I thought this thread was more and more about general support, so i upped and moved it here.
Cheeky, I know...

In moving it, it occurred to me that it might be nice to have a one place where anyone who wants to can check in to offer or ask for herxing support and advice?

If so, my thread is your thread, or we can start a new one altogether. Whatjathink?

dilly The original thread is below!

waiting... took my first doxy ever this am, and the first new med i've had in over a year.

5 hours later and i'm not feeling a dang thing.
please remind me- it has been a long time-

just when can i expect that mac truck to run over me??

Okay, so you want me to tell you what you already know? Funny how we can answer questions for others, but our mind turns to mush if it's about ourselves!

It's different for every person .... it could start right away, four days into treatment, or a month into treatment. Let's just hope that your bacterial load is so low that you won't feel bad at all.

sometimesdilly
did i know that already?... [Eek!] [dizzy]

i seem to recall having SOME response- usually major-on the first day of every dang thing i've been on.

since this is the first med i've had that would tackle bart, i am fervently hoping to be knocked down, or at least batted around a bit, and soon.

no doubt i am a wee irrational on the subject at the moment.

oh, let it be bart....

Possibly Day Four.

Until then.... [Roll Eyes] [Big Grin]

Yeah, you know it's different for every person and every med! [Big Grin]

Here's what the Dr. B guidelines say regarding bart treatment .... I don't think doxy is for bart ....

quote:In the co-infected Lyme patient, eradication may be difficult. Many
antibiotic agents have been reported to be effective, including
cephalosporins, fluoroquinolones, erythromycins, gentamicin, rifampin and
streptomycin. In practice, these patients seem to do best with a combination
regimen that utilizes agents that can penetrate cells. Typical combinations
include an erythromycin, plus a fluoroquinolone or rifampin. Treatment
progress is most commonly assessed by PCR post treatment and serial titers.

07 April, 2008 Everyone is different and not everyone has a herx.

I definitely had 2 herxes....

The first hit me 2 weeks into doxy treatment and lasted almost a week.

The second herx was 2 weeks into Biaxin/plaq that landed me in the hospital and that one lasted a horrible 3 weeks.

After that it was hard to tell what was a herx verus the ugly sick cycles of Lyme.

That first herx was almost 9 months ago...

dilly, you silly person. When you run out in the road without looking, that's when the mack truck will hit you.

In other words, when you least expect it. Tutu, is right day 3-5 were not good for me last week.

I got slapped. Well, it felt like someone was smacking on my face anyway. Day 4 the abx went to my teeth. Guess where some of the nasty bacteria guys were hanging out?

Yeap, right up there around my one and only root canal. They also were making home on my crowned teeth that I haven't had cleaned up from heavy metals yet.

The root canal tooth is really ticked off. I've had to floss and gently brush gums with peroxide twice a day for the last week.

Even my tongue became inflammed and was burning.
My lips were cracked, red and sore.

Mouth and face are better. But I'm really taking it slow with abx. Only one 250 mg of levaquin a day. Who needs to go to herx he!!?

Now to see how it goes the next several weeks.
Good luck and do good things for your body big time.

Doxy hit me the next morning, after I had upped the dose to 300 mg/day.

Even though the improvements didn't stick, I do recall that it was fun while it lasted. [Big Grin]
I hope it works for you!! [group hug] [kiss]

That also seemed to correspond to my kete replication cycle because it lasted around 5 days & I got hit 2 more times at approx 28 day intervals. Each Herx was less in severity.

I don't know what a Bart die-off would feel like. From the cyclical nature, I'd say mine was definitely Bb Herx. I don't believe that Bart cycles the same way.

How much are you taking?
-------------------------------
sometimesdilly
07 April, 2008

Ali- 400mg a day starting off and for the meanwhile, adding in a 2nd abx in a week.

glad to hear it helped you, at least for a time. i'm sending you a pm a bit later- i have a special invitation for you that you are not allowed to turn down. [Big Grin]

Pam- is the moral of the story to go out and play in traffic at night with sunglasses on if i wanna be sure of mac impact??

i'm not big on herx-hell either; yours sounds like no fun what-so-herxing ever--- sorry to hear its been so rough still.

personally, i'd settle for a day of major kick-tick-butt herxing mayhem before returning to statues quo. i'd just like some bart confirmation.

6- i don't know if doxy is first-line for bart- it sounds not, but i'm assured it can rattle some bart cages, especially in the combo i'll be on.

day 4, huh toots et al? well, the upside for waiting til then is that focusing on herxes may well crowd out the wickedly (censored) has been flooding me with... [Roll Eyes]

thanks, guys

Waiting for a herx is kind of like waiting for the flu, huh? [Big Grin]

No matter how much you anticipate it.....it is always worse than you imagined. [dizzy]

I'd say between days 3-5. My first doxy herx lasted 4 weeks.

