Hi,

My children are 4 and 7 years old. Both are being treated for CNS LD and co-infections. I would like to keep them safe this Spring and Summer as they play outside. Please give me your advice on the best tick repellents for children. I've read about DEET, Lemon Eucalyptus , Picaridin, Geranium/Soybean oil, and Permethrin. Would like to know what you feel works best at keeping the ticks away.

Thanks.

My now famous lyme doc told me to use Avon Skin So Soft, and to take a shower when you come in the house. This way, you will quickly see any ticks that are on you.

I am also wondering about this. Taking a shower every time we come in from outside seems unrealistic as we are usually in and out of the house all day. Although we are all scared now that we have Lyme. The way I am feeling I may not let my daughter go outside unless she is wrapped in plastic wrap and wearing hip length rubber boots with me walking in front of her spraying pesticide as we go!! I have to rake and work in the garden this week and I am petrified!!

check this out; i know it has the % shown for kids and adults in it...

Betty G's LYME/TICK BROCHURE with 2 LDA brochures combined together plus other stuff from Betty including:

lyme books, support groups, lyme/co-infection illnesses, symptoms, diagnosis, treatments, hunting/gardening ...
how to dress; how to remove ticks, etc.
prints out to 9 pages 2 columns per page!

i also used on page 10 the front/back side of TICK CARD that lda has!! very helpful!

After trying all the rest.. and I am THE tick magnet...

I will only buy Avon .. but NOT the Skin-So-Soft...

The Bug Guard PLUS.. UNSCENTED.

The guys wear it too, even when hunting... and ONLY because it is unscented.

Great for mosquitoes, ticks and chiggers. Possibly other things too.. but those are my concerns.

See the 2nd picture from the left.. The green spray can.

I like the areosol can because the product is light mist and not slimy.

Permethrin is the best. It kills ticks. YOu spray it on clothes not skin.

Want to add that Bite Blocker appears to be a newly developed tick repellent from wild tomato plants, and safe for kids.

The Avon bug repellants are very safe for children, and I have been told that because they are DEET free, in the event they fall asleep, you don't have to worry about washing it off.

Tincup and others who use Avon Bug Guard,

I looked that product up and it doesn't say anything about protecting against ticks?
