Well that is 9 ticks in 2 weeks that we have pulled out of the dog. Wood ticks.
The first 8 he got while turkey hunting the last 2 weekends with my husband. But the one today I believe he got while on a walk today in surbubia along a canal that has taller grass along the canal.
He even has Revolution (topical stuff) on that is supposed to kill the ticks and a tick collar. I don't quite understand the purpose of the topical stuff. The ticks attach themselves and then die after a couple of days. But by that time they will have transmitted any TBI so doesn't it defeat the purpose.
I wonder how many ticks are running lose in my house? I found one crawling on the wall. UGGGHHHH. I hate those ****ers.

I've pulled over 10 ticks from my 7 dogs in the last couple of months.
I keep advantix on the dogs. All of them.
Most ticks are dead, but two or three were engorged.
I am trying (very hard) to keep my dogs out of the woods.
Of course a fence would help.
I haven't seen any crawling on the walls though.

IF your dog is allowed outside then inside,,,you can bet he is dragging them IN!!!
Maybe time to revisit your tick protocol. Merrygirl has GREAT advice as well as increasing frequency to get stronger doses and action.
Me thinks she will be along directly!!
Meanwhile I might be tempted to buy some Tempo and spray inside and outside your house,,,and NOT let the dog OFF the treated area!!!
Tempo is made of geranium flowers and smells to me like spraying water. NO odor at all,,,and pretty tame,,cause its labeled for INSIDE resturants!!!
Maybe a spray bottle of Tempo applied to dog before it enters house after exposed areas may help!!
Nudder dumb idea,,,plant geraniums next to all exterior doors. Dont know IF that works for sure,,,but could it HURT???

Geneal I can relate to pulling ticks off, although the ticks were all still alive, albiet moving very slow and none were engorged. Do you let your dogs in the house?
My dog is very spoiled and is in the house up on the bed and couches thankfully not the kitchen counters.
Don I will have to look into the tempo stuff. I assume you can get it at a hardware type store.

Try an ag supply place,,,where they sell fertilizer and chems. Hardware store SHOULD sell it but often dont for the prepackaged easy stuff.
Somebody last told me they found it online,,might be your BEST and easiest option!!

If you can just think point A to point B to point C.
It goes something like this: if you can think, "do I want ticks in my house?" and can then go on to think: "do ticks come in my house via my dog?" and then think: "do I mind if I find a tick on myself?"
It will be only a matter of time before you will find yourself at the last question. You may see the tick on yourself, you may not. But if you are seeing ticks on your dog, your dog comes in your house, sleeps on your bed, goes on your furniture, you will find ticks on you. Only a matter of time.
The one worry I have after reading your post is that you are applying both a topical tick insecticide (Revolution) and your dog is wearing a tick collar??? I sure hope not. I have read that if you apply topical tick products (like Revolution, Frontline, etc.) then you DO NOT also put a tick collar on your dog! Double whammy. It's all pesticides, no matter how you apply it.
I do not think Tempo is made to be put on animals, or dogs, I don't have my old empty bottle to look to see for sure, but I'm almost positive it's not for topical applications to anything but plants, concrete, outside stuff.
I have outside only cats. We do not let them in our house, not even for a minute. We find ticks on them year round. They have Frontline Plus (kills the eggs supposedly) applied year round. Until the tick bites/embeds and stays on my cat for 2 days, it is NOT DEAD. After 2 days attachment, when I remove the tick, it is dead as a doornail.
There's no 100% product that repels/kills ticks.
I agree with Lymetoo, concrete is the ONLY way to go if you do not want to go down the lyme trail again. . .

Well first off-
Revolution stinks when it some to tick control. That is why it comes with a tick collar. It is safe but not effective.
Please switch to K9 Advantix. This stuff is great. I make no money or anything off it -it is just great stuff.
The product works only with your pets skin. It does not enter the blood stream and is not systemic. Very safe product.
It repels and kills fleas ticks and mosquitos. If your dog is doing activities like hunting, apply the advantix every three weeks. It is prefectly safe to do so. Buy the advantix at the vet.
Ticks that come in contact with your dogs fur/skin become paralyzed and die very quickly. They can not bite and attatch. According to the rep I talked to recently the product is 99% effective.
I use this on my dogs and I havent found 1 tick. I have 3 dogs. They don't hunt but we live near the woods.
If you have more Q's please let me know. If you follow this advice you will not be pulling ticks off your dog.

I told the vet that my main concern was ticks on my dog not heartworm even though they are seeing cases of heartworm here but not like the midwest. So why did he give me Revolution when others work better.
THe bummer deal is that I just bought 12 months worth of Revolution online. And it sounds like it is not the most efficacious for ticks. UGH So now I will have to fork out and buy the k9 Advantik. I will have to go and talk to the vet again and chew his ear.
My dog and cat are inside/outside pets.

sorry doomer. Some vets and hospitals have "relationships" with certain companies. They may get a break on the cost of products therefore make more money. Even frontline is better than Revolution, so not sure what your vet was thinking.
Frontline is the best for cats right now. Advantix is NOT for cats.

Preventic collar is AWESOME at repelling ticks. I am in the tick capital of the country and we have not found a tick on our dog in the 3 years since we started using this collar. With frontline alone we found over 30 ticks after one afternoon at my in-laws house.

it's permethrin that makes the difference. they die before they get to it. frontline plus used to have it-now i'm not sure if it does. check the ingredients.

Frontline Plus and Advantix do fleas and ticks. According to the presentation the Frontline lady gave us at the office, the ticks don't have to bite the animal before they're killed.

PLEASE be cautious when removing ticks from your pets. MANY TBDs are transmitted transdermally, so you should always wear gloves!

I received a couple of bites recently and wondered where I got them. Then we were shocked to find ticks on our dog. She only goes outside into our fenced in backyard. We do have bushes and grass all around and never had a problem before. Yesterday I got Frontline (with fipronil?)and a large can of Zodiac spray for the upholstery and her bedding. I'm glad we don't have carpeting in the rooms where she is allowed. I hope these things work - and soon. I'll probably end up taking her outside on a leash for walks on concrete which she'll probably hate. I'll have to find out about spraying the whole yard.

Fronline is not the best for ticks in my opinion. Get Advantix instead. Not too sure about the zodiac spray.
