Recap of week 35

Akinwolf

Tuesday-Me and Rocky 3 miles today. Moved some cut down trees in the yard and pulled a few weeds. Couldn't start the lawnmower or the weed eater (residual problem with healing right arm).

Wednesday-Another 3 miles for me and Rocky. Whew!!! It's hot down here. In the 90's even around 10:00 a.m.

Andie: Did not hear from Andie this week. I think she is just trying to work and get through the summer. Miss you.

Bob: Miss you too. Guess you are still resting from hitting the 100 mile mark. Sheesh.

Cathy

Last we heard from Cathy she is in search of getting the supplies for the IV. Her area is also having thunder storms so it helps cut down the disappointment of not being able to get out and walk right now.

And she has an appointment in NY MOnday. Looking forward to hearing how that goes and how you did. Praynig and hoping all goes smoothly and positively.

Don

Miss you Don. Hope you are able to access Lymenet soon.

And the week's March on as we march towards better health. If you are interested in adding exercise or movement to your program to regain health this is a great place to be. Please join us.

Recap of week 10 for group 2

Awesome Ali

June 22: OK. Finally yesterday I had a shift from depression to a much better frame of mind. I started to set limits with my soon to be estranged husband.

I stood today 8 times and almost jumped out of the wheelchair a few time. Will lie on stomach an hour tonight. Glad to be back. Aliyah

June 28: Rode the theracycle yesterday. 2MPH for about 35 minutes. About 1 mile. Then I crashed. Not the bike. My body.

Welcome back Ali...setting those limits with people or ourselves is tricky when the health is low...good for you.

Justag

Did not hear from Justag this week. Hope all is well Justag.

Larkspur:

June 23rd: My pedometer read 2.22 miles today when I got home from my walk!

If anyone happens to believe in special meanings when you encounter a particular number sequence:

"222-Newly planted ideas are beginning to grow into reality. Keep nurturing them, and soon they will push through the soil so you can see evidence of your manifestation.

In other words, don't quit five minutes before the miracle. Your manifestation is soon going to be evident to you, so keep up the good work! Keep holding positive thoughts, keep affirming, and continue visualizing."

June 24: 2 miles today for me...

MTree

June 22: I did walk....1.75 today up at the beach

To add on to my week from Sunday..........
Monday I did a mile...

Tuesday...1 mile during the day....by myself.....then when Dh came home another mile....
.........so 2 miles for Tuesday....

Today Wednesday.....decided to just go sit at the beach....which was big for me....the driving.... ..... no walking tonight...
Thursday...26th...1.75..miles
Friday... ...not a great day for walking...
Saturday....out and about day...visited mom in PA... Dh and I took her to Home Depot...Barnes and Nobles....no walking other then shopping..

Sorry to hear about the cat. They so eaasily become part of us and live in our hearts forever.

Lou B

Haven't heard from Lou B lately. Hope you did not over do it Lou.

From Scott's article in Public Health Alert

E = EXERCISE.

"E" was an evolution of Teitelbaum's previous "SHIN" protocol.

Dr. Teitelbaum observed that those patients that did the best with their recovery were those that incorporated an "exercise as able" component into their protocol.

Each component of the "SHINE" protocol is a key to improving a patient's state of well-being.

None of these components can be overlooked. The following are some important points of each of the components of the "SHINE" protocol.

And later we have the Big E again...in SHINE

E - A well-rounded treatment protocol should incorporate exercise.

"Exercise as able" is the recommendation of Dr. Teitelbaum. He suggests walking can be a very powerful option.

Do only what you can do. 5 minutes of walking daily is a great place to start.

When your energy production ramps up as one continues on the SHINE protocol, exercise can be increased.

It is important to remember that early on in treatment, the body has limited energy and over-exercising can be counter-productive and cause the patient to crash.

Chronic illness such as Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Lyme disease and others are the body's way of protecting itself and taking one out of the game in order to limit further damage in the face of overwhelming stress.

