I did a search on here for information about our lyme kids and problems with school. I did find a lot of good info. But I didn't really see much about on line schools.

Has anyone used these & what are your thoughts?

My youngest is still not well enough to go to school. He is starting 5th grade. His insomnia is an issue too.

We tried the tutor from school last year. It didn't work really well for us, for many reasons that I can tell if anyone wants to know.

I can't do the homeschooling with myself being the teacher. Too many cognitive issues myself to commit to that right now.

My son is gifted but he has troubles with memory, concentration, organization and I am sure there are more.

He is about to entire Middle School. They do changing of classes, schedules, lockers, etc. I think that would be too much for him. Plus they start at 7:40am and he sometimes can't sleep until 4am!

So I was looking at this on line schools. The ones that are more flexible with the schedules. Here are a few that I thought might be good. Anyone heard of them?

The 2nd one might be Ohio only. The 1st one has an Ohio website but runs off of the k12 program.

Or does anyone recommend a different one?

Any advice would be helpful! I need to figure out something bc I just know that he won't be able to make it.

Then I need to work on a 504 plan for my older lyme son that is about to start High School. I pray he can make it through! He is going into honors classes & doesn't want to mess up his chance at scholarships for college.

It's very sad that these kids have to be so sick. They are so smart & this might ruin their future. I just want to do what's best & not make a mistake.

Thanks again!

It is all so sad, I agree. I know so many families with sick kids.

I am not on lymenet much anymore, but I wanted to comment that a friend who lives in PA used her state's cyber-school for her son and it worked really well for the family.

When we attended his high school graduation from the cyber school, it was evident that this was a terrific program for kids who have health issues.

I homeschooled my daughter last year (6th grade) and used a state online school for one of her subjects. My son took a summer class for honors placement this summer at the same school.

Both worked for us and I thought that it may have even exceeded the demands of the actual classroom.

I did learn that some on line schools are accredited and some are not. That might be something to look into if you want/need the public school district to recognize any credits earned.

My kids took online classes through the school district. The classes were not very good. They have/had a homebound teacher. They could have taken online classes from another school district or the state.

She knows all the subjects, current events, and the kids really like her. This is the 8th year she has been coming to our house.

Jake graduated from HS a few years ago. Jordan is a senior. He plans to go to school for 1 class and he will have the homebound teacher for math.

Amy,

Ask "our" Carol or Valerie,
They have a ton of info on
all that too.

I know how it is to have kids
that are sick [Frown]

My daughter took a few courses at Keystone for high school. Our school district paid for them. They worked out well and she was able to work at her own pace.
