As a mom of a six year old boy, who I have primary custody of, it has been pretty tough to keep up with him. It has also been hard on him because I havent been able to do the things I used to do. Fornutaly, I have to say, I have a very supportive ex-husband, who has helped out trememdously!
Well, last night I could barely move off the couch. He had asked if I would play a video game with him and I told him my eyes were just hurting to much and I couldnt. I apologized to him and felt bad as usually.
He looked at me and said with an absolute serious expression "it's ok mom, I KNOW YOU HAVE BUGS"
I started laughing hysterically. All I could think of was him going into his first grade class telling his friends and his teachers that his mom has bugs. I never thought my simplistic exlpanation to him would backfire.

I can relate -
My 6 year old duaghter calls them "tick germs".
I guess she told her teacher that I had tick germs!
Hahaha.
The teacher must be wondering what the heck she is talking about.
At least we can laugh right??

I have a funny story too. Not a child, but my now 50 year old husband who is debilitated with neuro lyme. He has tremors which have recently become severe.
We were eating dinner a couple of weeks ago and had peas. He couldn't keep the peas on the fork to get to his mouth and in his mouth. Very seriously, he declares, "there will be no more peas served in this house without mashed potatoes". I had to laugh, my response was "I hardly ever make mashed potatoes. So I guess we won't have any more peas! (of course, the funnier part is that he forgets this and pulls peas out of the freezer for a vegetable several nights a week)
He has been thinking a lot lately about what he can do for a job if he ever gets any better. He told me he figured out what his next career was going to be. A tambourine player, as he held out his uncontrollable trembling hand. I thought about it, if only. Highly unlikely since he is so sound, light and motion sensitive that he can hardly leave the house, let alone perform near a band! It is good to dream.
This disease takes so much away, I have to keep my humor.
I have been living the in sickness and in health part of the wedding vows for almost 5 years of sickness. The first 17 years were good, thank the Lord.
Blessings to all who struggle with this horrid disese every day.

You might have to stock up on some off those instant potatoes and just try to laugh evertime he pulls out those peas! LOL
I've realized how important it is to laugh at the little things.

When she told me what she said to him, I wanted to crawl under my truck wheel as I was driving when she said
" I told him look, go get a tick and put it on you. Within seconds, it will inject poison. Then you can be sick like my mom ( she beat her lyme) and not teach anymore".

Thanks for sharing this. I have a six yr old grandson. He knows ticks made Nana sick and he knows that Nana must do tick checks on him if he's been out in fearful areas to play.
I hope and pray that children never know the rest of the story.
