I'm an avid weight trainer and find myself in the gym approx. five days a week. My training is rather rigorous compared to the average gym goer. I have found that my training has helped me feel somewhat better. I'm continuing my Doxycyclin as instructed. Is anyone else out there fitness oriented that is also battling Lyme? I would appreciate your feedback in the matter Thanks, Matt

I was very gym oriented (kickboxing) before I got sick. I think it actually helped my immune system keep this in check.
Now I have been doing vigorous yoga, but I just got my picc line and the yoga I was taking is too strenuous so I've had to back off.
I always find that getting moving makes me feel better- so long as I don't over do it. With fatigue being a big symptom for me, pushing past my limits is not good and can knock me out for a few days, but still sweating is good.
Keep up the good work.

Hey Matthew! Please join us in the Hikers/Walkers/Movers thread.
It is for people who are incorporating exercise as part of their healing.
Some people are moving quickly, and others are just getting started. But it is a great group, we welcome new people.

Hey Matt.
My husband worked out hard 5 days a week for at least 3 hours a day prior to diagnosis.
He continued this after diagnosis for about 6 months.
I should preface this with he's been both on and off meds many times.
I believe that working out has helped keep his Lyme in check.
However, due to continuing health issues (not taking meds),
He has had to back off.
I do believe it helped him. Increased oxygenation of the system.
Hugs,
Geneal

Matthew,
It would be good to see you over on the hiker/walker/mover's thread.
We have had some articles on there about how exercise helps.
Glad to hear you are able to work out at the gym.

Matthew, I've lifted weights for years now. When I was at my sickest, I had to lower the weight and listen to my body. It could not take all the stress of trying to build new muscle since it had so much disease to fight.
Now is more the time for maintenance.
I had to cut out cardio for a while, too. You want to save your energy for healing. Healing takes a LOT of energy.
Also, be sure you get enough sleep.
I'm sure if you're an avid weight lifter that you know too much training can cause adrenal fatigue all on it's own. You are even more prone to that now, so keep that in mind. If you've never heard of this problem with over-training, I'd Google it and learn about it.
I have worked out the whole time I've been ill. I was sick for a long time before diagnosis, so I was pretty much bedridden by the time I started treatment. My husband would still help me over to the gym to lift weights. I think exercise is essential to getting better (whatever level one is capable of).
