Congrats everyone! kam , I'm especially inspired by your progress.
Lou, I hope you find that treadmill! It's been sleety and snowy here, too, and that makes walking outside a real challenge.

Wow...look at everyone go!!!!! Yeah!
I got in a walk myself. It was slow motion but would guess I was out moving for 5 to 7 minutes. The cold really went deep inside my bones even though I was bundled up so much, but I really think it was good to get the legs moving.
Feeling pretty dizzy, but the legs aren't feeling like they are weakening after using them, so I know it's still positive.
Glad to hear the rest of you are out there walking away. I saw you all passing me by and it left a big smile on my face for all of you. Keep moving! Good job, all.

Sunday....10 to 15 min est.
Drove on dirt road to see if the wash was full of water.
Wasn't able to get there. The road was washed out.
A couple who live at the ranch at the end of the dirt road were standing by it in their flannel pj's taking pictures with their cell phone.
They were sending them to their boss as it was obvious they were not going to make it to work on Monday.
The drop off was about 10 feet est in several places.
it is going to be tricky fixing it. But, I will be back. :0
The guy said he thought the owners were going to sale the ranch. Thought about a ranch for those with lyme. It is only 2 miles outside of town.
The Healing Ranch.

Kam -- what a beautiful thought! The Healing Ranch!
I worked a double yesterday . . . unexpectedly. 9:30 - 9:30. The day cook got fired in the middle of his shift. Plenty of walking on the job, but not on the road.
One mile this morning. Dreary by dry weather.
And Andie . . . hubby set up my treadmill. It is now standing proudly in the basement ready start moving. I am going to climb on it this afternoon.

Kam,
The Healing Ranch. What a wonderful dream. In reality, if affordable, can you imagine how many lyme patients would LOVE to find a place like that to really be able to go?
Sadly, in my very worst days of lyme, I didn't want to inflict my illness on my family anymore, so I looked over the net for an escape, perhaps like a rehab, that would take me away somewhere and give my family a break. I never found that place. Your "Healing Ranch" would have been what I was looking for.
Andie,
You just keep plugging away. You are such an inspiration and I need to believe that months down the road, I'll be able to do even a small piece of what you are doing. Keep that walking going because I do know it helps with our healing process. Way to go!!!!!
Lou,
You mention the treadmill. I'm kicking myself all over the place. Back in my healthy days, I had a treadmill for the days I wasn't making it in for my step aerobics classes.
As I got sicker and sicker and no diagnosis, I found I was unable to walk and obviously the treadmill wasn't getting used. After many years of this "mystery illness" with no hope in sight, my husband was cleaning and either donating things or taking stuff to the dump.
Yep, the treadmill got donated because it was better that someone that could WALK would actually use it. NOW I wish I had it back. Not sure I could do it yet since I can't walk fast enough for even the slowest speed I wouldn't think, but I WILL get there.
All,
Gosh, think I'm just rambling when all I really want to say is good job. I've been doing a pace like thing in the house today, up and down the hall, for my walking today. No, it's not like what the rest of you are doing, but it's my way of not wanting to lose my legs by inactivity when I fear I don't have the strength to tackle a real walk outside. So I keep a pacing going to atleast get some movement in me. You all are great.
Cathy

Oh and tutu....I'm soooo sorry to hear about your sinus infection. That has to be miserable. I use to get them all the time. Are they related to our lyme or are they totally separate.
In any case, I really remember how horrid they make you feel. I do hope you can get rid of that stuff and get back to your walking, but for now, get your rest and feel better.

Cathy -- Do you have a walkman, or portable CD player with headphones? I find that if I walk to music that I can get "lost in the song" . . . which helps me forget how hard it is to do the walking.
I was thinking that maybe you can put on some music that you like and pace up and down the hall at your own pace. You might go a bit longer without realizing it.
I got my step counter yesterday. I am going to put the battery in and program it today so I can start using it tomorrow. I figure if I keep increasing my "steps per day" that I am helping myself get fitter.
Cathy, I am so proud that you keep plugging along inspite of the fact that you are not feeling well physically. That was kinda the reason that this thread was started . . . to keep each other motivated in an effort to get well, using exercise as part of the wellness plan. Healing hugs to you!

