Ok so you all might think I'm off my nut and just maybe I am. My mom has had a difficult time most of her life with visions and premonitions. she's 71 and seems to be at the end of her rope.
Every once in awhile I get on Yahoo Answers and ask a question. I should know better by now but I have hope no freaks will answer.
anyways here's what I posted,
--Is there a field in psychology that helps people cope with psychic abilities? My mother has had difficulty in this area and I really would like to get her some help. Visions and ESP are driving her off the deep end. Please no jokes, I'm looking for serious responses only.
My family has a long history of certain abilities and I do believe in the unseen. Just because science can't prove it, does not mean it doesn't exsist.
This is not a question of wheather or not these abilities exsist. And yes, my mother is seeing a reg. psycologist.--
And Here's a response I got,
--"Yes. It is the "field" of psycho-therapy, in which the person who believes he/she has psychic powers seeks treatment for delusional thinking.
There is no such thing as psychic ability, ESP, teleportation, telepathy, or all the rest of that stuff. Therefore, a person who believes such mistaken thinking has a personality disorder that can use the treatment of a good psychologist or psychiatrist."--
This guy has 'Dr.' in his screen name.
Ok,so while I was reading the response I got I flashed on Cronic Lyme Disease. This is the same kind of response patients get when seeking help for cronic Lyme.
What I'm getting from this line of thinking, that if it can't be proven with science then it doesn't exsist, maybe they don't believe in God either?
LOL lost my train of thought while typing and can't find it. I hope you get the gist of what I was trying to say.

I feel compelled to reply because of the irony in my journey. 2.5 years before dx i knew it was lyme but no test could prove it(10 times neg) so it must be in my head.
3 hours at shrink he says i'm bipolar which of course there is no test for(no test yet i'm positive). Of course i was vulnerable and took the meds. Thankfully since i was dx 2 months i have begun to taper off and tomorrow is my last day.(yeh it messed up my thyroid)
Point being and i know you know this everyone you meet has a motivation ..i've learned this in business. That motivation will factor into their answer as will their personal biography. be your own advocate(all Lymie's know this of course)
Happy Thanksgiving.

Hi Proudmom,
Here goes:
Many people are extremely sensitive to information in their environment. When they are not taught how to manage it, and are told they are nuts, it's pretty crazy-making. Then they know what they see and feel, but can't trust their own senses.
I look at it like this: I've heard that there is an island somewhere out there where all the native inhabitants are colorblind. You can talk to them about color, but they don't have that sense. They won't know what you are seeing in that red flower, and they might just pat you on the head if you get excited about it.
Some people see light auras, feel other's emotions, and are tuned into other sources of info more than most of the rest of us. Just as clearly as you can see that the sky is blue they can see some of these other things.
It helps for empaths to understand that even when they can feel others' emotions, they rarely can read thoughts behind them.
And in the same vein, just because somebody tells you a lyme test is negative, it doesn't mean you don't have a spirochete or two, and won't respond to treatment.
It seems that many people with OCD who have an obsessive need for cleanliness and hand washing recover after lyme treatment. Something in them seems to know.
There's an old saying - "What you can't see can't hurt you." That's close-minded denial.
Then again, there is a diagnosis, often Lyme related, called Bipolar Disorder. When people are on a manic high, they often falsely think they know all things, are all-powerful, and they are going to save the world. This is intensified with people who are already intuitively gifted.
Bipolar disorder responds to treatment with a salt called Lithium. By the way this salt gets used up in the body when we have a genetic predisposition not to be able to detox certain biological toxins. There's a whole thesis in that conversation.
I think there is a field called Transpersonal Psychotherapy where some of this psychic phenomenon is taken into account.
