I've been treated with ceftin for six months. Every month I have had a predictable 2 week herx. Miserable, but I could deal with it because I could chart its ups and down on my calenday. I knew it would end.
This current herx is 3 weeks old. It is the worst yet. I thought I was getting better...well, I'm not in bed all day, so it is a bit better......but I continue to be tired, weird achy muscles that almost want to tense up and I'm either sweating hot (like now) or cold and I can't seem to get warm.
I feel like I'm losing hope. I feel a hundred times worse than I ever did before I was on antibiotics. I don't want to stop treatment, but I'm so darn miserable.
I haven't called my doctor because the hopeless part of me says there isn't anything he can do for me. Maybe he could just euthanize me.
We just got hit by one of our credit cards...had to make an extra payment. My husband says we have no money for two weeks until he gets paid.
I would eat beans happily, if I weren't diabetic. I have to eat low carb. My husband loves beans, fortunately.
Is this how I'm going to be?
I know I'm not a newbie, but I sure feel like I know nothing about this disease.

Hi Barb,
I'm sorry that you are so miserable. I can't help you out, never had a herx that long, but I'm sure others here can give you some insight.
Just wondering about the bean comment? Are you being treated for your diabetes or are you controlling it with diet?
Beans are very good because they have such a high fiber content, it doesn't cause a sugar rush and resultant extreme need for insulin.
My husband is a type one diabetic (since he was 10, he is 29 years old now) and whenever we eat beans (we are vegetarain and I love beans!), he ends up needing to eat again much sooner because the supposed carbs in the beans do not balance out the insulin creating a carb deficit.
If you have tried beans and they don't work for you, then I understand, just wanting to make sure you didn't hear not to eat beans from hearsay, my husband's new Endocrinologist was pretty happy when he told her he was a vegetarian and pretty impressed that he doesn't have any complications from diabetes in nearly 20 years and never been hospitalized (besides the inital diagnoses years ago).
Hope you start feeling better soon! I need to go check on my black bean soup...I started it a little while ago..I'm a bean fanatic =)

I'm controlling my diabetes with metformin and diet/exercise.
I can eat very, very limited quantities of beans and do so occasionally. The beans do raise my blood glucose. I get a lot of my fiber from the home made (flax, almond meal, wheat gluten, egg, splenda, cinnamon) muffins I eat almost daily.
I invented a baking mix and use that to make my muffins, brownies, cookies, cakes and pancakes. It is low carb and tastes really good.
I'm getting partial relief from taking my max dose of neurontin. Maybe the Kavakava I took with it as an experiment is helping. I'm just happy the edge is taken off. It's the first time today I haven't felt completely miserable. I'm relaxing here in my cool, dark room and that seems to help too.
Thanks for the positive thoughts.

Thanks. After I took my second max dose of neurontin (2x600mg) and waited..I finally felt pretty much complete relief. I almost didn't want to go to sleep it was so nice not feeling miserable. So, I stayed up and watched a german movie, subtitled in english, "The Killer Condom!" It was pretty funny.
I'll look at the suggestions. I was too out of it yesterday to really do much.
Fortunately, I do crafts and a guy wants to pay me for something even though it isn't finished....might be enough for some better quality food and maybe a cheap supplement. I don't do crafts for profit, but once in a while someone admires something I've done and wants me to do one for them. Kind of nice.

I feel good today. I slept in until a bit past 10am. I went on a walk for the second time in three weeks.
I've been taking kavakava, cod liver oil, multivitamin/mineral, and a herbal muscle relaxing formula. I don't know if it is the timing or the addition of the supplements. I won't argue the point.
I feel human today for the first time in three weeks.

HI Barb, I was just reading through and caught wind of your baking mix.
I don't know if I am hungry or what but the sound of those baked goods is scrumptious.
Have you thought of starting your own in home bakery for these items? If I lived closer I would happily buy them from you. Wendi

Too much work. And too much cat hair at home...ha ha ha.
I will happily give you the links to the baking mix and recipes. Once you mix all the dry ingredients together, it takes but a couple of minutes to whip up an individual sized muffin, brownie or pancake. I hope the links work.
recipes for pancakes, muffins, brownies, cakes, waffles, cookies.......yummers....even your family will like these

Now my husband is in the hospital. Emergency surgery for a bowel obstruction. All went well, but our lives will be different for several weeks. Can't wait for the bills..... The stress of the whole situation is bad enough. I'm hanging in there......

The fatigue/ache of the lyme herx thing got me again today the day my inlaws came over to spend the week. I'm absolutely done for. Too tired to post all the details of life.
We do have insurance....but this isn't a preferred hospital, so we'll have to jump through some hoops to avoid paying thousands in copays. Thank god, my parents are alive and willing to give us whatever money we need.
I just have to get myself together enough to start paying bills. That is something I haven't done in ten years....I don't know the first thing about which bill should be paid now and how he budgets our money.
I think it is time for my nightly peanut butter with sugar free chocolate fudge syrup......comfort food.

barb,
set your monthly utility bills on AUTOMATIC PAY FROM CHECKING ACCOUNT...
money comes out on specified day; you just need to worry about keeping enough money in checkbook to COVER them!
it's a lifesaver for me! i put quarterly taxes, car/home insurance on CALENDAR when they are due and vehicle license plates, etc.

Well, my husband walked me through doing online banking. He had me pay the two "important" bills. He says he will be home to deal with the rest of the financial stuff. OK! Fine by me. I would like to be kept more in the loop, just in case something happens.....again.
I went to my lyme doc today. He added flagyl tothe ceftin I've been taking. To help me sleep and to help with the muscle ache/tension he gave me flexeril. I can tell I'm pretty relaxed, but we'll just have to se what happens when I try to sleep.
My inlaws are helpful and have actually lowered my stress level by being around. They help out around the house and kept my husband company all morning while I was at the doctor.
Things are looking up. They took all but one of the things he was hooked up to out. Only one iv was left. He was given jello, tea and water afterwards. For dinner, he was given chicken, broccoli, rice and mashed potatoes. We'll see if that stimulates his intestines to produce anything. I think when he does, they will let him go home.
We'll just have to see what tomorrow brings.

HE IS HOME! Yay and oh no at the same time. He was sent home with no prescription for pain medication. The doctor's office was at lunch, so he had to wait an hour and a half to call them. He called and the doctor wasn't in. The office said they would call him back. My husband is wondering why I'm so irritated! Why? Because he should have been sent home with a written prescription for pain meds. I know that because of where we live, it will be a minimum of two hours after the doctor calls in the prescription until I am able to get it to my husband. It is a ten mile drive each way to the market and I was planning on buying some food for the husband to eat as well. His shot of morpheine is going to be well worn off by that time. We're talking probably five to six hours after his last shot, minimum before he even sees the pain med's. Then, he is going to have to take them and wait for it to take effect.....another 30 minutes or longer. I don't want him to be in pain...and I know he is going to be. Oh well. I just have to pull back and let him handle it. That is why I am in the other side of the house, as far away from him as humanly possible.
