Oh, I'd forgotten that "ick" factor. Good thing it's is a special container, though, and not likely to get mixed up with apple juice, eh?

I just kept that container in a paper bag and washed the container meticulously after each new deposit was added.

The point is that they need to see, over a day's time, what comes out in terms of metals. When you mix it all together and take out a sample, then that sample is a better representation than had it been just a one time shot.

--

And, hey, I had to do a 24-hour stool collection a couple of times. Truly, the brown paper bag was a great help when opening up my fridge.

I also had to get on a city bus with that - the first time no one bother to tell me that if I froze it, it would not smell.

THAT was a day I'll soon not forget. The faces of those on the bus were quite perplexed. I just looked around, too, opened the window and pretended that my backpack was just carrying a picnic. I'm glad I dressed fairly nice that day because I was sure getting some looks!

[Smile] Thanks Keebler! That makes me feel better! Thanks for the explanation too, I understand more the point now!

I hope it wasn't a hot day on that city bus! [Smile]

Thanks Again! You're always so helpful around here and i can't tell you how I appreciate it!

I have done a 24-hour urine test and my results where normal. The problem with the standard 24-hour heavy metal test is that it is unchallenged meaning you do not take anything to excrete the metals from your tissues where they lie so almost everyone will have a normal test even if they have heavy metals.

Just yesterday I had heavy metal chelation with DMPS and EDTA-CA agent and a 6-hour urine challenge right after, it will be interesting to see what the results are going to be.

So if it comes back normal, should i request a challenged 24hr urine?

Oh I hear ya too Erika! I had to do one for a hormone testing panel, and to top it off, I also had to do the 24-hr stool one at the same time.

AND? Lemme tell ya that I was so bad with Neuro-Lyme at the time, and so sick and fatigued, I got majorly confused by the instructions and all the cups and measures and whatnot, so bad that ....my poor husband had to help me with it all!!!

You know you got a good one when...

(FYI, we kept a cooler with ice stocked in it in the upstairs bathroom, instead of storing in the fridge. It worked out really well also because I couldn't make it up and down the stairs)

OH yeah. Been there! That was pretty gross! [Eek!]

HEY!! My test didn't require you to refrigerate until the very end...before it's shipped. ... or maybe my memory isn't good!! I remember keeping the big red jug next to the toilet.

When I had to take a 24 hour urine test, my doctor had suggested we get a cheap styrofoam cooler and fill it with ice.

Put it in the bathroom and then it is more convenient and will keep it cool instead of needing to keep putting it in the refrig.

Just a though.

I'm sorry, this is totally off topic, but relevant. The other day, I walked past a Port-O-San, and there was a gallon jug of yellow liquid sitting outside.

I just did a heavy metals test, I had to collect urine for six hours but had to take 20 Chemet/DMSA tablets first.

Man, did that make me sick for a good three days!

DeafFromLyme,

Yes, when I did my metals tests for Doctors Data I also took a DMSA tablet early that morning so that it would be a challenge.

DMSA was the easiest thing I ever took, much easier on me than EDTA suppositories.

My tests did come back showing mercury and other metals a bit high. However, no urine test can be the true measure, it is just a clue.

Betty, I have had to do the 3 seprate BM collections for my daughter NUMEROUS timnes she had C.Diff for a very long time due abx overuse, so I know how gross that can be!!! [Smile]

Quick update on a bit of a serious note... I went to the lab today and dropped of my "deposits". She took the jug out of the bag and said "did you do this for 24 hours?" I said yes of course. She said that the amount was much too low (It was MAYBE a quater full).

She said "You realize this is a problem don't you?"

At the time, no I didn't. I didn't know how much I was supposed to pee in a day. Never really thought about it before. She told me some people fill 2 jugs!

I drink enough I think.... Why would my output be so low? I'm a little worried!

Yeah, that's pretty low! I hope it's just that you didn't drink enough.

I usually fill one completely and have had more output than that before.