Dr. Teitelbaum himself suffered from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in the mid-70's and went from medical school to sleeping on park benches as a result of his illness.

He has worked tirelessly for decades to create a recovery program that truly "SHINE"s, and fortunately for us, he has done it! These are exciting times...
http://www.publichealthalert.org/Articles/scottforsgren/Teitelbaum.htm

Thank you Scott and Dr. T and all those others who have walked the path before us and are now helping us walk it.

Kudo's to you.

Sun am: 1 hr outing est in pc after 2 excedrin

noon: drove Rosie to dog park and walked in, slouched with feet up, walked out when the guy who talks alot came in.

Brain still can not be in the presents of a non stop talker and be able to walk out.

Car overheated on way back. Not the first time, but brain was working well enough this time to put two and two together.

Noticed the smell when I was driving around last week and knew something wasn't right...but brain was not working well enough to catch on.

So, waiting until it cools down ...most likely when it gets dark...and then will see about putting water in the radiator.

Wondering about coolant too. Think I have the problem when I turn air on.

Note; dog park is about 5 min away so it is not good it is getting that hot that fast.

Not good also that the brain and body are so limited on what it can do.

Trying to do what I can first before I take it to a mechanic.

Hurray! We got our first monsoon today. The temp dropped about 20 degrees.

Went out to toilet Rosie in my power chair and had to come back in. Got in the car to take her to the dog park instead.

it was still coming down too heavy for the dog park.

So, waited it out. Clear now. Deed done.

2 miles yesterday in 32 minutes. Huge improvement over when I first started when it would take me an hour to walk 2 miles.

I'll try to get last week's summary up later this afternoon. Sorry it is taking me so long to get the summaries done.

My plate is just a bit full these days. The one thing I've noticed about getting well is that everyone needs something from you. You no longer have much free time.

Which is fine with me. I'll take a full healthy plate any day!!

There's a full healthy plate waiting for all of you. Keep moving!

2 miles in 32 min. Pretty Cool Lou.

No worries on the summaries.

YOu come first and your health.

It must feel great to be able to do things again, but let me know if you figure out how to stay within your limits and pace yourself.

Rosie tells me when my brain is being weird. She just refuses to go. It doesn't happen often now, but I am thankful for her.

Tues am: 30 min est around the block sort of.

7 two min exercises in water therapy.

Very weak now and low functioning. Talk to doc soon.

Guessing I need to get back on some supplements I stopped when I started on the Cowden.

Wasn't sure which things I could mix with the cowden herbs.

When the stomach started bloating again, I finally figured out I needed to get back on probiotics.

Also started back on the isocort this am.

Started back on the vit c and b earlier.

But, not sure about some of the other stuff yet so waiting on doc's advice.

Back from seeing Dr. R yesterday. Since he's in the city, I did get in some slow motion walking. I was dropped out in front of the office when getting there, but walked the four blocks back to the parking garage, so hey....can that count for some walking. [Smile]

Appointment went well. Going to go the port route and right now I'm in waiting mode as he sees about insurance approval to get it in and then I guess the insurance battles can start, but atleast I should be on the right path, even if much is out of pocket.

Kam, I stay within my limits (usually) by listening to my body and my spirit.

I know when I have overdone it . . . and I generally know when I am in the process of doing too much. My body hurts and my inner voice says STOP!!

But last Friday, my trainer had me pressing too much leg weights. I told her that it hurt, and she kept urging me on. I could hardly walk on Saturday and Sunday.

This will not happen again.

On days when I do not do weights, I am trying to really push myself for 30 minutes. Then, if I have energy left, I continue walking, but at a slower, more relaxed pace.

But remember my progress has been gradual. So my stamina can adjust to the increased demand I am putting on it.

I am trying to use the turtle approach vs. the hare approach to exercise.

But most importantly, pay attention to your body. And listen to your inner voice. Your inner voice will never betray you.

Hope this helps, Kam.

Hi all - just checking in to say I haven't been up to walking the last few days [Frown]

Hopefully I'll catch up to everyone soon!

