able to pull this info together to make the pieces of the puzzle fit.

I nursed that baby for over one year.

Never did get my energy back. Then we had Hurricane Katrina.

Lost my house to a tornado. Lived outside with babies for 37 days without electricity.

That was (I think) the straw that broke the camels back for me.

Started with continued eye-infections, dizziness, joint pain, arms falling asleep at night and more.

It took me months to get diagnosed. I could not find a doctor who would test me for Lyme

As there is no Lyme in La.

My husband was tested next....positive also.

Then tested my children. Both positive. [Frown]

Do you have a LLMD? Did you get your doctor do a Western Blot?

Or did he just do an Elisa? (high probability of false negatives with this disease)

I would recommend a Western Blot via Igenex, Ca.

I didn't know any better prior to finally finding someone to test me,

But was lucky enough to have IgM band 23 come back positive via Quest.

As that was the ONLY test ever positive for me out of the hundreds of blood tests I had done,

It was really a no-brainer.

You may want to consider getting your baby tested as well.

Hang in there. It sure does sound like Lyme, but you need a LLMD to help you

On your road to a diagnosis and recovery.

Welcome. Sorry you had to find this board, but glad you did. [Smile]

Hugs.

Welcome to the board.

Your symptoms definitely could be Lyme or coinfections. Remember that a negative test does not mean you definitely don't have Lyme.

The body does incredible things during pregnancy. I know people who had fibromyalgia symptoms disappear completely during pregnancy. Other people get sicker during pregnancy.

It's very possible that your body was suppressing the Lyme during pregnancy.

I would also look into getting tested for adrenal fatigue. Adrenal fatigue is a symptom of something else going on. It is caused by stress, like trauma or a chronic illness. I hate to say it, but the stress of pregnancy might be able to cause it in some people.

But, if you have it, I would look for an ongoing infection as the cause.

Hi Kate,

I had lyme bites 20 and 30 years ago, with various irritating and seeming unrelated symptoms. But I stayed in fairly good health, and was active and athletic.

My pregnancies were difficult for the first five months, and then I recovered for the last trimester. I was overwhelmingly exhausted after both births.

Unavoidable stressors, including losing jobs, our dog dying, having to move, and having a baby who souldn't sleep due to pain from congenital issues, threw me into full blown lyme symptoms.

I finally got a diagnosis after trying to recover four years after the birth of my second child.

My lyme symmptoms definately showed up after my pregnancies. I am getting so much better from treatment.

I would guess that your symptoms probably are lyme and coinfections. I'm sorry you are going through this.

I hope you can get to a good lyme doctor so you can feel better soon.
