I have heard from two people now that vets are warning people about problems with Frontline. Is has been said that people are finding ticks on their dogs... Is K9 Advntix any better? Anyone ever hear of Revolution for dogs?

I noticed the last couple years my dogs have brought ticks in the house.

I asked my vet about it,after calling the company. and getting no answers.

My vet said they changed the formula, and he refuses to sell it anymore.

He also said a company was going to start selling flea and tick control in pill form this year.

Also said to spray 20 feet around the house. I use the Advantix now.

I find ticks on my dogs all the time with advantix.

Some dead, some still alive, but all attached prior to meeting their end.

The new pill that is out is only for flea control.

I bought two yesterday.

I think the problem with advantix and frontline

Is that after a while the fleas build up immunity to them.

I could put advantix on and within 10 days my dogs are

Crawling with fleas. Very expensive when you have 7 dogs. Five are over 70lbs.

I used to use Revolution which I really liked.

That was when I only had two dogs.

I am not sure if it covers ticks though.

Hugs,

Geneal

My vet recommended using Frontline plus a Proventic collar. Bought the collars for my 2 goldens but have not used them yet because it says on box not to use with dogs who mouth each other on the neck - which they do all the time when they play together. Not sure if I want to deal with taking the collars off and on all the time when they want to play.

Well, now I am not sure what to do. I checked out the Revolution website and it says that it covers ticks. We have three dachshunds. I have not had a problem with findng ticks yet. We are going to spray our property and the woods behind this season.

I want to raise the TKO Orange solution again. It's a bug repellent and killer. I've been told it can be lightly misted on cats and dogs. One woman rubs it on her dog's fur.

I'm thinking maybe a combo of another tick repellent plus TKO Orange might do the job, and I'm wondering whether any here would like to try it and report back.

It can also be sprayed in the home and in the yard. It's biodegradable so needs to be applied frequently.

I put a couple drops in a spray bottle, fill up with water, and spray on my clothing.

It's ok to use as long as not allergic to citrus.

www.TKOOrange.com. Also sold as Orange Guard in stores.

Dear Everyone,
Our Yorkie was on Hartz, and he ended up with worms. Do not use that! Unfortunately, the ones that work are neurologically toxic. Frontline may have been what we were using right after that. He was only 1.5 years-old, and we believe it may be what caused his seizures.

Someone told me their mother had the same experience with her dog, and she took her dog to a naturopathic vet. What happened was, the chemicals become stuck in the liver. Since that is the organ that has to filter out toxins, it makes perfect sense. We give our dog Interceptor now. Our major concern is how to stop the seizures, and as a Celiac, I do suspect that gluten has something to do with it. Lyme is another concern.

Sincerely,
Jin

Frontline does not repel ticks or fleas. From the FRONTLINE website:

1. How quickly do FRONTLINE Brand Products kill parasites?

Our research data shows FRONTLINE Brand Products will kill fleas within 18 hours of contact with your treated pet. Ticks will die within 48 hours of contact with your treated pet.

3. Do fleas and ticks have to bite my pet for FRONTLINE Brand Products to work?

Fleas and ticks do not have to bite your pet for FRONTLINE Brand Products to work. FRONTLINE Brand Products kill fleas and ticks if they simply come into contact with your pet's hair coat. The fleas will die within 18 hours of contact with your treated pet, and ticks will die within 48 hours.

As for REVOLUTION, here are the facts on that:

Revolution is effective in controlling tick infestations due to the American dog tick (Dermacentor variabilis).

And Advantix:
Prevent ticks from attaching.

K9 Advantix offers proven protection against ticks. It repels and kills ticks before they can attach. With K9 Advantix, ticks are repelled and killed before they can bite, reducing the potential risk of a tick-transmitted disease.

Summary:
-FRONTLINE does not repel and ticks take up to 48 hrs to die once they get on your pet

-REVOLUTION only works on the american dog tick and does not repel either

-ADVANTIX repels and kills all ticks. DO NOT USE IN CAT DOG HOUSEHOLDS!!!!! Advantix has a chemical in it that can kill cats if they come in contact with a treated dog.

I use an all natural spray for my dogs in addition to frontline and I judiciously comb them to look for ticks.

Here is my problem with all these products - ticks are not hanging out on shrubbery/grass thinking they won't hop on a dog because it has been treated with this product or that product.

Regardless of which product you use none of them are instant tick killers. A dog can carry the tick into your house and it can fall off and potentially be crawling around your house and get onto you before it is killed on the dog.

Last fall when I checked one of my dogs when he came back inside he had 8 ticks crawling in his fur - he had not been outside for long.

I totally agree that it really helps to brush your dogs every time they come inside regardless of the products you use. My 2 love it and push each other out of the way to get brushed first!

I use advantix on sir buttons he actually had a tick attach to his ear while on it but I have to say it was only about 2 or 3 days after applying it he hasnt had a tick sofar 7 months and it has sofar stopped the flea problem but it took about 2 weeks for fleas to disappear totally that is good compared to me picking anywhere from 6 8 10 and even 18 off his belly for a couple of weeks every night before bedtime that sucked I sprayed the house down with pemethrin based spray for house and vacummed everyday.

I was going to switch to frontline just to mix it up some.
I know jamescase20 worked with that a lot he said it evn killed the spirochetes and cyst forms but not the intracellular .
