Hey Gang,

I hope that you are all doing as well as can be.

The latest news with me is: My dr. has agreed to let me taper off

the Prednisone and I'm waiting to hear back from a pain

specialist:)

My doc. asked me to check out the book about trauma- it's called:

The Journey by someone Bays

In case anyone is interested. I'm going to keep an open mind and if I find anything that may be useful for others- I'll post some quotes.

Other news: On Monday, I was re-accepted to UNC CH (my old

school). I left and began attending DePaul U., online for 4 years,

but found that Lyme and on line learning and I don't mix as well

as I had hoped.

Right now, I'm trying to get my ducks in a row.

I'm figuring out if I can afford to go back to UNC and if so I'm

crossing my fingers that my dr. and I can come up with a way to

keep me well enough to make it to class. (Perhaps, 1 or 2 at a time).

I'm considering the idea of putting off NEW Lyme treatments, and making finishing school my priority while maintaining some baseline protocol.

Now to the subject:

I've been in college for 11 years and have lots of random credits, but now that I've been sick for so long....

I don't know what I want to do or what I can do.

I've met with career specialists etc. and stumped them b/c of the

Lyme symptoms-- the brain fog/memory loss/cognitive sym.

combined with physical limitations and unpredictable health

changes can be challenging in many fields.

I realize that we all have slightly different symptoms, etc., but

I'm wondering, if any of you have not responded to treatment, yet have found a career that you can manage or even enjoy?

I'm guessing that you all may have the best career recommendations for me, since you are such a diverse group with a broad range of career and LD experience.

Penny for your thoughts,

thanks

kado

my undergrad is in speech-language pathology and I had planned on going to grad school as it is required in order to practice as a speech pathologist.

But, I am still battling with the Lyme and it is really hard to plan for a two year long commitment when I don't know how I am going to feel day to day.So, I probably will not be going to grad school, at least anytime soon so recently I have been having to brainstorm new ideas too!

Also, I can't have a normal 8-5 job because I am still unable to maintain a normal schedule. So, right now I am doing custom invitations and stationary from my home. I have always loved graphic design and being crafty so this was an easy way for me to work when I am feeling well and feel semi-productive. I hope to expand if my health ever improves and stabilizes!

Some other ideas I have thought of that could be manageable with Lyme....
-real estate agent(make your own hours, classes online)
-bookkeeper(I have friends who do this from home)
-psychic telephone hotline(lol j/k!)

hmmm.. I will keep thinking for you. What are your main symptoms that would hinder you working?

Do something you love and enjoy if you can!

many of us here are involved in direct sales. think home parties for variety of product lines.

this allows you to limit your activity, work when you want to, as much, or as little as you want.

if you can work regularly, even part-time, you can achieve success with many of these companies.

check out the direct selling association. the reputable companies are members.

i realize this doesn't answer your college question, but could be bridge from treatment to school.

Prednisone--did an LLMD put you on this steroid?

According to most, such a drug is absolutely contraindicated

in Lyme cases...

KGA - I have an MA in Speech Language Pathology! Little good it does me now though...

I actually a little over a year ago became an "artist" - I've sold a bunch of stuff and been in some stores.

I have a web store where I sell my art too.

I have not made very much so far, but it's so great that a whole other career path open for me that I can do from home on my own time.

Good luck to everyone finding their way

I'm also in direct sales.. no home parties. I also make jewelry and sell it in gift shops.

REthink the real estate possibility. You would have to go tromping around property that could be full of ticks.

I also am unable to walk up a lot of stairs or hilly areas [they abound here!].

And you're also at the mercy of your customer. You would need to "be there" when they need you.... or you would lose the sale.

So real estate is out, in my mind!

Hi Lakespur and others,

Lakespur- what is your online site? I'd love to see your work.

I have considered real-estate, and I think it's too demanding for my needs.

Just the night before last I was in bed most of the day, went to bed by 8 woke up the next day at 4:40pm-- I was supposed to do a 3 hour modeling job, but had to cancel:(

I fell back asleep until 11 am today, and I'm still lounging around in my PJ's drinking tea, taking meds. and hoping to take care of some medical bills.

Too bad the internet replaced phone sex operators:)

I'm pretty bad with sales in general, so I'm not sure about that, but I'll look into it more.

I welcome any other suggestions.

Thanks

Hi Kado - I'm not sure I'm allowed to link to my "store" here on Lymenet...

I'll give you the link to my blog though - lots of links to view my art through it..I think that is ok since lots of people have links to their myspace pp etc
