Grocery store. In a hurry.
YIKES! I forgot to bring my shopping card inside for the big discounts. So I left the cart in the check out line while I went out quickly to find it.
Run run run.
Saw a dear friend on my way out and stopped to chat. He LOVES Perdue chicken.. as do I... and there was a good sale on them. We talked about the sale ... and also got talking about the 2,000 other chickens we've eaten in our life time.
We chatted about the rain... and about voting. We chatted about deer season. We chatted about an upcoming doctor's appointment.
We chatted about a friend in the hospital and about another one who lost their wallet.
He began telling me about the big elk hunt he went to out west... and a gift he brought me back. He talked about coming by when I would be home to drop it off....
ON NO! I forgot about the groceries and the people in line I had blocked off with my cart.
Run run run.
Thankfully they had moved my cart. Several other folks probably went through while I was outside chatting. So I waited for my turn again.
I unloaded some of the groceries on the check out line's conveyor belt.... then realized I had a coupon for free bananas (got it there when I bought salad)... but I forgot to get the bananas.
Took off to find them. They were, of course, on the other end of the store.
Run run run.
Got back to my half empty cart and remembered that I needed to get horseradish. That was what I'd actually gone in the store for to start with. I only needed two things... but ended up with a cart load... and NO horseradish.
Run run run... finding horse radish is fun!
Got ALMOST done taking everything out of my cart and putting the items on the check out counter, then realized I was thirsty... and THEN remembered that I was suppose to get tea.
Run run run.
Got back in the line.. and four people were waiting for me to get out of their way so they could make it home by Christmas.
My doctor wanted me to eat ONE brazil nut a day.
BUT.... Low and behold.... I hadn't been able to find any brazil nuts till today. Tis the season? Anyhow...
There was a bushel basket of Brazil nuts in the produce isle ... so I bagged up about a pound and 1/2 of them when I first entered the store. Good for me!
BTW- That works out to about 12 cents a day for one brazil nut... in case you wanted to know. Yes, I figured it out when I got home. 81 Brazil nuts were in my bag... at $3.99 per pound.
While putting the last of the items up to be checked through by the VERY nice clerk, who also had her fill of me by then...
I noticed the bag of Brazil nuts had slipped down between the seat and the edge of the cart. They were actually wedged in there so I couldn't get them out. I kept trying and trying.. and the cheap bag they were in started to rip open on the cart's wire cage.
Afraid I would rip the bag more and send the 81 nuts into orbit .. I gently wiggled and squiggled more and more... till I thought I'd drop from exhaustion. I could NOT get them out from the place they fell through.
Frustrated by then... anxious to hurry up and move along.... and knowing that others were waiting and HAD to be getting tired of me BIG time....
I looked up at the clerk... and the manager who had come to help bag my stuff because the line behind me was getting so long...
And I said... of course, without thinking....
"I need some help. MY NUTS ARE STUCK IN A WIRE CAGE AND I CAN'T GET THEM OUT!"
While putting the groceries in my truck.. the man who had been behind me in line.... walked past me when going to his car.

Lymies Go Shopping could be a manual all by itself.
I can't think of very many times where I am in line to check out without realizing I forgot to get an item.
The question then becomes how important is that item to me. Sometimes it's an oh, well, next trip, and other times it's like what you were describing here - the Having-To-Stand-In-Line-Multiple-Times Syndrome.