I made this about a year ago - it just seemed to capture how I'm feeling today.

Thought I'd share this and maybe provide some inspiration on our journeys [Smile]

Received this via email and passing it on.

HAPPY 4th of JULY to ALL

IN GOD WE TRUST!!!!

http://www.greatdanepromilitary.com/Battle%20Hymn/index.htm

This is an outstanding performance by grammar through high school kids.

One of the fathers recorded it, added some graphic enhancements to the recording, and posted it on the web.

The song, of course, is the 'Battle Hymn Of The Republic.

It sends shivers up your spine, it is so fantastic! Enjoy!

More from this issue of the Public Health Alert's article written by Scott...

Where do you stand on the Vitamin D debate?

Vitamin D deficiency is a significant concern. For many people, Vitamin D must be supplemented in order to support immune function, avoid osteoporosis, and control pain. I often find that Vitamin D restriction can lead to horrific outcomes.

It can be helpful to perform a D 25 and D 1,25 level and if the ratio of D 1,25 to D 25 is greater than 2, there may be an infectious origin and appropriate treatment may be necessary. I generally recommend 2000-4000 units a day if a patient has decreased bone density or 1000-2000 units a day otherwise.

Going for walks and exposing yourself to sunlight are important activities to support the body's ability to generate Vitamin D. Avoid sunburn, not sunshine.

Fri am: able to drive myself to grocery store and use electric cart at store to get groceries. it was a struggle and I would not want to have to do this each time.

But, so thankful I was able as the senior van is closed for the next 3 days and I was to sick to go as scheduled yesterday.

Fri afternoon...around the block outing in pc...storm in the distance heading this way.

Sat am: 5 min walk into forest. rest on rock. 5 min walk out. I was there but not there kind of body and brain feeling.

They also tore up one of the better, newer paved roads on the way to the trialhead. Dirt now. Not sure what is going on. I guess time will tell. Lots of dirt moving equipment in the area.

Car still trying to tell me something too. It shut off again. Just got it back from mechanics.

Guess they did not check the timing or that problem. They did fix the broken hose problem but said others were getting ready to go also. Very old.

Cathy

July 1: Back from seeing Dr. R yesterday. Since he's in the city, I did get in some slow motion walking. I was dropped out in front of the office when getting there, but walked the four blocks back to the parking garage, so hey....can that count for some walking.

Appointment went well. Going to go the port route and right now I'm in waiting mode as he sees about insurance approval to get it in and then I guess the insurance battles can start, but atleast I should be on the right path, even if much is out of pocket.

(Good Luck. Sure hope all goes well and it helps)

Trying to get back in to excersizing, diagnosed on Wednesday, my back, hips and legs were so sore I could not get out of bed, hand and feet swollen, Need advise, do you all excersize through the aches and pains or do you wait until you feel better and then get some excersize in. not sure how long I have been sick, don;t know how they tell that, just looking for support and ideas at this point, scared as hell. Love to walk, won't be walking in the woods any more.

Lianne,

I was not able to get out of the house in a power chair for quite some time.

When I started water therapy, I would throw up and could do very little.

I think the water therapy works the best for me.

It might work for you too.

I also had cycles....I would be able to walk a little for about 3 days in a row and then it would be months before I could again.

WE are all different.

Just do what you can when you can and try to listen to your body and spirit.

Thought of you today. I am in more pain than I was yesterday morning.

I think it is because I had the water therapy and also cruised home in my power chair instead of taking the senior van home.

I also helped the housekeeper load my comforters in and out of her car so she could take them to the laundry mat with the large washer's.

I have found that the more I move about the more I have pain and have difficulty moving.

So, for me..working through the pain only makes it worse and I am able to do less.

I need to find the balance and do what I can when I can.

Kam,

I'm with Lymetoo. Listen to your body. Sadly, we need to find that balance since pushing too hards, just takes us back a whole bunch of steps.

It's so frustrating! So much needs to get done but our health comes first. Good luck to you.
