So I went to a LLMD yesterday and after talking with them for quite some time they came to the conclusion that I have Bartonella and most likely Lyme--though Ive have two negative Lyme tests. I had suspected the Lyme anyways so its not really a surprise. I started taking Doxy and Rifampin (sp?) last night and it 2:05pm right now and I feel like CRAP!
I was warned of the whole herx issue and luckily the work day is about done...Does this herx thing usually last for awhile? Ive been told that some people are only affected for a day or two when first starting the antibiotics and others can have episodes for a couple weeks.
Also I was given a sheet with some diet restrictions on it..anyone else get this? Being a Type I Diabetic Im already good about eating healthy and whatnot but its not like I am on some super strict diet. Evidently I cant drink MILK while on this stuff??? or eat cheese?? I understand why, it just stinks... Posts: 5 | From VA | Registered: Apr 2008

Hey Mackster, sorry you're feeling bad right now. I think that the amount of time you herx and the severity of the herx usually depends on how long you've been sick, and your own body and how well you flush out toxins.
I've been on abx for almost a year and I STILL herx from time to time - but then again I went undiagnosed and was horribly ill for almost three years.
Anybody here will tell you that there's no quick fix or easy answer. Just know that feeling bad right now is a good sign - You're killing those nasty things!
As far as the food thing is concerened...I don't know. I have never been on doxy.

Ooooh! Doxy and rifampin together....starting on that is heavy duty.
I learned the hard way to start one med at a time for 3-4 days to make sure I don't
Have a reaction to one before I add in others.
If you get to feeling really bad (we all do), call your LLMD and let them know.
My LLMD allows me to back off meds as needed.
However, I've been doing this for quite some time.
You can have milk, just not around the doxy.
So, if you take doxy in the am and pm, schedule your milk in at least two hours
Away for either dosage.
Hang in there. We're here for you if you need us.
Hugs,

Yea I just read something that said dairy products can be taken 2 hours after or before the meds are taken. PHEW!!
The doctor said he would like to start battling the Bartonella and Lyme first. He has suspicions that I may also have Babesia but cant confirm it yet and said that if I was still having certain symptoms at the end of this cycle of meds then I may need to start on a second cycle for the Babesia---only time will tell Posts: 5 | From VA | Registered: Apr 2008
