My husband was just diagnosed. He is taking abx and we hope he will become and stay symptom free. Tick bites are something I have always worried about at a normal worry level (whatever that means!) but now that my husband has it it is all I can think about when I see children playing in woods or in the backyard. I don't want this to be the first thing I think about when I watch children enjoy this right-of-passage (including my own as they get older). Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I keep my children out of the woods now.

They both have congenital Lyme, but there is no point

In tempting fate any further (in my very humble opinion).

I don't worry about my yard.

I do tick checks nightly.

We keep the yard treated and grass cut short.

All you can do is your best.

hugs,

Geneal

Sorry to say . .. I don't think you can. We cut grass, have guinea hens, spray with beneficial nematodes, tick check and still, it's a struggle.

It's about weighing choices. Is camping the right activity for a lyme damaged family? Will it be relaxing, probably not.

Try doing a bath every night so you see them naked and can tick check easily

I struggle right there with you.

I have Lyme and Ehrlichia, and knowing what hell I went through to get diagnosed and at least on the road to wellness, I am terrified every time my kids go outside.

Aside form being super vigilant, I don't know what else to do besides locking them inside, which what kind of life is that?

Sounds like a premise for a horror movie...

No advice here.... My now 7 yr old, his birthday is today, was infected when he was 4. He is just in treatment now with Dr. J.

Although I admit to worrying about it, (giving him his daily meds are a constant reminder), I still let him be a little boy. We still have dogs (we treat them for ticks,) he plays in the yard, we love to go camping.

I'm vigilant about watching for symptoms, I'll never allow him to be misdiagnosed again....

How old are your kids?

I educate my kids about how to be safe outside now. They are a little older so they listen pretty well. I say it over and over so they don't have a choice. LOL

But I do worry about all that too. It isn't the same anymore. Camping..he is in cub scouts so I have to let him go. But his dad goes with him and they have all kinds of bug sprays and I make him do tick checks and then call me. I give special instructions on how to be safe. I get very upset if hubby doesn't listen. LOL