Monday....10 or 15 min.
Close call as I was driving across the dirt parking lot at the rodeo grounds to get to trail head.
Very muddy. Back end of car was going one way and the front end another...had to tell myself to just keep the car moving...not to fast but fast enough to not get stuck.
Trailhead was muddy too. Got off trail to look at creek. my white tennis shoe got stuck in the mud. I was up to my ankles in mud in my white socks.
Was able to pull tennis shoes out of mud, put my muddy socks back in tennis shoes once I hit the trail again.
Stood in creek near entrance of trailhead to wash mud off of tennis shoes.
Took the highway back home.
But, stopped by post office before going home. Mud oozing out of my shoes as I walked in.
Glad to be home safe and dry and warm.
Heart was pounding in my chest as I tried to get tennis shoes out of mud and walk in the mud.
Very exhausting. Big workout.

Thanks for the thumbs-up, td.
lou, how's the treadmill working out? You mentioned getting a pedometer. I've been writing an article for the company online newsletter this week about new research that people who wear pedometers walk farther each day than those who don't.
So you'll be stepping out now! I've actually got that on my Christmas list!
kam, don't get stuck in the mud...and, tu, I hope you're feeling a little better.

Ok...somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes. Have to admit that part was from jumpiness. Just didn't even want to sit still. And went to have lab work done...just the typical for checking liver, etc...and I was slurring my words all over the place.
Started trembling while walking and luckily husband was with me, but he ended up calling doctor and he's suspecting yeast, so got two pills of Diflucan...four days apart. The part that stings is that I've been so darn strict with my diet. I mean REALLY strict..so how did this happen? Ugh.
Anyway...I did get in a crazy walk of some sort, so I'm still in the running.
Lou, I like the idea of the music. I bet it would keep me going longer, especially if I could distract myself. Good idea.
Wow Kam....sounds like you are into ADVENTURES. Bet you were glad to be home after that one. I think with all that, you should get to add some milage.
Andie, glad to hear you are still out there faithfully walking. I think I've gotten left in your dust...but I say it with a smile.
Lymetoo....hope you are getting that sinus problem under control. Must be miserable.

I'm walking to get Tu and then we're going to head over and pick you up.
It's too rainy and gloomy here for there to be any dust!
I hope the storm isn't hurting any of you. They're saying we could see the effects of it in snow on Sunday.

Hey....I got in 15 minutes today. Was a little uneasy since the path I was walking was a bit icey, so that alone would have made me slow down.
But this was more than I've done in quite some while and looking forward to keeping it going.
Feel better today than yesterday, so I'm hoping tomorrow will be even better. Here's to hoping you all are holding up well and getting that walking in.
Gosh Andie, I was waiting for you and Tutu, but you never showed up. What gives?

Wednesday....15 min est
This is such a strange condition we are in. Had a good walk in the forest...stayed away from the trail head with the mud.
But, then when I got back someone had taken my parking space.
had my power chair sitting right by parking space.
The brain did not want to talk to the legs so I could get across the parking lot to the power chair.
Guess I passed my limit for being on my feet while being on the trail.
I was doing the lyme shuffle on the way back from the trail to the car so I knew I had just timed it right for getting back.
I was smart enough to not try and cross the creek on the 3rd crossing. Made that mistake before and it is still too wide to cross.
CAme back this time instead of doing the loop.
Talked to a guy earlier in the day who takes the same trail. He said he got lost yesterday. He ran into a pack of coyotes and backed out of the way.
But, he also lost the trail. He goes in much further than I do...but I supposed I should have asked him how far in he was.
I saw several elk scat droppings...still haven't seen any elk. I hear they will go after dogs too so just hoping all goes well if we do see them.