Then I had one good day. Then 3 more weeks of herxing.

Maybe you will get by this time with no pain.

Hoping that for you. Wouldn't that be like a mini-vacation? [Big Grin]

Hugs,
---------------

Cobweb

According to my LLMD , herxing is optional!
She says only about 10 to 15 % of patients actually herx.

I just started 200mg Doxy 2x daily last Wednesday when Patient First excised a deer tick from my stomach. [rant]

Pain is a good thing, otherwise I probably never would have found it. But the inflamation was the size of a half dollar with streaks shooting out of it.

Looked like the tick had taken a nose dive into a marshmallow. [shake]

Actually Patient First prescribed only 100mg 2 X daily for 3 weeks rather than their usual 200mg daily for 10 days(because of my past history of Lyme).

Of course as soon as I contacted my LLMD she doubled the dose and the length of time. I feel tired but otherwise okay, except for the PTSD.

OMG, Cobby- was the tick still attached- so you could at least have it checked?? [Eek!] [Frown]

i'm sorry to hear that news- hopefully the tick that found you was a one-dimensional kind of upstart and the doxy puts a quick end to the invaders.

we share the same doc, thanks to your recommendation some while ago. i know herxes aren't to be counted on much less timed, but in this case our doc is hoping for me that doxy will bring one on.

thanks for the input... now go take care of you, hon.

this week is the pits for everyone; isn't it.

It seems to me that I've seen it posted more than once that testing ticks is a waste of money. So it comes back negative for bart or lyme or babs?

Testing the tick is like testing the people. Sometimes the lab gets it, sometimes not?

They may have a strain of that bart or babs or whatever to compare. But the big search is really for antibodies or not in humans?

I've not be positive on bart yet? But that test results from the tick really don't matter? Am I the only one that sees it that way?

Especially when these blood suckers can carry so many different things. Super bacteria, parasites, protoza, virus? Who knows?

I'd would rather spend my money on me than a tick.
I have a friend (KY) that sent her embedded tick thru the CDC one time and it caused a big too do with the CDC phone call from Colorado.

No thank you. She became part of a three ring cirsus.

Monica-

there seems to be something of 2 camps- a Day 3 vs. Day 4-- to the Doxy Herx club. i'll write you down as in the 3 camp!

Betty- sorry to hear a Mack found you too this week. sounds dreadful. hopefully you're beginning to get a wee better?

as perverse as it sounds, i went looking for my Mack truck, Betty, and am celebrating its arrival.

to me, my every pain and ache and burn right now means a bunch of vile critters who've gotten WAY too cozy in my bod are being zapped and are in a world of hurt with no promise of another day.

Hey dilly - You surviving? Did you find the truck that hit you? Go get em.

You PM box is full.

What are you inviting me and Allie to? [Wink]

You knew it was gonna get you!

I, too, have heard that doxy hits bart. But then everybody naysayed me. Then recently I had another doc tell me it hits bart. I don't know what to think. Did this doc mean erlichia?

[puke] I just felt like putting that there cuz I never saw the pukers before. Do you realize that they are actually puking on
each other??
----------------------
sometimesdilly

luvs- did some house-cleaning, just for you, just this once; remember, the deal for the doggie room was cooking, not cleaning.. [Big Grin]

yeah, i've seen the puking faces before but never found quite the appropriate occasion to include them in a post.

trying to imagien what the lead in line would be. like, dear poster BGF, have a nice day [puke]

ok, now i've used them once too. you are such a bad influence, luvs.... [kiss]

Helllllooooo sometimesdilly,
It seems as though you and Luvdogs have invited me to something with the two of you!!??! If it is a party, count me in. I'm a little psycho on the fluconaxole and my hubby just stuck a needle in my tookass. So, I'm ready to party hardy.

I hope the mac was a just mac and cheese, but probably not. Drink lots of water -- it makes me feel like I'm doing something, even if I'm not...

happy healing,
Allie

Allie - it is so funny that you read this post! I thought she was talking about you and then I realized later that she was talking about AliG - boy did I feel dumb [bonk]

But now she's roped in. She can't let us down now - once she gets through this herx, that is. So hurry up and get better dilly pickle.

You better yet??
-------------------------------

charlie

Poor Dilly....I never herx on doxy, in fact I can take 200mg of the stuff and drag out a lawn chair and take a nap in the sun and NOTHING...no herx no sunburn and I even take it on an empty stomach.

I had so hoped doxy would work for me, I hope it works for you and it sounds like it does.

