I just want to start out by thanking everyone who replied to my previous question. I was recently diagnosed with LD and just finished my 30 day doxyc. I had a tough go with herxing but I am trying to stay optimistic. I got a letter from my PC that said I should be hearing from an infectious disease specialist. Am I heading in the right direction, is this who I need to see? Should I be feeling better already because it seems like the antibiotic didn't do anything. Thanks - Jen

NO, DO NOT GO TO INFECTIOUS DR!! ***********************************
they do NOT believe in chronic lyme and treat for UNDER 3 weeks!!
read dr. burrascano's 05 lyme guidelines and print it out to read/re-read ok!
you only have a couple llmds in mass!
call your state's SUPPORT GROUP LEADERS, found on left side!! don't email; many too sick to reply.
post in SEEKING DR. ... show what nearby states you would go to ok! you've got slim pickings, but it's better than the 15-18 states like mine with NO FULL-TIME LLMDS!!!
Dr. Burrascano's most recent "Diagnostic Hints and Treatment Guidelines for Lyme and Other Tick Borne Illnesses" @ http://www.ilads.org/burrascano_0905.html suggests that you discuss with your doctor continuing treatment until you are symptom free for 2 months.

Jenifr,
Betty is absolutely right - you do NOT want to see an infectious disease specialist.
Please go to "seeking a doctor" section and ask for referrals for an LLMD, meaning Lyme Literate Medical Doctor.
They are the only doctors with the experience and the training to treat tick born infections such as Lyme disease.
How long were you sick before you took the doxy? You likely need to be on a combination of abx and thirty days is NOT going to cut it - period.
Lyme is a tricky and persistent infection and more than likely you're going to have to take an extended amount of abx to get well - under the care of an LLMD.
Keep us posted and take care.
