Ann,

Wonderful Idea! I've seen quite a few dead deer on the roads here, can we just truck all the roadkill to them too?

That would send a strong message to them! They stink!!! Bad!!!

Get him outta there.

IF you cant reach him,,,get something shaped like a shepards hook. heavy wire, metal rod. like a firemans hook. Boat gaff hook

OR have your young great looking cabanna boy do it for you!!!

Do you have 'friendly' neighbors there??

Pout on somebodies sleeve,,,find a kind soul!!

take a shovel and dig a little more space??

Call an exterminator,,dont say the DEAD word till he gets there

Hope something in this list works!!--just don--doesnt!!!

TKO Orange can help with odor control in general.

I already use it as a cleaner AND bug repellent against ticks.

TC.....I knew it was your post without even looking. [Smile]

I know what you are talking about.

When we moved back after Katrina, my dogs kept rolling

In something that smelled "dead".

It took me 4 days to track down the "gooey" remains of a possum.

I gagged the whole way carrying him out of the 6 acre yard on a shovel.

You have to get him out.

It's a health issue.

I agree with Don.

Good luck and get some vick's vapor rub to put under your nose till then.

Hugs,

Geneal

Hey Just Don..

This post is for you. See my reply about what made me happy today.

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/1/79018?

[Big Grin]

Maddog... you are right. I forgot.... so thanks for the reminder.

That is what I use to do with a friend here (and a GIRL no less-HA!).

Yes, I would stop for road kills. I then put them in a sandy sun lighted spot..as close to the fire ant and other ant hills as possible.... and let them get down to the bones naturally.

Snakes, possums, birds, raccoons... everything you can imagine.

And WHY did I do that?

Because she was my friend and she asked me to.

I take friendship seriously.

I like to think it was for that reason.

Otherwise I am a complete LUNA TICK!!!

Actually we were donating the bones and remains to parks and environmental centers for show and tell type programs and displays.

And playing with the road kills was almost as fun as going out with her on a Saturday night... and a lot cheaper.

[lol]

And Lakes.. and Ocean... hey that is a nice combination ...

I love your ideas! IDSA headquarters, eh? HA!

[Big Grin]

Hey Big K...

Why not? It could work!

Hey Robin 3539757475..

Good idea! I tried the orange Pinesol on the floors.. which helped a little... and some odor remover stuff.. but now it smells like rotten cabbage and rotten oranges in here.

Hey G..

HA! Knew it was me, didn't you? HA!

And that is my saving grace. I don't have a dog to roll in it. Whew! That is a good reason to not think of getting one.. at least not now.

I remember those days all too well. YULK!

BTW- This was NICE dinner conversation.

I didn't actually gag on my salad.. but almost.

I hate to be the bearer of even grosser and more distressing news, but please be careful around and with that armadillo.

You likely already know this, but for those that may not be aware, armadillos are known to carry the bacteria that causes leprosy. No kidding. Also rabies, salmonella, tapeworm, etc.

I'll hazard a guess that you weren't planning to eat the armadillo, but I would still be extra careful with handling it.

Oh, and geeeee-rooooossseeee!

Just when we were putting our condo on the market in Chicago, a couple of Chicago rats (read: small dogs) decided to crawl into the ductwork and die there. I feel your pain. The stench is one thing - the burning eyes and nose? Phew!

Good luck!

Oh nenet.. I got all excited seeing Appleseed.. sorry I forgot...

You said.. "I'll hazard a guess that you weren't planning to eat the armadillo..."

Funny one you are!

[lol]

But if you've seen some of my other posts... I realize there could be some doubt! HA!

And Just Don..

I am not able to crawl underneath. It is shut up tight except for a small hole for the critters to get in and out. Foundation blocks cemented in.

And IF I could get under there.. not sure I would.

Not so much the dead animal under there that creeps me out.. although I do have my druthers about it...

But it is the live ones I am not thrilled with coming face to face with!

I know there are at least 3 snakes... spiders galore... and who knows what else under there. PLUS it is pitch dark!

So I don't think so!

Plus... it is getting better FINALLY!!!!

Thank goodness. Not totally gone.. but better.

Hey Tincup,

I will share my armadillo story with you-

We lived in a cabin in Umatilla, FL-you probably know where this is-near the Villages.

Well one night I heard a bad scratching noise down below the house that was coming up through the vents.

Jake did not believe me, he is a heavy sleeper, and this went on for a week which drove my Jack Russell crazy-

Well one morning I got up and turned on the heat and there was no heat-the house never got warm-

I went underneath the house and all of the ductwork was destroyed-ripped apart! No wonder we weren't getting any heat and I no sleep!

He finallly decided to listen to me!

After alot of hunting in the middle of the night, We were obsessed let me tell you, we blew him away with a shotgun right under our house.

We spotted him from the side, aimed and shot.

He apparently crawled in the "hole" that he had made under the house and died because we never heard anything else.

He cost us alot of money that winter-one little armadillo-

BUT I HAVE TO SAY NOTHING LIKE A TICK CAN COST YOU!

Oh MY!

That is a nightmare! So much trouble for you all.

I was bent on getting them out too.. would close off holes... bang around to try to scare them off... etc.

But they kept coming back.

If I'd had known his time was up... I could have saved him the trouble.

And you are right. Old heat vents under there that I don't use- no heat now- but once I covered up the vents in here it was MUCH more tolerable.

So I think he de-vented me too.

Now.. did I tell you about the ants? UGGGGG!!!!

They killed a 200 year old old tree... almost overnight.

One day it was a happy tree.. the next day dead as a doornail.

Spent my last of my savings having to have the tree removed last year.

It broke my heart and cost me $800.00

BUT.. hurricane season was coming and it hung over my head...

So no choice.

I guess that is why they call these "things" we are dealing with...

Pests.
