Sorry I haven't been giving any last updates on my pregnancy....I did have another ultrasound last week that confirmed the pregnancy was not viable.
So I had my D&C today because we really needed to get it done to prevent infection, since I was past 12 weeks and had miscarried awhile ago.
I will just copy and paste what I put on Lyme Friends....I went into detail some with the drugs because on Lyme Friends I was asking people about their experiences with anesthesia, since that was my main concern going in.
I hope it's okay if I just re-paste this....it is easier than typing everything out again, and less emotionally draining.
I just want to say thanks to everyone on Lymenet that have been really supportive of me through this whole process. And thank you for your prayers for myself and my family.
So here is the update:
Hi everyone!
I am back from my surgery. I actually got back earlier but I wanted to just hang out with my husband and "process" things some emotionally before I got online.
Everything went really well. I spoke with the anesthesiologist before the surgery, and told him I wanted to do the "spinal" (which is like an epidural) with IV sedation (Versed). He said, "okay, but honestly, that is not what I would choose in your situation."
Since I had done my homework and looked up the meds he had mentioned before as part of the general anethesia, and saw that they seemed to be the preferred ones for CFIDS (which of course I have Lyme, but a CFIDS article was the one that addressed most of "our" Lyme issues in relation to anesthesia)....I agreed to it. Also, he told me that he might have to end up giving me more medicine for the spinal than for general, since I would only be under general for 30 min or so.
When I woke up from it all, I was VERY relieved to realize that I didn't have the feeling of a huge burden over my cognition or my physical body. By contrast, after I got a vaccine two years ago, I felt "not right" and knew what had just happened was very bad. But, I didn't get that feeling when I woke up, so I was greatly relieved.
I do realize I was lucky to have seemed to come out of this no worse for the wear. I definitely feel lucky......considering that some of us do have problems.
I was very insistent that I wanted no steroids (to wake me up, etc). I asked for a copy of what I received during all of this. I think he was planning on using Propofol, but I guess the actual surgery only lasted 2 minutes and they didn't need it. I received Sevoflurane (which is a gas similar to Isoflurane....these are not neuro-toxic like the older ones), nitrous oxide (that is N2O, right?), Reglan, and Zofran. Also Methergine. I don't know what these are...haven't looked them up yet.
The only problems I noticed was that when I was coming out of the anesthesia, my joints seemed a little inflamed because they were popping more (jaw and fingers), and I noticed increased floaters in the eyes, which I normally get when something (don't know what) flares. Also, my teeth were a little chattery, which sometimes happens when I'm sicker (don't know if that is tick related or dysautonomia). But that faded in the first 20 min.
I'm not sure if I got an IV antibiotic or not. It isn't on my sheet, so they might have not done it because I was on Ceftin and Biaxin already and had taken them 9 hours before the surgery.
Well, anyways.....I wanted to give all the technical info in case anyone wants to know for future reference on surgery and Lyme/co's. Bottom line is that I am doing pretty well.......so thanks for all the support!!!!!!!
Not sure if I will be on chat or not tonight, if I'm tired I won't fight it.....but my husband is here so I am in good hands and not alone tonight (as some of you know, sometimes he is out of town).

Glad to hear it went well.
Did you drink your carrot juice afterward with ginger?
Wonder if the meds causes nausea as they can, or if you took the ginger capsules to keep that at bay.

Hoosier-glad to hear from you. And I'm glad everything went so well.
Please take it easy emotionally. A loss like this is very difficult.
I will pray for you and I hope you find strength in knowing there is a baby waiting for you and the time will come. We just have to remember, it is not in "our" time.

thanks for your detailed update; so glad the anesthetics worked well for you & you felt good vs. bad after coming out of it.
i copy/paste ... do not ever feel guilty about it !! saves us all time/energy and BRAIN power which we are all so limited on.