If it's a herx and not a drug reaction I bet it'll be much better by the weekend. [kiss]
----------------------------
Tracy9

Well Charlie all those Coronas with salt and lime killed the doxy before it could get to the bugs, you silly Texan you.

Dilly, your sense of humor and wit with the written word shines through, we are all pullin for ya, girl!!!

dilly, last night was the worst for me to get 1-2 hrs. total sleep with 15-20-30 min. here and there and in lift-out recliner otherwise watching tv to bide my time....uffda.

hubby bought me ice cream today for my raw throat.

take care, and best wishes to everyone killing off those spirochetes in your bods... [group hug] [kiss]

Dilly, if you're sending a Mac my way, make it a Big Mac! I'm fine with just feeling better from the meds, I'm not wanting to get hit by a truck myself! So far, so good .... but tonight is the third dosage of Levaquin for me, so I'm ready if it hits me tomorrow.

Charlie, are you sure your pharmacist hasn't given you placebos? I get blisters on my hands from driving and an upset stomach from doxy! I get the pleasure of switching to it from mino in a couple weeks after a Florida trip.
-------------------
sometimesdilly

Betty- no good, no good at all, what's up with you. did the ice-cream make your throat feel better? [Frown]

AllieToo: if luvs has another sleeping bag to throw down in that doggie room, why don't you come play too- the more the merrier. Right, luvs?

Or at least, come hang out some night on Chat. hint- its most fun when the moon is full.. (awoooooooo)

Six- ok, then, a Big Mac it is, birthday lady.

With... a tofu burger, not meat; and a 7 grain unyeasted bun (nix the wonderbread fluffy-white excuse for a bun),

pure crushed garlic sauce instead of.. whatever that orange gunk is, and with heaping piles of onions and raw spinach leaves and sun-ripened tomatoes.

Tracy- thank you. and just so you know....

I'm already baaaaack! The doxy is still yelling inside me, but i woke up this AM and found i can block out the noise now and keep on going..

hi Charlie- sorry the doxy didn't work for you.

i'm not sure where the (doxy) wave is taking me either, but hey, i plan on enjoying every inch of the ride... thanks for your kind thoughts [kiss]

Okay, Dilly, when's lunch? But, how about a lamb burger instead of the tofu burger? I'm all talk on the junk food .... I actually eat much like you posted .... except for the tofu burgers ...

See you tonight in chat?

I have six kids and four birds .... come over here and we'll see how good you really are at blocking out the noise!

Betty- no good, no good at all, what's up with you. did the ice-cream make your throat feel better? [Frown]

dilly, it helped and i savored every bite full; been gargling with warm salt water, and hubby fixed jeoo today for me.

i have a little voice back today; my ribs hurt so bad from all the non-stop, deep coughing.

not good on bladder or gas/diarrhea too! [toilet]

Just started mino on Wed. So far, no truck. Feel like I've been hit by a couple of bicycles and a wheelbarrow. Light weight vehicles are good.

And as I was typing that, my lyme brain heard the sound of bicycle bells. Gotta love it. [bonk]

When I was on doxy, didn't herx on day 3 or 4. Stoopid body waited until day 19(!) to finally do something.

Betty,
Might want to get some slippery elm bark tea for your throat.

Works beautifully and helps with digestive problems as well as sore throats. Doesn't taste bad either.

Hi Dilly

So far with every increase in doryx I herxed bad on day three night. For example I was bumped to 400 4 days ago and last night I felt like someone was putting an ice pick from my teeth to my brain..through my eye...graphic enough [Smile] Last time it lasted three days so I hope this is the same. I do not know what to take to get rid of this pain.

Sorry this is why I was not talking last night.

Curiouser-minocycline was one med I absolutely could not tolerate. Tried several times.

Now with the Doxy I have found that an hour after I take it I go through a period of nauseous dizziness, overwhelming fatigue, where's the waste basket feeling, but I eat a granola bar, rest and within half an hour I'm up and running again.(running being a figure of speech of course) [Razz]

Cobweb,
I'm not sure if this is a herx or side effects of the Mino. Lightheaded, vertigo, whole body weakness. I wobble now too.

Can't focus much on anything either. It's putting a crimp in my research.

Tingling has gotten worse too, especially at night. It downright hurts! And kind of an all-over-my-body restless leg feeling.

No additional joint or muscle pain tho, which makes me think this is maybe side effects. Do they go away?

What was your reaction on Mino?

With doxy, it was constant nausea that varied between mild and severe, with occasional vomiting as an added bonus.

Didn't much help with my lack of appetite. Lost 9 pounds last month.

My stomach's much better now (and I'm eating like a horse), but the rest of me feels "not quite right" more than usual.
