So things were going well for me.

8 months on oral antibiotics, I was pretty much symptom free.

Told my doc hubby and I wanted to try having a baby.

He warned me that it might be wise to try one more course of cyst-buster antibiotics different then the ones I had been on just to be certain we were ok or I could stay on what I had been on or I could try to go off but any relapse I had to go back on.

Well, after 6 months of trying and no baby my symptoms are coming back BIG TIME.

Small joint pain beginning in fingers, wrists, elbows.

Difficulty holding things, typing, coordination, buttoning shirts, opening jars, holding anything, writing, etc.

Eye floaters. Weakness, shortness of breath, fatigue.

My concentration stinks, again.

I forget where I am going, why I am going. I run a business and today I asked a client for payment when he had just paid me.

Going back to LLMD tuesday ( thank goodness I already had a recheck appt).

I am telling him to give me whatever he wants for antibiotics.

Forget having a kid right now. I couldn't take care of one if I had one with the way I am feeling.

I give so much credit to those of you with kids that manage to care for them while fighting this disease, how do you do it?

Basically, going to walk into my docs office, say, "you were right, lay whatever drugs on me that you think will kill these crappy little lyme buggers!"

Moral of the story, listen to your doctor! [bonk]

I'm relapsing. This is my second relapse. The first was after 6 months of orals. I was 12 weeks symptom free, but I really still had symptoms, I just didn't know it. Within 6 weeks, I was on the couch unable to drive, again.

I did 6 more months abx, different class. Followed up by a bang of 9 weeks iv rocephin. On the rocephin I felt better than I had in YEARS. HUGE improvement that let me know, I had never gotten symptom free on orals.

Now, I'm relapsing again. It started with shoulder pain. I was bit in the shoulder originally. Then knee pain. Then pain in the wrists and hands with occaisional stabbing pain in elbows and ankles. Neck pain. Major fatigue. By 6 PM I am DONE. Can't do anything.

I do have 3 kids. Two are dx lyme-one resolved and one in treatment. My youngest who was breastfeeding when I was dx is as of yet undx. I think you are wise to wait. Parenting is hard work and zaps your immune system because you are constantly woken up. Plus there is nothing worse that seeing your child suffer.

There was a woman who used to post on lymenet named California Lyme who had terrible lyme and coinfections. She was treated over 3 years and resolved and had a child who is lyme free, so it can be done.

Work on getting well. And know that having gone through this will make you a stronger mother and you will be ready when the time comes.

Hey Jag.....

I'm really sorry to hear that- but everyone relapses....no matter what....

howeverrrr i wanted to make sure you were aware that if u have a baby there is a huge chance the baby will be born with lyme also....

I got LD from my mother... threw childbirth...She has had it for over 20 yrs- im 22 now.... she was misdiagnosed for about 10 yrs i think before she had me.... Please if you have a baby be careful you arent relapasing or the spirochetes are not active...but it was really hard for my mom to watch me over the years be really sick bc of her.....

I'm sure the doctor will monitor you and the baby threw out the whole time...anyway good luck with the baby and i hope thiose stupid spirochetes die!!! <3

NONE...I treated for four years straight. Made sure to take flagyl [cyst buster] in high doses to challenge the bugs.

Made sure I was symptom free for at least 2 full months before going off abx.

You can do it too!!!

I'm so sorry you've had this happen and even sorrier that you've had to put off having a baby right now.....but aren't you glad you didn't get pregnant while still harboring Lyme?

Well, glad to know I am not alone, not that I thought I was:)

I am glad the baby thing didn't happen yet, as I said before, I give so much credit to those with Lyme and children.

My LLMD and I discussed the transmission to child thing.

He said he usually keeps mom to be on ab's the entire pregnancy and has had a lot of success with this sooooo, if it happens, that is what I will do.

Great, I can just imagine popping down a ceftin while battling morning sickness!

Stupid ticks!

winning--
Upon what basis are you making your claim
that we are doomed to relapse? Do you have any studies in which this is stated?

Sorry--don't mean to put you on the defensive or anything; this is just something I've been wondering about myself which Ive yet to see confirmed in the literature.
