Those of you who have already seen Under my Skin-
Do you think it would be appropriate for mature or younger teens?
How emotionally intense is it? Does it go into theory of sexual transmission and/or congenital lyme. If so, how far?

I went to the NYC showing and they had many children there that weren't even in their teens yet. With that said, I don't think there will be anything in it that you need to protect your children from.
As far as the sexual transmission section, there is only one very brief section where one of the main "characters", Mandy is leaving an appointment after much improvement and she says that it's been in the back of her head that she maybe gave it to her husband.
They list symptoms he is now getting that could be lyme, but even when she says that she wonders if she could have given it to him, I don't believe she ever says "sexually" really, although I think that is what is implied.
And right after that, Dr. B comes on and says that the spirochette is similar to syphlis and it is transmitted that way, so this could be as well....then you get someone from the IDSA saying that they know lyme and it is NOT sexually transmitted and that is the end of anything relating to sex.
Since they don't know 100 percent either way, it is a very small section.
As far as the intensity of the documentary, I do think that if this child has either lived lyme him/herself or close to a family member with it, they have seen it first hand and it will be more of a comfort to know they are not alone.
I brought my two college aged daugthers. They had watched me go through this nightmare for years and they were recently diagnosed at VERY early stages but I think their main comment was that this movie just inspired them to actually take their abx because they both were the type that felt it couldn't get that bad with THEM, so they would keep skipping them.
Enjoy the documentary and let us know how it goes.

I have lyme and my daughter who is 21 has it since age 4.....I wish that she could have come with my husband and I to see it but with her work schedule it wasn't possible.....
I am looking forward to getting the DVD and showing it to her...and my son who is 25....
My daughter to isn't good with her meds.......as soon as she feels a bit better.........she stops......then crashes.....I'm hoping this makes a diffrence with her.
There were kids there when we went.....I think they may have been 10 or 12....not even teens...I really don't think there was anything in it that would do any harm to see it...

It wasn't inappropriate. It implies it can be transmitted sexually, but it wasn't ever graphic. When I saw it, there were teens and children in the audience, so it will probably be okay.

Keep in mind they were showing the birth of a baby... and telling how it could be passed along too.
Also... if the children have Lyme or have someone they know with Lyme that they love.. in MY opinion it could be upsetting.
I've never been a movie reviewer.. and each family has their own ideas and limits... but this would be my concern.
Also not sure they would "get" the idea the ducks on there were NOT credible. WE know that.. but they might miss the point and doubts form?
The movie doesn't say Wormser and Shapario are idiots.. they do a good enough job of showing it themselves... but just not sure a child would catch that point.
I took a younger friend to a movie with a bunch of us. They walked out of the movie upset... actually VERY upset.
The movie was Poseidon Adventure.. and their family spent a lot of time around boats.
So you never know what will affect the young ones.

Part Two-
It can be quite emotionally intense- children disabled, etc. My thought is it won't teach them anything they couldn't learn elsewhere... and might be upsetting.

i think it might possibly be too disturbing for young children, but for most teens, particularly teens with lyme, i don't think it's inappropriate at all.
