Hi, I'm COMPLETELY new to all of this. We went camping mid OCT. My 7-yr-old son got a fever oct.31 until Nov. 17. No other symptoms except joint &muscle pain/fatigue. The infectious disease MD tested him & deduced that he got the Epstein-Barrs Virus/Mono. He also tested positive for lyme, but she says its probably a false positive. We're waiting for the Western Blot test to come in on Monday. He never had any throat symptoms (for Mono). It just doesn't seem like he had mono. I know that LD can mimic other viruses. I'm scared. What do I need to do right away, then next, then next. Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Do a search of the archives here for the words: false positive.
You will see that is said frequently and is usually wrong. And if the people who told you that are reading the western blot, they will get that wrong too.
Not a lot of good lyme docs anywhere and TX has been running them off. Try contacting a support group or groups in your state for local info. Click on support groups line in green menu box on left side of this page.
Good luck. Getting early and adequate treatment is crucial, otherwise you end up with a chronically sick kid.

Was the fever continuous, or did it come and go?
I'm gonna be saying it all over these boards, but Tick Borne Relapsing Fever, it is a Borrelia spirochete similar to the one that causes Lyme and Western Blot may show a "false positive" for Lyme.
i sent her llmd info in seeking dr. forum...

Find an LLMD(Lyme literate Medical Doctor) ASAP so he can get tested properly thru Igenex lab. The regular labs are not accurate enough.
You can find a doctor by going to Seeking A Doctor on this board.
Good Luck, Gael

That's great Betty. I missed that you sent that.
Just worried about a little guy getting help asap. As always Betty, you are right on top of it.
Thanks,
Gael

I am in Austin and my daughter was 6 when she got Lyme. I was told "there is no Lyme in TX". She did not get treated and I didn't know enough to know they were wrong. 4 years later, she is not well enough to go to school or play with friends.
You know enough to treat now so do not let them talk you out of it. If I were you, I would research here or ILADS guidelines to find out what antibiotic and dose to use. Then ask the ID doctor for that, "just in case it isn't a false positive". Remind her about all of the serious problems that can result from untreated Lyme. Also ask for a copy of the Lyme test. If she won't give you abx, then I would try some other doctors or even one of the nurse practitioners in HEB.
My LLMD in LA treats kids and doesn't have a long wait to get in. I am not sure if he treats kids as young as yours, though. If you don't have his number, PM me and I will send it to you.

I'm really scared. I have to talk with the Infectious Disease MD office on Monday and I really need to say the right things to get the RIGHT ACTIONS IN MOTION. I feel like I'm racing against the clock.
1.What if the antibiotics I request (due to my lack of knowledge and my son's age) cause the LD to become resistant? 2. I tried the LLMD in Texas and she doesn't really do anything, but send them to a specialist. I NEED A LLMD that will ACT IMMIDIATELY!!! I'm broke, but willing to travel FAST to get a diagnosis QUICK and get a good plan in action. 3. I'm going to start researching "false positives" right now AND antibiotics to use. I'm vague on how to figure out what anitbiotics to choose. I wish I had a LLMD to help me. 4. What should I be pushing in his DIET? 5. What do you guys think about Chinese Medicine (accupuncture and herbs)?
