let me whine for a bit-no one else will really understand...it was a long day...

LLMD appointment today- 2.5 hours away
-1st one since Picc inserted and was feeling well enough to drive myself. Decided to take 8 year old and leave 11 year old @ home. Less fighting.

Major flooding in my home area so triple checked on road closures and conditions before I left.

Had to change dressing before I left because the site is still leaking- packed cooler w/water, and iv medication & supplies in case I was delayed for any reason-starting to run late...

Realized I forgotten the iv pump 15 minutes away from home-oh well, what could go wrong...kept going. Don't want to be late...every slow moving flood gawker out and about seeing the destruction and IN MY WAY!

Finally get out of flood area and think we can still have time to get lunch.

All well, until flashing lights in rear view mirror-
"No, officer I don't know how fast I was going. The ticket is how much?!!!!"

20 minutes later,(could have picked up my pump in that time) broke, and trying to find the correct bribe so 8 year old doesn't tell anyone, continue on the adventure-slowly...

First time I was the driver for this trip so on edge about going the right way the whole time-
by some miracle, didn't get lost-

no time for lunch, gave an apple to 8 year old and promised lunch soon.

Appointment was...interesting...

LLMD freaked out when I removed the netting over my Picc line and there wasn't a plastic sterile covering over the insertion site-

"Yes, I always have one on, must have forgotten this morning when I changed the dressing, yes I know this is important to keep clean, yes, I will quit touching the area, yes, I know this is a straight access to my heart, no, you don't have to call the home health care nurse, yes she uses gloves and a mask and is very careful. yes, I'll make sure I wear gloves when I change the dressing-you don't want me to... ok, I'll only let the nurse touch the area and yes, she will do it the way you just showed me"

When she left to get more sterile supplies, I told my 8 year old that I think I was just spanked...she agreed.

"No, the hospital said not to use Heprin w/ this pump. No, I didn't know that your Lyme patients are supposed to no matter what the hospital says. No, you don't need to call the home health care nurse- yes, that is the number..." Spanking #2 and I got to share it with my HHC nurse...

Otherwise, appointment went well.

Late lunch, Chinese place close by. When food arrived, they used brown sauce (gluten). Decided to eat it anyhow- tired and hungry. Giggled with 8 year old about breaking the rules and how I hoped LLMD doesn't walk in and see this or it would be spanking #3. Giggle, giggle...

You guessed it in walked LLMD! 8 year old about busted! Had to hide plate and then eat fast. Got away w/getting caught, but paid for it later-really should stay gluten free when traveling long distances...

Did take 2 wrong exits on the way home, but made it home...slowly

Infusion time- bit late, but ok. Problems w/saline flush and no extra because flooding has delayed my supplies for the last 2 days. No room for waste...

Alarm going off-tried to readjust but pumps thinks there is something wrong. HHC nurse doesn't answer pager-probably getting over her spanking...

Called Infusion Co.- nurse had me readjust everything again- works fine while on the phone.

Currently been typing w/one hand because every time I bend my arm, the alarm goes off-brings back memories of sirens and flashing lights...

1.5 hours more of holding my arm straight so I can unhook and fall into bed.

I worry about the line tomorrow- I've had enough spankings for one day...

I thought after getting a good night sleep, yesterday wouldn't seem so bad- wrong it really was a disaster- at least now, I can smile and hope it never happens again!

Thanks for the supportive smiles- I knew you would all understand. [Big Grin] Today was much better!!!

Betty- No, it wasn't Iowa Troopers(at least the $170.00 would have stayed in IA) It was a Barney Fife town cop from WI(no offense WI)Got me in a nice speed trap. Limit went from 55-45-25 in feet-
37mph was not slow enough...
[bonk]

The pump/line problem was because the doctor had taped down the line to close to the bend of my elbow. This was my guess, but I wasn't going to touch the dressing after the "spanking" I got from her. HHC nurse has it all under control now.
(They are checking on pager problems-storms have created many problems)
[spinning smile]

Finally got my infusion supplies this afternoon. I had to go to the local hospital for saline yesterday as well-Flooding had stopped FedEx from delivering. Keep all of Iowa in your prayers- it is a mess!

shucks, Iowa needed your $170 [lol] [Big Grin] kidding of course.

tutu, thanks for the prayers for ALL IOWANS.

earlier, i posted a very poignant post about the 4 teen boy scout campers that died yesterday in the sudden tornado on LITTLE SIOUX, IOWA between Omaha and iowa.

3 were 13 from Omaha;

1 was 14 yr. old from Eagle GRove, Iowa, who moved her 3 yrs. ago from Nebr.

Des Moines newsreporter, ERIC HANSON, talked about the teen Aaron for 5 minutes. He had called teen twice to set up a FEATURE SEGMENT of entertainment as this young man has done so much with his life ... charity type work!

It hadn't gotten taped yet. Last winter, tall 6'10" Eric/tv reporter fell on ice and broke his hip.

teen Aaron sent him one of his colorful pillowcases, NEBR. SPORTS ON IT, with a beautiful border of something else. he showed tv viewers tonight!

he'd been making 100s of pillowcases to take to the area hospitals for KIDS IN HOSPITALS!!

he earned the money to buy material thru selling his mom's jams/jellies and was active in helping senior citizen center folding napkinds, and hleping out at volunteer fire station too.

earned his EAGLE 1 yr. prior to normal; remarkable young man. he was in 1 of the 2 buildings when the walls collapsed killing him and others.

40 injured! so sad; no where for them to go to; out in open. neighbors down the road knew nothing had taken place until they saw it on the news!!!

news tonight said floods are worse than 1993 except des moines hasn't lost their water plant like before for 10-14 days!!

watching some of aerial footage, 1 city has 3,000 home UNDER WATER FROM ROOF DOWN!

OH MAN!! THAT WAS A GREAT READ!! THAT WAS MY KIND OF DAY TODAY, except I'm not on i.v.

But I did get spanked too!! By a dr. who thinks she's lyme literate. After politely disagreeing with her that "all Igenex results are positive", she CUT ME OFF AND SAID, I AM THE EXPERT!!! [tsk]

O.K. alrighty then..... [Roll Eyes]

Yeah she's the expert. Someone asked about coinfections and she said, "yes all coinfections are treated with the same antibiotic"......WHAT????!!!! [dizzy] [bonk]

Needless to say afterwords 3 of our group members talked with her about dr's inability around here to diagnose coinfections. She said, and I quote, we just don't see them!!

Um perhaps you are not LOOKING for them?!!!

SO disaster at the lunch and learn, came home to find out my lymie daugher who is working 2 jobs got fired from the 2nd one because, she's not available enough - HUH??

Owner interviewed her a month ago, and daughter told her she's only avail M-Th due to 2nd job at Borders!!!

And now all the sudden it's a problem??!!

And youngest daughter is having bartonella meltdowns daily since school is out. She has been tough to deal with!!

Tomorrow will be better!!!!!!!

Hugs for you!!

Gail