I'll let you know how it goes today.

Lou,
I, too, have had that thought. First just to help with footing and then just in case.
I saw a couple of hiking/walking sticks for sale that I liked a while back.
But, darn if I can recall where they were. Hopefully, I will remember.
I am not in the stores that much..either a thrift shop or a craft sale.

Not sure about a hiking stick as my arms are weak. Not sure until I try if that will work.

Ok -- the step counter. I took 5,075 steps yesterday. I am aiming for 10,000 steps a day, so I definitely have a ways to go!!
Hope everyone is feeling well.

We have a very small mall here...may have to do that. Most of our shopping centers are outdoors.

Friday....15 min est.
I was almost in tears regarding the meeting with the guy to help with workmen's comp. The ball is back in my court which is not a good place to be.
So, I got in the car and thought I would try to walk it off.
Good idea. Saw a coyote cross the street on the way to the trail head and a gray squirrel on the way back.
Ground was frozen but able to cross the creek several times without problems.
Also sunshine on the trial in the am. Good time to go. Evening the trail is in the shade.
Wanted to keep on truckin but used my noggin and told myself to turn around and head for the car.
If I had more strength by the time I got to the car I could take the other trail west.
By the time I got to the car I was zapped. Good call.
Stopped at thrift shop on way back. Recalled that is where I saw one walking stick. Of course it was gone.
Sent email to women's club. Recalled that is where I saw another walking stick during their holiday craft sale.
Just hoping that if I don't bother the wild life they will not bother me. Not so sure about Rosie.
I think she would be protective of me which might not be a good thing.

It's been a crazy (and late) week at work, so I haven't been able to post much...and I've missed being here!
i've kept walking, though:
1.5 miles on Wednesday. Nothing on Thursday 1.5 miles today
Saw my LLMD this week, and she noticed that my leg seemed much more swollen than usual. She was concerned but didn't want me to stop walking. She thinks it's great we're doing this!

I'll join your walking club. I've been walking more and just received a pedometer as a holiday present. Is 10,000 steps a good daily goal?

Hats,
Welcome back. Tis the season for hats and scarfs.
I still use the power chair and am very thankful for it.
But, it is also great to be on the trail for 10 to 20 min.
IN the past, I have tried walking. I would last about 3 days at the most and then could not get out and walk again for months.
NOw, it seems I am able to be out almost daily if I keep it simple and short. This is good.
Wondering if xango is the reason which is provided by friends, lower sprirochete load, supplements a friend is providing, able to eat better now...
...tough call...always variables with lyme so having a hypothesis and proving it can't be scientific (sp?)
Welcome aboard!

hats, Hi and welcome back!
Great to have you in the walking club. I've got a pedometer on my Christmas list and am worried that it will be unduly complicated to set it up.
In an earlier post (don't know if you saw it), I mentioned just having written a story about a recent article published in the Journal of the American Medical Assn. It said people who wear pedometers walk, on average, 27 percent more in a day than people who don't.
Researchers weren't sure why this happened, only that those results were consistent in a number of different studies.
OI honestly have no idea if 10,000 steps is good; it sounds great to me. Anyway, welcome.
And, kam, whatever the reason you're energized, I'm just so inspired by it and happy for you!

Saturday...end of week. Wow. We made it through another week.
10 min walk in forest today. Saw an old white bone. Weak today and yesterday. HOping I will be stronger tomorrow or later tonight. One never knows.
Conerned about power chair. I park it next to parking spot in parking lot.
Concerned it will not be there when I get back from hike.
Don't have the strength to walk to car from apartment and go on hike too at this time.
Not sure how to handle this one so power chair is safe while I am gone.
Possibly ask for parking place in front near main doors.
Then I could park power chair in big room across from office.
Taht would keep it out of the weather.
But someone could come along and take it from the lobby too.
